The tips and strategies that I'm going to talk about may be a little bit different, you're going to be surprised - trust me I was on Audible the other day, and I came across a book I thnk a lot of guys watching Abs After 40 could look to benefit from: Naturally Triple Your Testosterone - A Guide to Hacking Your Hormones & Becoming Superhuman by Peter Paulson. I always want to read up on the latest and greatest tips for boosting test, but I just don't have the time like I would want to comb the internet, do my own research, and do more and more fact checking. Anyways - back to my "different" tips I learned for boosting t-levels: 2:45 - #1: Increase Exposure To Cold Temperatures - This is a no-brainer if you're tired and sore from training and want to help out your aching joints. You can quickly and easily do this my placing an ice pack on the back of your neck for 10-15 minute intervals as you are sitting around listen to Audible or watching TV. A bit more drastic way to do this is to either submerge yourself in an ice bath or for the last 10 minutes of your shower turning the water to cold. 3:35 - #2: Eat Full-Fat, Grass-Fed Butter - You can do this by simply buying a healthy, natural grass-fed butter and spreading it on your morning toast or cooking your breakfast in a serving of it. This way, you are getting a great source of vitamin A and K, as well as the necessary saturated fats that are crucial for testosterone production. 4:06 - #3: Do Compound Exercises & HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) - Today we're going to go over 3 of my favorite workouts that incorporate these two styles of training to help boost test. And al you need is a light set of dumbbells. Let's get started: 5:06 - Weighted Lunge Curls: Do 10 lunges per leg with 20 bicep curls. You will alternate each leg while curling both dumbbells at the same time as you come up. 6:00 - Dumbbell Push-Ups to One-Arm Rows: Do 20 push-ups total with 10 rows per arm. As you are coming up from eh push-up, you are going to alternate each arm to row. 7:09 - Knee-to-Elbow Taps: Do 10 reps on each side. Since you'll already be in a push-up position with your dumbbells in place, you can go right into these. Do all these moves back-to-back for 3 rounds with a 30-45 second break in between rounds to really help boost those test levels up to burn off that stubborn belly fat. Does something change so dramatically that would force you to have to pick up the “old person” workout instead of the ones being done by somebody half your age? Well, if you allow your mind to believe that and you’ve allowed your body to follow then maybe. That said, I hope by the end of this video you will have a much different opinion on the right workout for men regardless of age. To illustrate the errors in this thinking just remember back to when you were a child. Do you remember how you used to be able to bend over and touch your toes with nearly perfect hamstring flexibility. How about being able to squat all the way down to the ground and back up without the slightest joint discomfort or mobility issues. The problem is, that as we age we stop doing the things that kept us feeling young. It’s a case of “use it or lose it”. If you don’t continue to do the workouts and exercises and simple daily activities that tested your physicality, you will lose much of the attributes you gained from doing these things. I used to have to jump a fence to get from one class to the other at college. If I didn’t, I would have to walk all the way around the campus and it would have made it much more difficult to get to my next class on time. During a single semester spent off site at an internship I took a hiatus from fence jumping! The first time I jumped after coming back months later, I felt as if my ankles would give out and that knees and hips felt a ground reaction shock I hadn’t felt in a long time. I didn’t use it, so I lost it. The same thing happens with your workouts and training as you age. If you stop doing things in your workouts because you allow yourself to get too tight or you sacrifice your mobility, then you are only making it harder on yourself to regain those attributes the older you get. In order to feel young and fit forever you have to not only make sure you are continuing to do the things that make you strong now but that represent every facet of well being. A complete approach must include balance, mobility, agility, strength, flexibility, and even mental toughness and a resilience to aging! Don’t simply accept that you are getting old because a number tells you that you are. If you stay active and fit you will continue to be strong, ripped and muscular despite what you have been told you should look like “for a man your age”! Clark here and today I want to go over something that is getting a lot of guys feeling down about themselves, losing confidence as a man, and even deteriorating a man's sex drive - The Test "Taboo." What I'm referring to is the double standard that exists between aging men and women. So, how come women can go get boob implants, wear high heels, and do other cosmetic changes to "fight" aging and menopause, however, it's frowned up when men look to getting things like hair replacement, a penis enlargement, chest implants to look more muscular - why is that? The onset of menopause in women is seen as normal, known as "the change," whereas low testosterone in men as they age ends up having guys perceived as half the man they once were or a sissy. When a woman goes to seek medical attention and aid to help with menopause, it's fine. However, when a man goes out to seek help with low testosterone, it's frowned upon and you feel ashamed to do it. This is the part that is "taboo" that just doesn't