The fashion industry claims it is being unfairly pillaged for the ‘size 0’ phenomenon. But self regulation has done little to weed out emaciated models. “They have to understand that being thin is our job”, states one size 0 model. But following the death of anorexic model, Ana Carolina Reston, designers are coming under pressure not to use skinny models. Spain banned ultra-thin models from Madrid Fashion Week after complaints they encouraged anorexia. “We didn’t want teenagers to think excessive slimness is a model of beauty”, explains organizer Cuca Solana. But other fashion capitals refuse to follow Spain’s lead. “The whole size 0 thing has come from Hollywood not the catwalks”, complains Hilary Riva, Chief Executive of London Fashion Week. “It’s too simplistic to blame fashion.” SBS Australia - Ref.3432 Journeyman Pictures is your independent source for the world's most powerful films, exploring the burning issues of today. In 2013 Israel became the first country in the world to pass legislation banning 'underweight' models. Mere weeks before the law passed, the first Tel Aviv fashion week in 30 years featured typically waifish high-fashion models. Charlet caught a show by Italian giant Moschino just in time for the first rockets to rain down on Tel aviv from Gaza in over 20 years... Donatella and daughter Allegra DONATELLA'S DAUGHTER, ALLEGRA VERSACE, ANOREXIC Donatella Versace's 20-year-old daughter, Allegra, is undergoing treatment for anorexia, the fashion designer said. "Our daughter, Allegra, has been battling anorexia, a very serious disease, for many years," Versace and Paul Beck said in a statement released Tuesday by spokesman Robert Zimmerman. "She is receiving the best medical care possible to help overcome this illness and is responding well. As parents, we are doing our best to protect our daughter. However, due to numerous media reports, we want to let everyone know that we appreciate their concern for Allegra, and we ask that her privacy be respected at this time." Versace, 51, first confirmed the news to syndicated entertainment show "The Insider" on Tuesday following recent media speculation and Internet chatter about her daughter's gaunt appearance. Versace, the sister of the late designer Gianni Versace, and Beck are legally separated, Zimmerman said. How problematic is the fashion industry? In today's video I explore why 94% of all fashion models are underweight. The implications this has on body image, who are the ones responsible for so many fashion models being underweight and why does one of the largest industries in the world believe that the ideal female body type is that of an underweight woman. Fashion models are oftentimes silenced by their agents. Not often do we see a recognized, successful fashion model like Zuzanna Buchwald speaking about the dark side of the fashion industry. Sweet, charismatic and courageous, she opened up about the modeling industry after struggling with eating disorders and anorexia in particular. We are hopeful that the courage of Zuzanna Buchwald and alike who prepared to speak will agitate for legal change, and undermine in a very powerful way social myths about women's issues that promote acceptance of rigid, distorted body ideals. ""We're working in an industry that is perceived as frivolous, and so our concerns are not taken seriously," says model Sara Ziff, who's been the face of Tommy Hilfiger and Banana Republic and walked the runway for Calvin Klein and Chanel. A model since age 14, Ziff exposed ugly industry stories in her 2009 documentary "Picture Me," then founded the non-union workers' group Model Alliance two years ago this month. In a fashion week interview with Salon, Ziff described largely unseen sexual coercion, wage theft and eating disorders; discussed her efforts (in a personal capacity) to foster solidarity between U.S. fashion models and Bangladesh garment workers; and considered what clout her group can bring to bear on the trillion-dollar industry. A condensed version of our conversation follows. How different is the fashion industry from what most people imagine in the U.S.? The modeling industry seems very glamorous, and part of a model's job is to make the work invisible. It's to make, you know, being beautiful and glamorous seem effortless. And so it's not surprising that most people would have trouble seeing modeling as a job, and that the issues like difficulty in some cases getting paid for your work, long working hours, sexual harassment on the job — those are things that are hidden from view. And so I think often people are unsympathetic to models' concerns because the very nature of the job is to exude sort of effortless beauty and glamour."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down. *Read more here from Josh Eidelson / Salon: http://www.salon.com/2014/02/13/liposuction_eating_disorders_and_sexual_coercion_high_fashions_ugly_secrets/ ********** The Largest Online News Show in the World. 