USA: FORBES MAGAZINE ON BILLIONAIRES

01:46
English/Nat A new magazine rich list shows Bill Gates facing tough competition for his place as the world's wealthiest working billionaire. The list, compiled by New York's Forbes magazine, claims the Microsoft founder lost about a third of his fortune over the year, leaving him with a generous 60 (b) billion U-S dollars. Thirteen billion dollars behind him was Oracle Corp founder, Larry Ellison with 47 (b) billion U-S dollars. While that's an enormous amount of money to most people, it's shows the gap between Bill Gates and other billionaires is narrowing; last year Gates was more than 50 (b) billion dollars richer than everyone else. His net worth shrank by a third this past year, but Bill Gates' 60 (b) billion U-S dollar bankroll is still big enough to make him the world's richest man. That's according to Forbes magazine which does its best to rank the world's richest every year. The gap between the Microsoft chief and his challengers is narrowing because of the booms and busts of the high-tech world he helped create. The world's billionaires club expanded by five this year to 470. The combined wealth of the richest 200 working people in the world climbed to more than 1.1 (t) trillion U-S dollars - that's up 100 (b) billion U-S dollars from last year. The rankings appear in the July 3 issue of Forbes, which reaches newsstands on Friday, 16 June. This is Forbes magazine's 14th annual list of the working rich. After Bill Gates came Oracle Corp founder Larry Ellison as second richest with 47 (b) U- S dollars. That's a massive jump from his 30th ranking last year when he was estimated to be worth $9.5 (b) billion U-S dollars. Ellison is followed by Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, with 28 (b) billion U-S dollars. The magazine said stock market fluctuations were behind many of the changes in the rankings for the year 2000. After reaching nearly 120 U-S dollars per share late last year, Microsoft dropped as low as 60 U-S dollars a share last month during the government's antitrust challenge. Oracle stock has been up as much as 500 percent. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Also, more billionaires in India than ever before. A lot of what's going on in the software industry in India has created several new billionaires there. And, a couple of new billionaires in Saudi Arabia, and, surprisingly given that Japan's economy is in the dumps, altogether fourteen new billionaires in Japan. And not just in the tech sector, but, you know, billionaires in Japan selling medical beds, or having chains of eyeglasses, I mean, all kinds of stuff you would never think would perhaps create billion- dollar fortunes." SUPER CAPTION: Kerry Dolan, Billionaire List Editor, Forbes Warrent Buffett slipped from 2nd place last year to fourth this year, with 28 (b) billion U- S dollars. There was a three-way tie for number five: German retailers Theo and Karl Albrecht; Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud of Saudi Arabia, a global investor; and S. Robson Walton, whose family started Wal-Mart, at 20 (b) billion U-S dollars each. Several other Walton heirs also are billionaires but are not included in the working rich list because they are no longer active in the business. Japanese software magnate, Masayoshi Son, was ranked eighth with 19.4 (b) billion U- S dollars, well below his 68.5 (b) billion peak reached in mid-February. Michael Dell, founder of Dell Computer Corp., was ranked number nine with 17.8 (b) billion U-S dollars, followed by Canadian media magnate Kenneth Thomson of Thomson Corp with 16.1 (b) billion. Five of the top 10 working rich - Gates, Allen, Prince Alwaleed, Son and Dell - are 47 or younger. She was ranked number 31. The magazine says Jay Z upped his worth from $810 million (USD) to $900 million in the past year. That jump is due to the increase in value of his interests in a champagne and cognac company and ownership stakes in Roc Nation and the Tidal streaming service. Diddy, who dropped to second place, also increased his fortune in the past year by just $5 million, thanks to growth in DeLeon tequila, a brand he owns. Dr Dre ranked third with $770 million largely due to his stock in Apple. Apple also purchased his headphone and speaker company Beats in 2014. Drake and Eminem follow but with far less, at $100 million apiece. SOUNDBITE: (English): Steve Forbes, Publisher, Forbes Magazine: (NOTE - AUDIO BUZZ RECORDED AT SOURCE) "2005 was an extraordinary year. There are 793 global billionaires, up from a total of 691 in 2004. There are 114 new individuals. Of those 793 billionaires, 452 are what we call self-made, they did it on their own, unlike for example my brother and myself, they did not pick parents who already owned a successful business." 6. Cutaway reporters at press briefing 7. SOUNDBITE: (English): Steve Forbes, Publisher, Forbes Magazine: (NOTE - AUDIO BUZZ RECORDED AT SOURCE) "Going around the world, the United States added a net of 30 new billionaires to 371, 44 new faces. India, no surprise, has ten new billionaires. China has gone from two billionaires to eight billionaires, and Russia, 27 billionaires in 2004 to 33 billionaires in 2005." 