Beatles -- Hollywood Bowl live -- [ new vs. old audio! Very different ]
NEW! Beatles White Album --- 2018 Remix --- [ Amazon ] http://beatles.davenevins.com -- I appreciate the thoughtful work that Giles Martin and his team do to restore the Beatle masterpieces. He seems to have carried on his father’s legendary class, nuance, feather-touch, attention to detail, and respect for the material. And though I do enjoy both mixes, on the Hollywood Bowl I think I prefer the original, heavier tone. Though rougher, the grist feels more complimentary to Beatlemania. Also, in the sales marketing, the promise was that we would feel closer to the band, yet the newly added digital echo on the vocals makes me now feel like I’m sitting further back. (Plus, the digital delay time needs adjusting to match the older analog reverbs.) -- Music mixing typically aims for either accurate detail or energetic passion -- you call it an intellectual approach vs. an emotional one. It’s hard to do both: to be accurate yet passionate. In fairness, the producer’s dilemma is that the younger audiences are used to, and may prefer, the lighter, crisper tone. But the history and atmosphere of the live Beatles seems to cry out for organic energy. I know the older style isn’t the popular modern style, but for this product, I think prefer the rougher recordings. -- Another challenge: During the 60s, engineers mixed more light, aware that radio compressors wound crunch the sound heavier. But today, since most music is not heard on the radio, the result really varies: Either: a.) engineers mix too heavy and then radio added compression crushes it; else, b.) it’s mixed too light, and when played on mobile earbuds, it sounds whimsical. -- Last, I should note that the new versions had the advantage of working from the *actual* original recordings; yet the source cuts I’ve included here to contrast was from copy-from-copies (even saved at an unimpressive 128kbps MP3 -- very smushy on the high frequencies!) In other words, it would be fantastic to hear a thick-style production mix, --- yet using the original, crisp source recordings. That would really rock. Maybe one day Apple / EMI Records will release the separate original tracks and we can play with them. By the way, the John Lennon voice at the end is my impersonation – – I laughed because one of my friends insisted it was really John. Cheers! http://www.davenevins.com

The Beatles: Live At The Hollywood Bowl (official trailer)
The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bow - Jetzt bestellen: http://amzn.to/2c3VEEe.

Reelin' and Rockin' - The Beatles Live Vol. 17 (1965)
The Hollywood Bowl is an amphitheater in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The Hollywood Bowl is known for its band shell, a distinctive set of concentric arches that graced the site from 1929 through 2003, before being replaced with a larger one beginning in the 2004 season. The shell is set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Hills and the famous Hollywood Sign to the northeast. The "bowl" refers to the shape of the concave hillside the amphitheater is carved into. The bowl is owned by the County of Los Angeles and is the home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the host of hundreds of musical events each year. It is located at 2301 North Highland Avenue, west of the (former) The French Village,[1][2] north of Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood/Highland subway station and south of Route 101. Public Figures – that have appeared at the Bowl throughout the years include President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Mickey Rooney and Edward G. Robinson, as well as such "teams" as Fonteyn and Nureyev, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, Simon and Garfunkel, and Abbott and Costello. Dancers – Mikhail Baryshnikov has danced there, as did Fred Astaire. Musicians – Al Jolson, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Art Tatum, Buddy Rich, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Nat "King" Cole, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald,[12] Carrie Underwood, The Doors, Van Halen, Rod Stewart, José José, Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as various other Jazz and non-Jazz musicians have headlined star-studded shows at the Bowl.