'I felt disgusting and unworthy': Plus-sized fashion blogger reveals how she overcame anorexia and decided she just wanted to 'enjoy life' Fashion fiend Cynthia Ramsay Noel, 34, has always loved fashion The 308lb woman said: 'I've had some horribly negative comments' As a teenager she spent most of her early years battling eating disorders Her blog founded in 2013 showcases plus size women A Canadian fashion blogger is reclaiming the teenage years she spent hiding away and crying - after finally overcoming her struggle with anorexia. Fashion fiend Cynthia Ramsay Noel, 34, has always loved fashion but was made to feel 'abnormal' when she was younger. While her friends dressed up in glamorous clothes, she could never dress as she wanted - but now she's making up for lost time. Size 26 Cynthia, who weighs 308lbs (22 stone), began her blog 'Flight of the Fat Girl' in 2013 to showcase how beautiful plus size women can be. She has since grown her hobby into a 32,000-strong following on Instagram. Cynthia, 34, said: 'I've loved fashion for as long as I can remember. 'Growing up a plus size girl it was hard because I loved nice clothes. I wanted them so badly! 'But there were very few options available to me because of my size. It made me feel that I wasn't normal. 'I spent a lot of my teenage years crying and hiding because I just wanted to dress like my friends and I couldn't. 'I think my current obsession with fashion is amplified because of all those years that I missed out on.' As a mother of four children, Cynthia has to balance her glamour with family time. But luckily for her, her family are keen to help out where they can. Her husband Jean, 34, is also a fashion fan and becomes her sounding board and photographer. Cynthia said: 'He gets annoyed at my perfectionism, but other than that, he really enjoys being part of what I do. 'It's pretty easy to balance looking glamorous with having kids. 'I'm not running around after toddlers anymore because my youngest child is six. That definitely helps!' When she first started her blog, Cynthia took selfies in the mirror as she was too nervous to do a shoot outside. But as her self-esteem grew, she slowly began to feel happier about taking her modelling out of the house. Now full of confidence, she is happy to do a shoot anywhere, even on the crowded streets of Manhattan. When she is out and about, Cynthia receives plenty of positive comments. However, online it can be a different story. She said: 'I've always had really positive reactions when shooting. 'So far I've been lucky. My followers are an amazing group of people and they are so encouraging and inspiring. 'People are usually much braver, when it comes to negative comments, when they are behind their computer screens. 'I've had some horribly negative comments. People have told me to kill myself, commented on my children, made racist comments about my husband. 'I also get a lot of negative traffic from fat hate pages, but I take it all with a pinch of salt. 'Most of their comments are based on their own self-hatred, and I actually feel a lot worse for them than I do for myself because I know how hard it is to hate yourself.' How One Develops Anorexia Nervosa in the Modeling Industry - Anorexia Documentary TV. Welcome to ANOREXIA DOCUMENTARY TV - home of the best documentary films and documentary movies on life, health, medicine, people, anorexia and bulemia. Anorexia nervosa, often referred to simply as anorexia, is an eating disorder characterized by low weight, fear of gaining weight, and a strong desire to be thin, resulting in food restriction. Many people with anorexia see themselves as overweight even though they are in fact underweight. If asked they usually deny they have a problem with low weight. Often they weigh themselves frequently, eat only small amounts, and only eat certain foods. Some will exercise excessively, force themselves to vomit, or use laxatives to produce weight loss. Complications may include osteoporosis, infertility and heart damage, among others. Women will often stop having menstrual periods. The cause is not known. There appear to be some genetic components with identical twins more often affected than non-identical twins. Cultural factors also appear to play a role with societies that value thinness having higher rates of disease. Additionally, it occurs more commonly among those involved in activities that value thinness such as high-level athletics, modelling, and dancing. Anorexia often begins following a major life-change or stress-inducing event. The diagnosis requires a significantly low weight. The severity of disease is based on body mass index (BMI) in adults with mild disease having a BMI of greater than 17, moderate a BMI of 16 to 17, severe a BMI of 15 to 16, and extreme a BMI less than 15. In children a BMI for age percentile of less than the 5th percentile is often