8. Wide shot press conference 9. SOUNDBITE: (English): Steve Forbes, Publisher, Forbes Magazine: (NOTE - AUDIO BUZZ RECORDED AT SOURCE) "Why is the list growing? The answer is an obvious one, the global economy is growing. In the last two years, the global economy has grown at growth rates not seen since the end of the second World War." 10. Zoom out to show cover of magazine with billionaires on cover STORYLINE: As emerging stock markets surged during the past year, 102 wealthy people around the world won a much-coveted title along with their stellar gains - they all became billionaires. The number of billionaires around the world rose by 102 to a record 793 over the past year, and their combined wealth grew 18 percent to 2.6 (t) trillion US dollars, according to Forbes magazine's 2006 rankings of the world's richest people. Forbes publisher, Steve Forbes said the list continues to grow "because the global economy is growing" with growth rates not seen since the "end of the second World War". "Going around the world, the United States added a net of 30 new billionaires to 371, 44 new faces. India, no surprise, has ten new billionaires. China has gone from two billionaires to eight billionaires, and Russia, 27 billionaires in 2004 to 33 billionaires in 2005." Forbes said. The growth in emerging markets meant the Czech Republic placed a billionaire on the list for the first time: Petr Kellner, who debuted at No. 224 with three (b) billion US dollars. And while China's market grew just three percent, the country added eight more billionaires, up from two last year. Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates was again the world's richest man for the 12th year running. Gates grew wealthier, with his net worth rising to 50 (b) billion US dollars from 46.5 (b) billion US dollars. Investor Warren Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., again ranked second; his fortune fell by two (b) billion US dollars to 42 (b) billion US dollars. The rest of the top 10 underwent a major reshuffling, with three familiar names dropping out of that select group: German supermarket company owner Karl Albrecht, Oracle Corp.'s Lawrence Ellison and Wal-Mart chairman S. Robson Walton. Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu moved up one notch to No. 3 with 30 (b) billion US dollars replacing Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who fell one place to No. 5 with 23.5 (b) billion US dollars Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad of Sweden rose two slots to No. 4 with 28 (b) billion US dollars. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen edged up to sixth place from No. 7, with a net worth of 22 (b) billion US dollars. France's Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive of LVMH and The Christian Dior Group was next with 21.5 (b) billion US dollars: Arnault was new to the top 10. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Rodrigo Esparza, Mexico's Federal Police Commissioner: "We have no idea of how that magazine came to that conclusion. We do not know what their sources of information are, or what methodology they use to link people involved in drug trafficking with people that are involved in the business world, in legal activities. We have no idea." FILE: Date and location unknown 8. Various of "wanted" poster with pictures of Guzman STORYLINE: Mexico is decrying Forbes Magazine's decision to include the reputed leader of one of the country's most violent drug cartels on its list of billionaires. Forbes ranks Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, with an estimated one (b) billion (US) dollar fortune, at number 171 - between a Swiss oil-trading tycoon and an American chemical heir. Guzman, whose nickname "El Chapo" refers to his short, stocky build, is believed to head the Sinaloa cartel. President Felipe Calderon said on Thursday that "magazines are not only attacking and lying about the situation in Mexico but are also praising criminals." It is unclear what Guzman thinks of the distinction. Forbes senior editor Luisa Kroll noted that "unfortunately ... Guzman could not be reached for comment." Often described as Mexico's most powerful cartel kingpin, Guzman has been on the run with a five (m) million US dollar reward on his head since 2001, when he escaped from prison apparently hidden in a laundry truck. At the time, he was serving more than 20 years for criminal association and bribery. Mexican officials say he leads the Sinaloa drug gang, though Guzman has never been convicted on drug trafficking charges. The 54-year-old is not the first drug trafficker to make the list; Forbes says Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar was once included, before dying in a shootout with the South American nation's security forces in 1993. Forbes cited estimates that Guzman and his operation likely grossed 20 percent of the 18 (b) billion to 39 (b) billion (US) dollars in drug revenues that Mexican and Colombian traffickers laundered last year. It said that was "enough for him to have pocketed one (b) billion over his career and earn a spot on the billionaires list for the first time." Forbes described the figure as a "conservative estimate". Kim Kardashian 'opens up' before Forbes Women's Summit

02:00