sit with me. Because the truth is this: You are aging and your hormone health is going to change - that's a fact. Seeking out ways to help yourself and work to improve this degenerative process is crucial for any aging man. If you think you're being a man by not going to the doctor and seeking help, think again. That's like saying you won't go to the doctor and you end up with rotten teeth. So, what do you do then? Get off your ass and go to a doctor to get your test levels checked. Look at your total test versus free test levels. Also look at your estrogen levels. Along with your thyroid. Understanding what's changing with your body and what you need to do to fix it is so important. Not just for you, but for your loved ones - your wife, girlfriend, and family - friends, and career. It's not worth being stubborn and saying you don't need to visit the doctor to leave it up to chance that you won't be able to the man you want to or once were in the near future. Listen - it's not bad for you as the man to have hormone problems. It's a natural part of aging. So I’m going to quickly list the top 7 signs that you have low testosterone and then one of my favorite, natural solutions. 1 -- Low Sex Drive / Libido One of the biggest signs is that you have low libido. This includes physical and/or emotional drive. So, don’t think it’s just limited to erectile dysfunction or a physical “urge”. 2 -- Depression of Feeling “Unmotivated” Like I said, your brain has testosterone receptors also and thus, low testosterone leads to a lack of drive in life, not just sex. Beginner Workout For Men Over 40 - With Clark Bartram & Joe Barlam

Today, I'm going to teach him how to make the most out of his time in the gym. Joe had an athletic background in his past and played a lot of sports... And still does. However, once he hit 40, things just sort of changed. He still plays in a bar softball league and exercises regularly, however it hasn't really been enough to keep the belly fat off. So what I want to do with Joe today is show him how to make the most out of his time here in the gym, not wasting time doing exercises that won't be benefitting him, and make sure that the exercises he's doing are going to keep him safe and functionally fit so he can continue to do them long after he's done here. What we do here at Abs After 40 is use our program to maximize your time in the gym. Who really wants to spend over an hour in the gym? I can get you in and out of the gym in 20 minutes using compound movements that can still change your body and physique, keep you functional, and help you get that stubborn belly fat off. Compound movements, in case you didn't know, are the opposite of isolation movements. Compound movements involve using more than one muscle group. So instead of a bicep curl, you would do a pull-up. The bicep curl only uses your bicep, while the pull up involves a lot of different muscles from the back and also the arms. Before starting any exercise program, of course, make sure you're being safe and make sure you consult your physician beforehand. Workout Breakdown: 5:56 - Deadlift Demonstration: Walk to the bar. Stand with your mid-foot under the bar. Don't touch it with your shins yet. Bend over and grab the bar with your hands directly outside of your legs. Legs should be about shoulder/hip width apart. Bend your knees. Keep going until your shins touch the bar and your butt comes down. Lift your chest. Straighten your back, and Pull straight up, pushing your heels and midfoot into the ground. You should end up standing completely straight with chest up, shoulders back, and legs straight. 10:49 - Squat Push Press Demonstration: Using a shorter bar, we're going to pick it up and put it in a position where it's basically resting on our chest, but also your hands underneath it will support it. With Legs slightly wider than shoulder width apart, you will start the movement. From here, you're just going to drop your butt straight down, pushing your knees to the outside of your body (never let them dip inward) and once you reach the bottom of the squat (your hips should end up below your knees but this may not work for some people, so you don't have to go that low), powerfully push yourself back to standing while also pressing the barbell above your head. Make sure to always keep good posture during this movement, keeping your abs tight and your chest up. From the top of the position, just slowly lower the barbell back down and go into your next repetition, squatting down again. 12:50 - Joe's attempt, additional coaching. Make sure to keep your weight in your heels and the middle of the foot rather than the toes. This movement is great because we're working just about every muscle in the body, from the legs, arms, shoulders, and core for stabilization. 15:07 - Second Set/attempts. 17:40 - Lunge-Curl Demonstration: Stand holding a light dumbbell in each hand and step forward into a lunge with your left leg (lower your body until your right knee nearly touches the floor). At the bottom of the lunge, curl those dumbbells up, and lower them as you push yourself back to the starting position. Make sure that as you lunge, your bent knee stays behind the toe (of the leg that you are stepping forward with). 20:17 - Joe's Demonstration of the Lunge-Curl. I want to note that Joe wasn't using any crazy heavy weights. Let's remember that Rome wasn't built in a day and the first thing we need to do is make sure we're getting the movement correct first - then we can increase the weight and continue working on the strength. You absolutely need to take things slowly and avoid getting hurt, because getting injured by having a big ego is just going to set you back further in approaching your goals.