used. Treatment of anorexia involves restoring a healthy weight, treating the underlying psychological problems, and addressing behaviors that promote the problem. While medications do not help with weight gain, they may be used to help with associated anxiety or depression. A number of types of therapy may be useful including an approach where parents assume responsibility for feeding their child, known as Maudsley family therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Sometimes people require admission to hospital to restore weight. Evidence for benefit from nasogastric tube feeding, however, is unclear. Some people will just have a single episode and recover while others may have many episodes over years. Many complications improve or resolve with regaining of weight. Globally, anorexia is estimated to affect 2.9 million people as of 2015. It is estimated to occur in 0.9% to 4.3% of women and 0.2% to 0.3% of men in Western countries at some point in their life. About 0.4% of young women are affected in a given year and it is estimated to occur ten times less commonly in men. Rates in most of the developing world are unclear. Often it begins during the teen years or young adulthood. While anorexia became more commonly diagnosed during the 20th century it is unclear if this was due to an increase in its frequency or simply better diagnosis. In 2013 it directly resulted in about 600 deaths globally, up from 400 deaths in 1990. Eating disorders also increase a person's risk of death from a wide range of other causes, including suicide. About 5% of people with anorexia die from complications over a ten-year period, a nearly 6 times increased risk. The term anorexia nervosa was first used in 1873 by William Gull to describe this condition. PLEASE READ........ WARNING!! GRAPHIC AND DISTURBING. here is a short film made by me, a recovering anorexic. It is meant to shock you into clarity. Don't watch it if you are easily bothered. Keep in mind all models ARE PHOTOSHOPPED, but the point is to see how sick minded we all are, when we reach a point where we even want to do such a thing.

A short video of some models battling with anorexia and eating disorders. I know some pictures aren't real, the point is to raise awareness and show that it isn't pleasant, I'm not trying to portray these models in a bad light. Some pictures aren't of anorexics, the point is that it is a video about ana and the things related. Also, the video was NOT made on windows movie maker or whatever before you try to be smart and think you're all 'high-tech'.

LIES: Warnung: Schockierende Bilder.

Ukrainian women from the feminist group Femen protested against the use of anorexic models outside the Versace fashion show at the Milan Fashion Week (February 24th 2012). The protesters wore jeans and handwritten slogans such as "Fashion = Fascism" and "Anorexia" scrawled across their bare chests. Versace fashion house sparked controversy at shows last year over its use of incredibly thin models. This is so sad; even more since Donatella Versace's daughter has been battling anorexia for years. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/world/thin-models-exposed-in-naked-rage-in-milan-italy-outside-versace-fashion-show/story-e6frev00-1226281953199 COPYRIGHT DISCLAMER Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Having discovered that a friend and fellow fashion blogger had been suffering from mental health and an eating disorder for many years, I decided to dedicate my first fashion photo shoot to a campaign to raise awareness about mental health and eating disorders amongst young girls in the UK, and also share an important message that's very close to my heart as a fashion blogger. I styled a group of 6 brave young ladies who have all had or are currently dealing with a mental health and/or an eating disorder. All the outfits used in the shoot costed just £1. All the people involved in the shoot (i.e. Make-up artists and the photographer) were all paid just £1. The reason for this was to help convey the key message of the fashion campaign as a whole; “It doesn’t cost a lot to look good. Don’t let it cost your mental and physical health. Don’t let it cost your life." The 6 amazing, brave young ladies who took part as models for the fashion photo shoot share their own mental health and eating disorder stories in the hope of being an encouragement to others. Thank you in advance! xxx Background music by: http://www.purple-planet.com/

A Canadian fashion blogger is reclaiming the teenage years she spent hiding away and crying - after finally overcoming her struggle with anorexia. 'I spent a lot of my teenage years crying and hiding because I just wanted to dress like my friends and I coul'I think my current obsession with fashion is amplified because of all those years that I missed out on.' As a mother of four children, Cynthia has to balance her glamour with family time.