(14 Jun 2017) KIM KARDASHIAN WEST GETS PERSONAL BEFORE TAKING FORBES WOMAN'S SUMMIT STAGE Kim Kardashian West admits that she's made some mistakes in her life, but the important lesson is not to repeat them. The reality show star was one of the keynote speakers at the annual Forbes Women's Summit, where she spoke of her growing brand, how the robbery in Paris has changed her life, and husband Kanye West's photographic ability, or lack thereof. Before taking the stage, the reality star spoke to the Associated Press about being chosen by Forbes for its cover last year and a tweet she sent out in response. "Yeah, it's such a proud moment, I mean, to even be in the same sentence as one of the Forbes lists," Kardashian West said. After appearing on the cover, she tweeted out, "Not bad for a girl with no talent." Kardashian West explains she didn't want to "boast" about being on the cover, she simply wanted to have fun with it. "We've built this brand, and I'm so proud of it. For everyone saying I have no talent, you know, I think I wrote, 'Not bad for a girl with no talent.'" With more combined 180 million followers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, Kardashian-West has mastered each platform for maximum exposure for her brand. "The most important thing is being authentic, and listening." But with that much exposure comes a great deal of responsibility, especially when many of your followers are teenage girls. As a role model, Kardashian-West hopes her work ethic and ability to learn from past mistakes serves as a valuable message. "I obviously have made my fair share of mistakes like everyone else, but I hope to never repeat those mistakes, and just learn from what I've done. So if people, or young girls, or kids can look up to just someone that works really hard, and focuses on really what I want, and makes that happen, then you know I hope that inspires them." "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" has exposed the private side of a family struggles into the public forum. Her former brother-in law Lamar Odom nearly died after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, her brother Rob's issues with weight and depression, and sister Kourtney's tenuous relationship with Scott Disick. Then there's family tension after revelations in Caitlyn Jenner's book, where Kim came to her mother Kris Jenner's defense. And the terrifying armed robbery in Paris where Kim was held at gunpoint. Thieves got away with more than $10 million dollars in jewelry. But with that much social media exposure, there's also going to be a lot of negative comments, and Kardashian West admits that hurtful comments bother her. "Absolutely it affects me... there could be one or two negative comments that really do affect you, and get to you. You know I'm human just like everyone else. Like things do hurt my feelings, but I think that I do have a really thick skin." She is more concerned that people, young and old, are victims of the same online bullying tactics. "They have this keyboard courage that no one will see them and they will just write whatever and hurt you feelings. I know I can handle it, but I just fear for - I do see why young kids and people and teenagers, even get, you so hurt and bothered. That is what really bothers me." But it's her family that provides the strength to deal with it. She attributes that trait to her late father, Robert Kardashian. She continued: On stage, she told interviewer Steve Forbes joked about her husband, and the struggle of maintaining a successful social media presence. She cited a recent trip to Japan where she wanted him to take pictures of the trip to show her followers. "It was such a mess. He was just not the best photographer," she told Forbes. But, we are supremely confident that the Russian authorities, and I have been personally assured in my conversation with Vladimir Vasilevich (Ustinov, general prosecutor), will do everything they can to bring the murders to justice." 6. Media 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Klebnikov, brother of Paul Klebnikov: "The many unsolved murders, of course we are aware of them, but we are confident that in such a high profile instance we think this is a wonderful opportunity for the Russian government to show the world that it has turned the corner and we think that they have every incentive to demonstrate their competence and their interest in solving this case quickly." 8. Journalists at news conference 9. Presser STORYLINE: The brothers of an American journalist gunned down on a Moscow street called on Russian authorities on Wednesday to put a full effort into investigating the killing and to show the country is overcoming its reputation for violence. Michael and Peter Klebnikov made the statement hours before a memorial service for their brother Paul, the editor of Forbes magazine's Russian edition, in the Russian capital's showpiece Christ the Saviour cathedral. Klebnikov, 41, was shot on Friday night as he walked from his office to a subway station. The killing undermined Russia's image of recovering from the violence that broke out in the business world in the economic chaos of the post-Soviet 1990s. Russian officials say they have turned over the investigation to a top-priority unit, but Russia has shown comparatively low success in solving prominent murder cases. Speculation on the motive behind the killing has focused on Paul Klebnikov's writing about the often-murky world of Russian business, and especially on the magazine's publication this spring of a list of the country's 100 richest people, which could have drawn unwanted attention to people sensitive