[13] The Hollywood Bowl has provided a showcase for the world's greatest musicians. Bernstein, Walter, Monteux, Mauceri, Koussevitzky, Stokowski, Karajan, Klemperer, and Leinsdorf, as well as Mehta, Giulini, Rattle, and Salonen are just a few of the conductors who have led the Los Angeles Philharmonic in summertime concerts over the past seven decades. Jerry Hadley, Philip Glass, Itzhak Perlman, Gregor Piatigorsky, Arthur Rubinstein, Thomas Hayward, Alfred Brendel, Vladimir Horowitz, Andre Watts, Horacio Gutierrez, Jessye Norman, Plácido Domingo, Beverly Sills, Isaac Stern, Kathleen Battle, Jane Eaglen, Marilyn Horne, Alexander Frey, Jennifer Larmore, Sylvia McNair, Andrea Bocelli, Gil Shaham, Stephen Hough, Luciano Pavarotti, Kygo—and other distinguished vocal and instrumental soloists too numerous to mention—represent the illustrious talent that has graced the stage. But never during its long and illustrious history has the Bowl's programming been limited solely to symphonic events; fully staged operas were a regular part of the season in the early years, and the famed Bolshoi Ballet appeared during the 1950s. The Beatles performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965,[16] which resulted in the live album The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl that was released in 1977. This recording was re-released in 2016 with the screams of the fans significantly reduced and sound improved with new technology by Giles Martin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_Bowl

NEW! Beatles White Album --- 2018 Remix --- [ Amazon ] http://beatles.davenevins.com -- If you enjoyed the Hollywood Bowl, you may like this 8/19/65 Houston treatment. The vocals can be rough here and there (esp. at 0:38 secs!) and the screaming is loud -- but it's still an enjoyable listen. -- The latest Beatles movie disc has been reduced on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Eight-Days-Week-Touring-Blu-Ray/dp/B01M13O81J/theofficiapet-20 Also, I have a book on the "voice of Love": http://www.amazon.com/Surrendering-Abundance-Receiving-Spirit-Filled-Messages/dp/1512049239/theofficiapet-20 -- Updated BEATLES: [ Subscribe on that channel please ] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BLkvqnIH5U&list=PLAoj4Fq92homwVnvykZTJOkRdFLc3MSxZ -- The goal was not to chronicle the event like a documentary, but an attempt to provide a more impressionistic experience, and highlight enjoyment of the music footage by: -- Bringing up the low bass -- Bringing up high treble for ease to hear vocals/guitars -- A plate reverb was added to soften the harsh vocal mics -- Using analog multi-band compressors to balance the sound. -- Removing the intra-song dialogue On live recordings I like to remove the intra-song dialogue to give a different feel to familiar material, a blend between raw and radio -- more right-brain (deeper) than left-brain (surface). Notes: 1. Since the vocals were so frequently distorted, I added a little more plate reverb than usual. They were just too rough and forward. 2 Despite occasional performance flubs, the only edit I fixed was the intro lead guitar, since it was at the very beginning. Here's a version closer to the source: https://youtu.be/RlCn4bSinnc 3. Various lines feature sketchy singing, but my fave is when John chokes and Paul laughs at 00:38 [ Note: in Feb 2017 I released the first version. Beatles Live -- Australia Concert [ film w/ great audio! ]
NEW! Beatles White Album --- 2018 Remix --- [ Amazon ] http://beatles.davenevins.com -- Updated BEATLES: [ Subscribe on that channel please ] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BLkvqnIH5U&list=PLAoj4Fq92homwVnvykZTJOkRdFLc3MSxZ -- For those curious, this film Includes footage of most of the concert, with four audio-only bonus tracks at the end. This was not to chronicle the event like a documentary, but an attempt to provide a more impressionistic experience, and highlight enjoyment of the music footage by: -- Removing the intra-song dialogue -- Trying to raise low bass (but it was really too muddy there) -- Bringing up high treble for ease to hear vocals/guitars -- Zooming in slightly to help fill out the frame -- Using analog multi-band compressors to balance the sound. Notes: 1. Including the intra-song dialogue didn't make as much sense since a.) the song order had to be reversed.b.) it's already available in other links. c.) IMO it highlights the intense emotional atmosphere -- the attempted goal on this video. 2. A very slight plate reverb was used on the John songs were his vocal was distorting and too forward in the mix. 3. It's a shame that on some of the Paul songs his mic is somewhat low. And John's rhythm guitar sounds great, but mixed a little loud. (It's nice to hear because it's usually more buried, but on this there was no way to easily correct it. I tried to bring up the frequencies a tad where Paul's voice was punching through, but there was a lot of overlap that made it hard.) 4. at 4:54 it appears as though the drummer is gone but that's just a drum kit from the previous band. Ringo is on a platform. 5. On a few songs the audio/video synch is slightly a few frames off -- because the original source was off. Most viewers don't notice or care; but if you watch the 2016 Ron H7oward feature you'll see it's off there too. Apparently it was married together about 20 yrs ago from the video and soundboard recording. I just got really tired with working on this and didn't notice. And also I never expected this video to be so popular since other versions have been around. Here's one that's closer to the original source footage: Part I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPZ-A9WJzTE Part II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSiT0HdZ7Tg Unfortunately YouTube doesn't allow for re-posting w/o losing views/comments. Hopefully someday. The back-half of the video is great though. ;) [Video+audio] 00:07 -- You Can't Do That 02:42 -- All My Loving 04:48 -- She Loves You 07:11 -- Can't Buy Me Love 09:19 -- Twist and Shout 12:01 -- Long Tall Sally [Mostly just audio] 14:41 -- Til There Was You 16:53 -- Roll Over Beethoven 19:13 -- This Boy 21:29 -- I Saw Her Standing There (If you want to scroll right to the brief video snippets of the last four songs, just run your mouse over the red line thumbnails to find them.) Since the goal was to group together the filmed parts, this is not the actual order of the concert (likely 6/17/64). The Complete @ Rare Beatles Intro At Hollywood Bowl Aug 64
