CSS pseudo-element: first-child last-child

03:32
These CSS pseudo-elements will select the first or last of any HTML element. first-chile and last-child will then apply some sort of CSS to them. The one requirement is that they be a inside some other HTML element, which everything practically is. In this video I change the background color of list items, lists, and a div. psuedo-elements are called such because they are a part of cascading style sheets that act a lot like HTML elements. http://www.technoblogical.com/web-design/ Providing training since last Tuesday http://www.technoblogical.com Thanks for watching!

CSS - The General Sibling Selector

04:31
G is for General Sibling The general sibling selector is part of the family of combinator selectors in CSS that allow the styling of descendants, children, grandchildren, and siblings of an element. Some of them aren’t that commonly used but they have very deep browser support. Examples include h2 ~ p {} /* general sibling */, h2 p {} /* descendent */ and h2 * p {} /* grandchild */. I’ll be teaching you further about these values and its other variations. https://www.sitepoint.com

CSS Basics: 3. CSS Selectors, Element, Class and ID

06:35
So we just looked at a basic CSS statement and it starts with a selector. So what the hell are selectors, again? Say you are brangelina, and you have a bunch of kids, you wanna dress them for school except only one of them is old enough for school. So first you have to pick the right kid, then dress/style them. That’s what selectors are. Choose which kid you wanna prepare for school. Or since you’re not brangelina, Choose which element you wanna style. It all starts with the selector. There are different kinds of selectors. In our example, we used what’s called an element selector because it targets your styles based on the element type, That’s the most basic selector there is. By using the element type. Like a p tag. Cool? Cool. The problem with element selectors is that you might not want to turn ALL your paragraphs blue. What if you had 3 paragraphs and you only want one of them to be blue? The element type is an identifier but in this case it’s too general. I wanna show you an example. Look at this thing on atom’s website. See these two sections? One of them has a white background, the other one is beige. If you inspect it you’ll see they’re both divs, here they are, so clearly the dudes who made this couldn’t have said oh select all divs and change the background to white or beige. They needed to be more specific. You can select elements based on other kinds of identifiers. Classes and ID. Class is the most common and useful one, in fact that’s exactly what Atom is using. Take a look. They have wrapper class on one, and highlight on the other. If you click on highlight, you’ll see that class has a beige background on it. So let’s do one ourselves. Let’s say you have 4 paragraphs and you want to alternate between dark and light. So dark, light, dark, light. In other words you wanna reuse a style for multiple elements. In this case you can use a CLASS selector. The way you write these in CSS is you write the name of your class, this could be whatever you want, just can’t have spaces and some special characters, say DARK, and you put a DOT in front of it. Why a DOT? Well, I dunno what to tell you. There’s no good explanation why, that at least I know about. It’s just syntax that you have to remember. This tells the browser hey this is a CLASS selector. Then of course you have to add the class to your element in HTML. This means “hey select all the elements that have a class attribute and the value is dark. Let’s try it: DEMO 4 - I’m gonna cover ID selectors too just for the sake of it although we don’t use them much. ID attributes are specific to one element only. If you have a style that you want to apply to only one element, for some reason, you can add an ID to that element (for example: my-blue-paragraph), then use an ID selector in CSS to style it. ID selectors are just like CLASS selectors, except you put a # in front of the name instead of the DOT. That becomes the CSS selector for the element with that ID. So let’s try it. DEMO 3 - The problem with ID is that it’s limited to only 1 element. Remember IDs can’t be shared between elements. So you can’t reuse my-blue-paragraph ID for multiple elements. So those are the 3 basic selectors. Element, Class and ID. “Element” to style the elements of that type. ID to target only one specific element. And Class to reuse for multiple elements. We’ll be using all of them from now on. Selectors can get much much more complicated and they will, but now you know the basics. So next, we’re gonna look at some of our options when it comes to style properties, like color, so far that’s all we’ve used so I’m gonna talk about it in detail. Later, fonts, sizes, background, border, animations, display types, flexbox, where’d everyone go? I was talking.

Enabling 3D perspective - Webflow CSS tutorial

Enabling 3D perspective on an element makes it possible to move, rotate, and scale objects in 3D space. You can set perspective on a parent element and have it affect all of its children, or just on the element itself. Both of these options unlock 3D transforms. In this video, we’ll cover your options for 3D perspective, and show you how to scale elements on the z axis: 1. No perspective 2. Children perspective 3. Self perspective 4. CSS nth child Selectors