about their wealth. However Michael Klebnikov said his brother given no indication that he was in any danger. FILE - July 10, 2004 9. File of assassination site of Paul Klebnikov STORYLINE A preliminary hearing in the trial of the alleged killers of US journalist Paul Klebnikov opened in the Moscow City Court on Tuesday. The trial of Kazbek Dukuzov and Musa Vakhayev, both ethnic Chechens, was to take place behind closed doors. Tuesday's hearing was to determine when the trial will start and whether it will involve a jury, the RIA-Novosti news agency quoted court spokeswoman Anna Usacheva as saying. Klebnikov, the editor of Forbes magazine's Russian edition, was gunned down outside the magazine's Moscow offices on July 9, 2004. Prosecutors allege the killing was ordered by another Chechen, Khozh-Akhmed Nukhayev, who was the subject of a critical book by Klebnikov called "Conversations with a Barbarian." Nukhayev and two other Chechens are wanted in connection with the killing. Some observers have suggested, however, that anger over Klebnikov's work for the magazine was most likely the motive for the killing, saying Klebnikov had been investigating the still-murky post-Soviet business world. World's highest-paid country star is Garth Brooks, according to Forbes

05:31
(11 Jul 2017) WORLD'S HIGHEST-PAID COUNTRY STAR IS GARTH BROOKS, ACCORDING TO FORBES Garth Brooks is the world's highest-paid country music star, with earnings of $60 million in 2017, according to U.S. business magazine Forbes. Most of the King of Country's income is from playing live: his comeback tour began in 2014 and is still going strong after 300 dates. Brooks often plays multiple arena shows in a single day. Second on the list is Kenny Chesney, who raked in a total of $42.5 million. He fills stadiums around the U.S. and takes advantage of deals with brands from Apple to Corona, as well as his own rum, Blue Chair Bay. Luke Bryan follows closely behind him with $42 million. He has high-grossing tours, plus Outdoor Channel reality show "Buck Commander," named after the company he co-owns with Willie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty." Septuagenarian star Dolly Parton played 63 dates during the scoring period, grossing six figures per city. Her Dollywood theme park and publishing paychecks take her earnings to a healthy $37 million. Tying for fifth place are Toby Keith and country pop duo Florida Georgia Line, who both scored $34.5 million. The top ten country cash kings earned a total of $366 million this year, down from $393 million last year. To come up with the list, Forbes evaluated touring numbers from Pollstar and record sales data from Nielsen, while performing independent research on outside business ventures and endorsement deals. Their estimates represent pretax income from June 1, 2016 through June 1, 2017; fees for managers, agents and lawyers are not deducted. The top earners are as follows: 1. Garth Brooks, $60 million 2. Kenny Chesney, $42.5 million 3. Luke Bryan, $42 million 4. Dolly Parton, $37 million 5. Toby Keith, $34.5 million (tie) 5. Two bordering states in these United States. Both in the Upper Midwest. Both get very, very, very, very cold in the winter. And are still pretty cold in early spring and late fall as well. But the summers in both states are nice. Except for the crazy terrorist mosquitoes. But yeah, both have humid continental climates. Wisconsin gets a bit more precipitation, though. Both are great. And Great Lakes states. Minnesota borders Lake Superior. Ah, but Wisconsin borders Lake Superior AND Lake Michigan, so does that MAKE it superior? But yeah, both states don’t ever have to worry about having enough access to fresh water. Both have similar populations, although Minnesota is growing at a faster rate. Both states are more heavily populated in the southern portion of the state, with large areas of wilderness covering the northern portions. However, Wisconsin’s population is a bit more spread out throughout the state. About 2/3 of the population of Minnesota lives in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Both have similar size economies. Minnesota’s GDP per capita is higher than Wisconsin’s though. Since the Great Recession, the economies of the two states have been compared a lot, and while there is a debate about the “why,” there is no doubt Minnesota’s economy has grown more. According to Forbes magazine, Minnesota is a better state for business, but both have similar unemployment rates and projected job growth. Wisconsin’s biggest industries include manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare. And yep, it holds true to its stereotype. It’s the biggest producer of cheese in the country. Boy do they take their cheese seriously. Like, really seriously. There are cheese snobs everywhere man. Anyway, Minnesota’s biggest industries are also manufacturing and agriculture, but also professional and business services. The biggest religion in both states is...you guessed it...Christianity. Minnesota appears to be a bit more religious than Wisconsin. Both states have low crime compared to the rest of the country. You know, because they’re too cold to commit crime there. The majority of residents from both states have ancestors from Europe. While humans have lived in both areas for thousands of years, the first Europeans to settle both were the French.