Dee Jays. This is from a 1983 KRLA Beatles special and I spoke with Bob Eubanks about possibly using the information, from the great weekend, on the Beatles Book that I was writing. I have been all over the Hollywood Bowl and even managed to get up on stage once when the security guard wasn’t looking. (That’s a NO NO) Even got to get into the dressing room once for a job interview. Didn’t get the job but my mind was spinning. I was daydreaming. For the few who might have seen the original, this one is much better. Enjoy the few minutes experience. *One of these days, I will be able to totally figure out Nero Video 2016, VLC Media Player and Audacity.

Beatles -- Twist and Shout -- [ live film at Hollywood Bowl! ]
This is a pretty decent film capture considering that so many of the Hollywood Bowl footage seems tattered. Enjoy. -- Notes: 1. If the bass sounds a little low it may be because you are listening on set of computer speakers with a subwoofer. That's because on this recording the bass is on the left speaker only, which means on headphones and a standard stereo it'll be full; however, on the desktop you're only hearing half the bass going to the sub. FYI 2. This was processed using analog multi-band compressors to even out the frequencies, giving it a more full, vintage sound. 3. This was not taken form an original source, so the sound could be cleaned up further, of course. 4. If you see me re-post this, I probably found a way to upgrade. Sometimes when you watch later or on another platform you see correctable glitches. FYI. -- Here's my book on the "Voice of Love": https://www.amazon.com/Surrendering-Abundance-Receiving-Spirit-Filled-Messages/dp/1512049239/theofficiapet-20 http://www.davenevins.com

The Beatles - Boys [Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, United States]
Live: Sunday 23/08/1964 «The Hollywood Bowl was marvellous. It was the one we all enjoyed most, I think, even though it wasn't the largest crowd - because it seemed so important, and everybody was saying things. We got on, and it was a big stage, and it was great. We could be heard in a place like the Hollywood Bowl, even though the crowds was wild: good acoustics.» [John Lennon, Anthology] All 18,700 tickets for the event had sold out four months previously. The Beatles took to the stage at 9.30pm. «We played the Hollywood Bowl, The shell around the stage was great. It was the Hollywood Bowl - these were impressive places to me. I fell in love with Hollywood then, and I am still in love with Hollywood - well, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, California. I prefer it to New York.» [Ringo Starr, Anthology] The concert was also filmed, by a newsreel company and an amateur film-maker in the audience. A car was parked by the stage to whisk The Beatles away at 10pm when the concert ended. For the next two days they stayed at a rented house at 356 St Pierre Road in Brown Canyon, Bel Air. The Beatles - Twist and Shout (The Hollywood Bowl, Aug 23, 1964)
The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960, and are often recognized as the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed act in popular music. From 1962 the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked in many genres ranging from folk rock to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as the "Beatlemania" fad, transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. Initially with a five-piece line-up of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums), The Beatles built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg clubs over a three-year period from 1960. Sutcliffe left the group in 1961, and Best was replaced by Starr the following year. Moulded into a professional outfit by music store owner Brian Epstein after he offered to act as the group's manager, and with their musical potential enhanced by creativity of producer George Martin, The Beatles achieved mainstream success in the United Kingdom in late 1962 with their first single, "Love Me Do". Gaining international popularity over the course of the next year, they toured extensively until 1966, then retreated to the recording studio until their break-up in 1970. Each then found success in an independent musical career. Lennon was murdered outside his home in New York City in 1980, and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr remain active. During their studio years, The Beatles produced what critics consider some of their finest material including the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), widely regarded as a masterpiece. Four decades after their break-up, The Beatles' music continues to be popular. The Beatles have had more number one albums on the UK charts, and held down the top spot longer, than any other musical act. According to RIAA certifications, they have sold more albums in the United States than any other artist. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the all-time top-selling Hot 100 artists to celebrate the US singles chart's fiftieth anniversary, with The Beatles at number one. They have been honoured with 7 Grammy Awards, and they have received 15 Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. The Beatles were collectively included in Time magazine's compilation of the 20th century's 100 most influential people. "She Loves You" is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney based on an idea by McCartney, originally recorded by The Beatles for release as a single in 1963. The single set and surpassed several records in the United Kingdom charts, and set a record in the United States by being one of the five Beatles songs which held the top five positions in the American charts simultaneously. It is The Beatles' best-selling single in the United Kingdom, and was the best selling single in Britain in 1963. "She Loves You" was credited to "Lennon/McCartney" as were all subsequent songs written by the pair and released during the remainder of the band's tenure. With the exception of the single version of "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You", all prior songs were credited as "McCartney/Lennon". The sequence was a source of controversy when McCartney changed it to "McCartney/Lennon" for some live versions released later in his career. This was the first song by The Beatles to be heard by a substantial number of Americans; the only United States release by The Beatles that had even charted before that was "From Me to You", which lasted three weeks in August 1963, never going higher than number 116. In November 2004, Rolling Stone ranked "She Loves You" as the 64th Greatest Song of All Time. In October 2005, Uncut magazine named "She Loves You" as the third biggest song that changed the world, behind Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" and Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone". In August 2009, at the end of its "Beatles Weekend", BBC Radio 2 announced that "She Loves You" was The Beatles' all-time best-selling single in the UK based on information compiled by The Official Charts Company. ~SOURCE: Wikipedia PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads among multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. Beatlemania! Beatles @ Hollywood Bowl 1965, sound home movie
This is what it was like to attend a Beatles concert in the USA in 1964. This home movie, captured by some kind-hearted dad, really shows what it was like to be among that mass of screaming, joyous youth all those years ago. You get most of "Twist and Shout" and "You Can't Do That," but what blows me away is the rapture visible on the delirious California youth as they exit the Hollywood Bowl on that hot night of August 23, 1964.

Beatles -- All My Loving -- [ live Hollywood Bowl excerpt w/ good audio ]
This clip is surprisingly good quality in both the audio and video given the other footage available from this concert. There must be more of this in a vault somewhere, which would be great to access. Because YouTube prevents one from uploading the entire song, I have included this excerpt. It is somewhere in the vault at Apple Records, or somewhere. Enjoy. -- Notes: 1. This was processed using analog multi-band compressors to even out the frequencies, giving it a more full, vintage sound. 2. This was not taken form an original source, so the sound could be cleaned up further, of course. 3. If you see me re-post this, I probably found a way to upgrade. Sometimes when you watch later or on another platform you see correctable glitches. FYI. -- Here's my book on the "Voice of Love": https://www.amazon.com/Surrendering-Abundance-Receiving-Spirit-Filled-Messages/dp/1512049239/theofficiapet-20 http://www.davenevins.com --
In my last unboxing video, I unboxed the new CD by the Monkees "Good Times!" And in this video, I unbox another new CD that I have been looking forward to - The Beatles "Live At The Hollywood Bowl." NOTE: Yes, I was aware that I did not have the absolutely best camera angle after I had filmed this. I will fix it for the next video, but I still wanted to put this video up. ►SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=mickdead ►SUBSCRIBE TO MY PODCAST! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-nwj9DTlQj2cIMCXX-VaXg ►FOLLOW ME Twitter https://twitter.com/its_only_tom Vine https://vine.co/u/967305433159294976