12:38
When you are trying to target HTML elements in a pattern, like every second or third list item or table row, then the nth-child selector and its partners are exactly what you need. Remember that, unlike JavaScript, the HTML elements are numbered starting at one, not zero. The formula used by these selectors is (an + b) Where the letter `n` stays as n. The letter a is replaced by a numeric multiplier. The letter b is replace by a number which is the starting point. The letter a can also be a negative integer. Eg: :nth-child(-2n + 4) This would represent the following elements: (-2 * 0 + 4) == 4 (-2 * 1 + 4) == 2 (-2 * 2 + 4) == 0 - no match for this or any numbers after this. How to use nth child selector formula (an + b) to determine the positions of child elements inside a parent div. This is an advanced css tutorial for beginners by Learning Simplified. ===================================================== SUBSCRIBE FREE TO STAY TUNED FOR MORE!!! ===================================================== We made a slide-show presentation here to make you understand the formula (an + b) which is indispensable in determining the position of a particular or a series of child elements, where 'a' = index multiple, 'n' is a counter that starts from zero and 'b' is the offset position. It is a crucial one as we are able now to expand our limit and with the aid of it we will understand this tutorial or the previous one that was discussed on it with some examples. We have discussed this formula with three examples, the first one is choosing the third block with a set of specific properties, which will be followed by every alternative blocks, i.e., starting from third, then fifth, seventh, ninth and so on. As the template we are using here has only five elements, hence the 3rd and fifth value will only be considered. Another thing, 0th position won't be considered here. Then we knew about individual property attribution to each block and finally, we discussed about mechanism on how to impose individual background properties to individual list elements in a menu bar. How text styles cascade down - Webflow CSS tutorial

03:19
In Webflow, as in code, elements pass their typographic style information down to their children. You can set text styles on parent elements, these styles will cascade down, and you can override these styles on their child elements. It’s common to use this technique to set global font styles on the Body tag, to align text and other elements inside of sections, and to override default link block styles. In this article, we’ll cover three examples of how text style cascading works: 1. From the body tag 2. From Webflow's section element 3. CSS video tutorial - 10 - CSS Cascade Vs CSS Inheritance

17:58
Cascade vs. Inheritance Cascade: deals with precedence of style rules or CSS properties (i.e. the order in which properties are applied to an html element). It solves conflict situations. Let me ask you a question: What happens when we define set of style rules for a specific tag in external, internal as well as inline styles? The answer is: “rules get’s cascade” When we define a set of style rules for a specific tag in external, internal as well as inline style, then browser creates a virtual declaration list by merging all style rules together by following rules of cascade, and then applies the merged virtual declaration list to specified tag. The rules of the cascade include: 1. Later properties (nearest) override earlier (farthest) properties 2. More specific selectors (less generic) override less specific (more generic) selectors Inheritance: deals with how styles poured down from a parent element to its child elements. Certain properties, like font-family gets inherited. If you set a font-family on the body element, then it will get inherited by all the elements within the body. The same is true for color, but it is not true for background color, border-style,margin or height which will always default to transparent, none, auto and auto. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/WwTIrUrnFPA Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/uIjQeBemGgE ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/chidrestechtu... CSS Basics: 10. Box Model

04:23
You can be a great CSS developer when you understand how and why your elements are displayed the way they are. One of the most important things to really fully understand is where an element starts, and where it ends. Most people think they know. But they don’t really know. They just look at the text inside the element, or how its children are rendered. But that’s not always the correct representation of the spacing or even the sizing of that element. It can be very misleading. So in order for us to be 100% sure how an element is constructed and displayed, we need to talk about the Box Model. Every HTML element is considered to have an invisible box wrapped around it. You probably already think about elements that way. Oh look, we added a light green background to our sections and they seem to be these separate rectangular boxes. But what’s happening inside that box? Or even outside for that matter? In order to explain, I’ll use a simpler element like a paragraph and I’ll give it the same green background so you can see. Here’s what the box is made out of: CONTENT - what you see inside the box. In the context of a paragraph, content is text itself. In the case of our Sections in our profile, the children are the content. Ok so we got the content, the visible part. Then you have PADDING - Padding is the space between the content and the edges of the box. This gives you room to show your content without feeling so cramped and claustrophobic. This is sometimes referred to as negative space. So how do you add padding? Simple. Using the padding property, to change all sides at once, So let’s say padding: 20 pixels. or more specifically padding-top, right, bottom or left. Ok, so we got a little room to breath. Then there is the BORDER. The border of your element, which by default is 0, nothing, is still a part of your element. Remember we are still talking about the paragraph element, we’re not talking about a new border element or anything like that. This is still a part of the paragraph element. You can specify the border width, style and color. For example: BORDER… 3px… SOLID... ORANGE. Cool. Looking good. AAAAAAND finally you have this magical property called MARGIN. Margin is the space around the visible part of the element. Outside the borders. Margins are what allow neighboring elements to be laid out next to each other, without bumping into one another. And the way you change margin is very similar to padding, top, right, bottom left, except they start with margin. I guess this could also be considered negative space. I’m not a designer but I think every time you allow empty room for your content to breath you are essentially creating negative space. And that’s it. That’s the Box Model. So one more time, We got: CONTENT. PADDING. BORDER. MARGIN. This, is the box model. And it applies to every single element. There are small caveats when dealing with inline elements but we’ll get there. You can already see this for any of your elements, if you inspect it in chrome, and go to this helper tool under the style tag, it shows you exactly what I just talked about. So,... in the next video, we’re gonna take our page, and lay it out much much nicer using Box Model properties. See you there ;)

There are four different combinators in CSS3: 1.descendant selector . 2.child selector 3.adjacent sibling selector 4.general sibling selector descendant selector : The descendant selector matches all elements that are descendants of a specified element. child selector: The child selector selects all elements that are the immediate children of a specified element.