Wide shot STORYLINE: A senior US diplomat wed one of Mexico''s richest businesswomen in a small, private weekend religious ceremony. US Embassy spokesman Jim Dickmeyer said Ambassador Tony Garza and Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala exchanged vows on Saturday at a Roman Catholic church in the Mexico City area. The nuptial Mass lasted about 45 minutes and was attended by about 40 family members and close friends, Dickmeyer said. Maria Francisca Tames, a spokeswoman for Aramburuzabala, said the ceremony wasn''t legally binding, but that the two were planning a civil ceremony within the next two months that would be a larger event. In Mexico, a civil ceremony is required to be legally married in Mexico, and many couples have two wedding dates: one at a church, and another with a judge. Tames said no date or location had been chosen yet, but that the two were thinking about having the civil ceremony at the beach and were looking at the resorts of Acapulco and Ixtapa. Aramburuzabala, 41, is vice chairwoman of Grupo Modelo, the maker of Corona and Negra Modelo beers. With an estimate fortune of US$1.5 billion (1.13 billion), she was ranked 377th among the world''s billionaires, Forbes magazine reported last year. Garza, 45, a second-generation American whose four grandparents were from Mexico, was appointed ambassador in 2002 by U.S. President George W. Bush. Sanders: Trump Was Joking About Tillerson's IQ

(10 Oct 2017) The White House says President Donald Trump was joking when he appeared to question his secretary of state's intelligence. Trump said in an interview published Tuesday in Forbes magazine that if Rex Tillerson did call him a moron, as has been reported, the two should "compare IQ tests." "And I can tell you who is going to win," Trump added. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Tuesday that the president "never implied that the secretary of state was not incredibly intelligent." She says: "He made a joke, no more than that." She also says the president has "100 percent confidence" in Tillerson. She said reporters "should get a sense of humor." Sanders also commented on the growing spat between Trump and Tennesee Sen. Bob Corker. Corker has said that Trujmp is threatening to start World War III with his rhetoric toward North Korea. Sanders said Tuesday, "Senator Corker is certainly entitled to his own opinion but he's not entitled to his own facts." She added that Trump, has been an "incredibly strong leader on foreign policy and national security." George Clooney tops Forbes' highest-paid actors list

01:37
(23 Aug 2018) GEORGE CLOONEY TOPS FORBES' HIGHEST-PAID ACTORS LIST George Clooney can raise a glass, even if he's not starring in any hit movies. The 57-year-old tops the 2018 Forbes' list of highest-paid actors with $239 million in pretax earnings. Forbes credits up to $1 billion that a British conglomerate said it would pay for Casamigos Tequila, which Clooney co-founded in 2013 with two entrepreneurs. The actor's wealth also includes additional earnings from endorsements and older movies. The rankings include on-screen and outside earnings. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ranked second with $124 million pretax. Forbes says a huge social media following helped Johnson nearly double his 2017 earnings because he's able to negotiate an extra seven figures over his standard contract for promotion. Robert Downey Jr. was third with $81 million, followed by Chris Hemsworth with $64.5 million and Jackie Chan's $45.5 million. That's a stage moving way form the shadow economy, moving away from well say, black market type of mentality towards a more civilised, transparent, open form of capitalism." 10. Various of Klebnikov at the launch of Forbes Magazine Russian edition STORYLINE: The American editor of the Russian edition of Forbes Magazine and author of a book about tycoon Boris Berezovsky was shot dead on Friday. Paul Klebnikov, 41, was hit four times outside the magazine's office and died in a rescue-squad vehicle, Russian news reports said. Shells of two different calibre were reportedly found at the scene, indicating at least two assailants. Police could not be reached for comment, but the killing was confirmed in a statement by Forbes publisher Steve Forbes. A statement said "Paul was a superb reporter - courageous, dedicated, ever-curious. " It went on to say that Klebnikov "knew Russia well. It was a country he deeply loved." Alexander Gordeyev, editor of the Russian edition of Newsweek magazine, which has offices in the same building, said he came to Klebnikov's side as he lay outside the building. He was still conscious and able to speak, "but he couldn't say anything about what could have been the cause of the attack," Gordeyev told The Associated Press. The Interfax news agency quoted Leonid Bershidsky, the publisher of Russian Forbes and Newsweek, as saying that Klebnikov "had not dug up anything sensitive" recently. