Fast Fashion Is Disgusting (you need to stop shopping at fashion nova, zara, and primark)

This is a video that I've need to make for a long time. And I'm happy it's coming out now! Throughout my time on Youtube I've shit on fast fashion brands without giving a real explanation, so here it is. This video is not meant to attack anyone, it's rather just me showing you guys something that you might not have known about how your clothes are made. Hopefully, we can change the way fashion currently works and with just a little bit of work and being defiant, I think it's possible. How fast fashion adds to the world's clothing waste problem (Marketplace)

22:24
Fast fashion is a major contributor to the world's clothing waste problem. Many of us give our old clothes to charity or drop them in a store take-back bin, but you might be surprised to learn most of it is sold and can end up in the landfill. Which brands are “fast fashion”? How to tell (in 4 points) ǀ Justine Leconte

06:51
Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? Thumbs up if you liked this video :-) If you subscribe to this channel and click on the bell, you will be notified when a new video goes live! How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion

04:02
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency? Is it Ethical to buy Fast Fashion Secondhand?

05:05
Come for a walk with me! In this video I chat about why I think it's okay to buy fast fashion brands second hand and a few things to think about when doing so. As I've mentioned in other videos shopping secondhand is one of the most sustainable and ethical ways to buy clothes - you are not using any new resources or supporting unethical manufacturing, and you're reducing waste. It's also a very affordable way to reduce your impact and build a conscious wardrobe. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! How to shop for sustainable fashion | Justine Leconte

06:19
This video answers your questions from 3 weeks ago: How to know which fashion brands are ethical and sustainable? Where to shop for sustainable clothes? My 5 tips: 1. Visit the brand’s ABOUT section: are they being transparent about their process and about where the fabrics come from? 2. Google the brand: were there sourcing scandals in which the brand was involved? 3. Look out for certification symbols in online shops and check the symbols on the Eco Label Index: http://goo.gl/9KTKSr Examples: GOTS and FAIR TRADE. 4. Research by country, brand or production criteria on Eco Fashion World: http://goo.gl/DWMntR Example: ABURY, my friend’s label based in Berlin with production in Marocco: http://goo.gl/h2XE8m 5. Read blogs and websites about sustainable fashion. Here are a few interesting ones: Guide to buying sustainable, fair trade and vegan clothing: http://goo.gl/9oBYS0 Affordable fashion online: http://goo.gl/zWxn7d Sourcing directory for fashion: http://goo.gl/A3t2Y5 Ethical Consumer – the website of the magazine: http://goo.gl/NYHe8N And if you see a brand doing something wrong, say it! It will force them to change their methods! Give this video your two thumbs up… and subscribe to this channel because: - it is free! - you don’t miss any future video! How ZARA Took Over The Fashion World

Get your custom domain at http://hover.com/ProactiveThinker You will stay poor if you think like this: https://goo.gl/1BCJgq why you will never get rich: https://goo.gl/zkFTpw For more great content! Instagram: https://goo.gl/vzBDdg Facebook: https://goo.gl/DZmAeM Twitter: https://goo.gl/6gvG4T #Business #Fashion When we think at some of the greatest companies in the world, we think of examples such as Google, Amazon and so on. But one of the richest men in the world has made his fortune through the most traditional business you can think about - selling clothes. In fact, in the summer of 2017, the shares of his company soared and for a couple of hours and he held the title of the richest man in the world. But Gates claimed back his position later on the same day. Without any formal education except for the first few years in school, he has built the largest clothing company in the entire world. It all started in Spain. Back then child labor was normal. So Amancio left school at the age of 13 to start working as a delivery boy in a local shirtmaker shop. Where he learned to make clothes by hand. He loved his job and started excelling at it, so much that by the time he was 24, he was appointed as a manager. Not bad for the 1960s, right? Ortega realized that only the wealthy residents could afford their clothes so he started working on his own designs that are more affordable. He started producing pretty similar designs but at a much lower cost targeting the rest of the residents. His strategy work out and he successfully sold all of his designs and used the earnings to open his first factory in 1963 Finally, in 1975, he decided to establish his own brand and named Zara. Zara’s strategy was absolutely simple, sell quality products for a reasonable price so that everyone could afford them. This strategy seems so obvious, why others didn't use it. When Ortega was working in that shirtmaker store. He realized that how the cost of the garments significantly increase when they move from designers to factories to stores. He learned the importance of delivering products directly to consumers without third-party distributors. So Zara started doing everything by itself. This reducing the cost But Ortego’s ambitions didn't stop there, it was time to go international. He established his first store outside Spanish borders in Portugal, in 1988. And a year later In New York. And since then the company has been unstoppable. Ortega realized he can't target all the segments of the market through Zara. So he acquired many different brands such as Pull&Bear, Bershka, Massimo Dutti and so on. And formed them all under a holding company - Inditex. But Zara is the biggest of them, it accounts for over 60% of total sales. Unlike other brands, Zara didn't waste money on advertisements. It knew that as long as there are quality clothes for affordable prices, people are going to buy them, so they kept opening new stores instead. By the year 2000, Zara had stores all around North America and Europe. So it was time to invade Asia and the rest of the world. Inditex has over 7000 stores now. What also sets them apart is that, since everything is done in-house. Zara can design a product and get them into stores in less 2 weeks compare to 6 month which is industry average. Ortega followed just in time production strategy. That means they made their supply chain so effective that they could supply their stores in less than 48 hours. Which means, they don't need to order more than they need and if something is selling too good. They know that they can have it back on the shelves in 48 hours. That provided Zara with absolutely unique advantage. This incredible success story started with a 13-year-old kid who simply had a dream and didn't have any formal education. It seems like nothing is impossible as long as you are patient, dedicated and hard working. But in today’s world with the rise of the internet, the first thing you have to do when you start a project is to register your domain. Imagine starting your business but then finding out that your domain is already taken. That's exactly why you need Hover because registering a domain through Hover is much easier than you think. Life Perspective | Your ultimate plus-size fashion shopping guide

Life Perspective | Your ultimate plus-size fashion shopping guide Your ultimate plus-size fashion shopping guide Growing up as an unconfident plus-size teenager, finding clothes was my version of hell. Shopping for fun? Absolutely not. Trying to find clothes on the high street that a, actually fit and b, were fashionable, was impossible. Being plus-size, my options were hugely limited, which only further perpetuated the idea that people above a size 16 weren’t welcome in the fashion world. Fast forward a few years and things have definitely improved for plus-size women. Shopping on the high street is still as difficult as ever however, options for online shopping are now much better and 1,000% more stylish. Part of my job as plus-size style blogger is to share with my readers how I style my outfits, as well as helping them on their journey of self-love and confidence. Being plus-size doesn't mean fashion can't work for you, you've just got to know what to look for. To help you curate the wardrobe you've always dreamed of, I am sharing the tips I've picked up along the way from my years of blogging and personal shopping, because fashion really is for every body. 1. Buy double of things you love. When you find something you really love, that fits perfectly, is in your size and makes you feel amazing, buy two of them. It might seem excessive, but sadly when it comes to plus-size fashion, some perfect styles only come around once. So it’s better to be safe than sorry. 2. Shop menswear and maternity. You can find some incredibly stylish and unique pieces looking in both these departments. Just because it has a label, doesn’t mean that only those who fit within that label can wear it. My personal favourite place to shop in these sections are ASOS Men Plus and maternity. 3. Don't be afraid to shop in places that don't stock your size. Whilst it is frustrating that some stores don’t cater above a size 18, you can sometimes find great options in oversize style pieces. Monki is a great example for this with their Scandinavian style dresses that can fit up to a size 26. 4. Ignore sizing on labels. First off, don’t let sizing dictate how you feel about yourself. It’s just a number, it holds no value on you as a person. Sizing differs everywhere, especially when you are plus-size, so don’t be afraid to go up, or even down a size, when finding clothes that you like. As long as it fits and you feel comfortable that’s all that matters. 5. But do make a note of the fit of your favourite brands. As mentioned above, sizing online and in-store can differ hugely. A good tip is to keep note of your sizing in your favourite shops. For example, on ASOS, New Look and River Island online sizing is pretty spot on, but with brands like Boohoo, Missguided or Pretty Little Thing, sizing runs small. Being aware of this is so helpful for timesaving, no one wants to spend their life in the post office doing returns. 6. Go get your bra fitted. If I could only impart one piece of advice it would be this. Wearing your correct size can change your posture, decrease back pain and make you feel more confident in your clothes. Book yourself in at somewhere like Bravissimo for a fitting and treat yourself to some gorgeous new lingerie. Elomi, Panache and Curvy Kate are three of my favourite full bust lingerie brands to check out. 7. Try everything on. When you see something in-store, even if you think it might not work for your body shape, try it. How something looks on a hanger can looks completely different on a body, so give everything a go! 8. Invest in your wardrobe staples. One of the best things I own is a woollen black duster coat - it is simple, stylish and chic and it goes with everything. It might cost you more than something you could find from a fast fashion shop, but a timeless piece can see you through every season, regardless of trends. 9. Shop vintage/charity shops. I’ll be honest - the plus-size sections of vintage can be sparse; but it's always worth checking them out for any hidden goodies, especially in the men’s section. Look out for cool slogan tees, dungarees, dresses and coats. I once found an old oversize Levi denim jacket for £10 in a shop in Brick Lane. 10. Experiment with colour. I used to wear specifically only black clothing, because I thought it would make me look slimmer, but this just simply isn’t true. Colour looks great on all body types. Experiment with what works for you and don’t be afraid to stand out. 11. Ignore plus-size styling rules. You can wear stripes, you can wear white, you can wear a crop top. Fashion is about expression not about rules. You deserve to feel good and stylish, so don’t think that you have to hide your body. Confidence comes from within, if you look confident in something that will shine through, so get your arms and legs out in the summer!

Fast Fashion - what it is & why it’s problematic

24:58
In today vid we’re discuss fast fashion: what it is, why is problematic, as well as why it’s really vital we do something about it. We have all become far too comfortable with cheap, disposable clothing and need to know what the issues with our consumerism are and the ways we can make changes that will benefit both ourselves and the planet 🌎🌍🌏 ❤️SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/EmmaTheSarcasticFish Films: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPVT84Lqn5fiB5eUNeext0A 🧡"“The business model of fast fashion is based on consumers’ desire for new clothing to wear. In order to fulfill consumer’s demand, fast fashion brands provide affordable prices and a wide range of clothing that reflects the latest trends. This ends up persuading consumers to buy more items which leads to the issue of overconsumption [...] In recent years, the fashion cycle has steadily decreased as fast fashion retailers sell clothing that is expected to be disposed of after being worn only a few times. This dramatically shortens the consumers’ buying cycle. The quick changing stocks and low price of fashion goods encourage consumers to visit the store and make purchases more frequently. As a result, excessive stock and untrendy clothes tends to end up in landfills." 💛Anna's Video! What Colours Work for You?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49qYQpNjkhg 💚Further Reading! The FAST FASHION trap & how to escape | #whomademyclothes | Justine Leconte

13:38
Fast fashion is a quite recent phenomenon and it has completely changed the fashion industry. Here is my view on what fast fashion is, what the business model behind it is & what you and me can do, as individual consumers, to resist its negative effects and make informed decisions for ourselves. I had a lot to say about it so the video turned out quite long… forgive me! Fashion Factories Undercover (Documentary) - Real Stories

50:20
Check out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY Beyond the crumbling walls of sweatshops we find out the true cost of fashion. It’s April 23rd 2013, a busy commercial building in Dhaka, Bangladesh towers over thousands of workers, many of them children. As they toil away in a cramped sweatshop the force of the eight-storey building collapses on to them, killing more than a 1,000 people and permanently disfiguring a further 2,500. It emerges that this building had been condemned and not fit for purpose, yet many workers were caged for 14-hours a day with no escape. This was not just an unfortunate circumstance but one that could easily have been prevented. Through first-hand eyewitness accounts we will investigate the cause of the collapse and reveal how major international brands have ignored the warnings by continuing to use these unsafe buildings and put profit ahead of safety. Fast Fashion: Sweatshops I the Feed

April 24th marked the first anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh. It was an incident that sparked an international debate about where we source or clothes and our so-called addiction to 'fast fashion'. Fast fashion means more choice for the consumer and more revenue for the retailer. But, what does it mean for everything - and everyone - in between? Why I Won't Buy From H&M! The True Cost of Fast Fashion

17:15
Why I won't buy from H&M! The True Cost + Fast Fashion. I watched the True Cost Documentary and saw all of the horrors of fast fashion industry. I want to bring attention to these horrors and shop at sustainable and ethical fashion brands. Many of the stores that I used to shop at (literally as of 1 week ago) included H&M, urban outfitters, ect. My goal with this video is not to judge people who do shop at these stores, as 99% of my closet comes from fast fashion stores. My goal is to to talk about the "true cost" of shopping at these stores and why it's NOT okay to keep consuming at the level that we currently do. Zara Masters the Art of Retail | The Beast File

03:03
Subscribe for more Hungry Beast: http://bit.ly/HungryBeast Meet Zara: the Spanish company at the forefront of Fast Fashion, where speed and disposability are the new black. Launched in 1975, Zara now has almost 2000 stores in 77 countries. Its parent company, Inditex, turned over $17 billion last year, helping reclusive founder Amancio Ortega -- a railway worker's son -- become the 7th richest man in the world. Zara's HQ is a futuristic building known as "The Cube" in La Coruña, northwestern Spain. From there, staff churn out 30,000 designs a year, near carbon copies of fashion's big names. Lightning-fast, locally-targeted designs are Zara's specialty: when Madonna played three weeks of European concerts in 2001, teenage girls went to her later shows wearing knock-offs of the outfit from her first performance. Zara's 'vertically integrated' business model limits outsourcing, making most of its catwalk copies in-house and ensuring better quality control. When it does use cheap labour, it mostly uses poorer European countries over the developing world. Garments hit shop floors within three weeks of design -- blitzing the industry average of six months. Fashion used to be sold in four seasons. Zara wants you to buy for one-hundred-and-four. New clothes arrive in every store twice a week -- days known by fans as "Z Days" -- and fuel the need to turn over your wardrobe. The brand's global distribution centre, also in Spain, moves 2.5 million items per week. Nothing remains warehoused longer than 72 hours. Clothes are ironed in advance and packed on hangers with security and price tags affixed, saving store staff 'prime selling time'. Records are kept of any clothes tried on but not bought, sent back to Spain along with all cash register data. Customers visit Zara on average six times more often than its competitors, causing rival stores to dread its arrival on their turf. When Zara opened a store in China last year, one industry commentator noted "it just murdered everything around it". And when the doors of Zara's first Australian store opened in Sydney in April, 80% of the stock was snapped up within three minutes. Shoppers might love Zara but fashion's elite are not so happy. One unnamed designer complained "we spend a fortune researching and working up ideas, then Zara comes along and walks off with them for nothing". Zara has achieved global success with almost zero advertising, which its founder calls a "pointless distraction". Zara. Fast, affordable, pre-packaged fashion. A business built on speed, designed for addiction. Despite competition, local fast-fashion brands fight on to globalize

03:01
In this edition of "Industry Insight" -- we talk about fast-fashion brands. Despite tight competition, local "fast-fashion", or S.P.A. brands... fight on to rival their successful foreign counterparts in Korea... as they also try to expand globally. Connie Lee has more. They are the so-called "fast-fashion" brands, or S.P.A. brands, easily seen in Seoul's busy shopping districts. Over the past couple of years in Korea, there's been a growing demand for these... SPA brands-- with both foreign and domestic firms flooding the streets, here in Korea. "I like these kinds of brands because their prices are reasonable, and they have styles that are liked by most people." SPA, short for "specialty retailer of private label apparel"... had a market worth of about 500-billion won in the Korean market, back in 2008,... but has since grown to about 3-trillion won... or about 2-point-8 billion U.S. dollars in 2013. "The SPA brands in Korea are changing the paradigm of the fashion industry in Korea. Before we saw brands more focused on their brand image-- but now it's about the retail store's image and how to meet the exact demands of its customers." SPA brands do it all --from design to manufacturing and retailing -- thus, prices are lower and new items can be produced at a faster rate. "For many of these SPA brand retail stores, there are new items that hit the racks almost weekly. And at this store, new products are apparently delivered every day." Currently, the three biggest SPA brands in Korea are not homemade..... They're Japan's Uniqlo,... one of the first SPA brands to enter Korea in 2005,... Spain's Zara and Sweden's H&M. The local brands, which are latecomers to the SPA world, however, are not afraid to join in on the competition. Retail conglomerate, E-Land Group, which introduced Korea's first SPA brand called Spao in 2009,... currently has more than 10 such brands under its belt. Their aim is global expansion -- first, by conquering Asia. [ ] "We found success with our first stores abroad in China and Japan. So we now plan to increase the number of our SPA brand stores in China to 50 next year. / We have an edge over our foreign competitors because we design and produce according to the specific tastes of our Asian consumers." And back in Korea, the already diluted market of SPA brands is still vied by newcomers from abroad. Canadian label Joe Fresh was recently introduced,... and the UK's popular TopShop are apparently eyeing the market. "Global companies could see Korea as a test-market... as Korean consumers are now recognized as trendsetters and fast-adapters." Connie Lee, Arirang News.

Cheap Ways To Avoid Fast Fashion

26:13
This week (starting 24/04/17) is fashion revolution week. Following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, this week every year has been dedicating to asking #whomademyclothes, asking brands if they're being fair to their workers, and if they are being sustainable as a brand. I thought it would be helpful to come up with three cost effective ways to avoid fast fashion. FAST FASHION REVIEWS & HAULS ARE PROBLEMATIC (esp. Zaful, Romwe, SheIn)

Do videos featuring/reviewing cheap clothing sites like Zaful, Romwe, and SheIn promote fast fashion? Is it problematic? Safiya Nygaard "I Wore $5 Clothes From Romwe For A Week" video - https://youtu.be/LqU9CdPs6ek I SPENT $375 ON ROMWE - AND NOW THEY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED, MY CONSPIRACY WAS RIGHT! by Patricia Bright - https://youtu.be/H2s0lDFK89E HONEST ROMWE TRY-ON HAUL | Jess Conte - https://youtu.be/Dlfiv2CBqZM Today's video is about fast fashion, extremely cheap and "trendy" clothing sites like Zaful, Romwe, SheIn, etc. These companies are based in China and often deliver items that do not meet expectations for quality or style. Many people wonder, is it a scam? Is it worth it? But also what are the ethical issues with supporting companies like these? How can we better promote more sustainable or secondhand clothing options? DESIGNER TRENDS | ZARA HAUL | FAST FASHION SHOW | LIFESTYLE

Some fashion trends in designer fashions will eventually wind up in museums. Todays fast fashion trends featured by many chain stores are disposable and will wind up being destroyed. Why? to persuade you, the consumer, to run to buy the next trend. Let's talk about vintage designers and then about fast fashion like Zara. I do a fashion show featuring my recent fashion purchases from Zara. After reading all that I have about fast fashion, I have changed my mind about buying again from fast fashion stores. BEST HAUL EVER - THE END OF FAST FASHION? | Molly Forbes

05:42
Hey! Did you see the Stacey Dooley documentary about Fast Fashion? If you're based in the UK you can still catch it on iPlayer I think. Anyway, it shook me. I mean, I knew there was a cost to fast fashion and the endless stream of new stuff, but I don't think I'd quite grasped the scale of it. Scary. Anyway, I'm not saying I'll never shop on the high street again (unrealistic) but I am saying I want to shop there less, wear what I have more and - when I need or want something - try to find pre-loved items on sites like eBay and in charity shops. It's so much kinder to the planet. Anyway, check out these amazing gems I found in a local charity shop recently. Winner!!!! See you soon (there'll be a family vlog next so if you're not subbed do so it shows in your feed!). Molly x ** ABOUT ME: Disco queen, turned journalist, turned presenter, turned mum, I live in Devon with my husband and two daughters, Freya and Effie. I like hot cups of tea, cold glasses of wine, pretty cushions and cheese. In another life I believe I was Stevie Nicks or Debbie Harry. My main ambition in life is to become the fourth member of Haim – I’m still waiting for the call. This channel began as a way to document funny family moments and share the realities of parenting - celebrating the bits that don't make it to Instagram. Fast-forward to now and I still share snippets of family life, but these days I mainly vlog about confidence and body image, through sharing little family vlogs and sit-down chatty videos. You'll also find videos about fashion, beauty and interiors with a hefty dose of self-love advice thrown in. **** FOLLOW ME: THE BLOG ~ www.mothersalwaysright.com TWITTER ~ @mollyjforbes INSTAGRAM ~ @mollyjforbes FACEBOOK ~ www.facebook.com/mothersalwaysright

What Is Fast Fashion?

Hey guys, I'm Andréanne and welcome to my channel The Minimal Approach. Earlier on the channel I said I would do a video about why I started to get passionate about sewing. So here it is, today’s video is about fast fashion. First question for you, where are your clothes made ? Second question, as the years go by, do you feel that clothes are getting more expensive every year or are they getting cheaper ? Some brands I love : Patagonia http://www.patagonia.ca/home/ Frame (for jeans) https://www.frame-store.com Betina Lou http://www.betinalou.com Sokoloff https://www.sokolofflingerie.com Stanfield https://www.stanfields.com June swimwear https://juneswimwear.com Tristan (look for suits made in Canada) https://www.tristanstyle.com/en/women/made-in-canada/25/ Some of the sources (I recommend all these youtube videos) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elU32XNj8PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPM9lhackHw&t=919s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r8V4QWwxf0 Movie (on Netflix) The True Cost Song: Ikson - Blue Sky (Vlog No Copyright Music) Music promoted by Vlog No Copyright Music.
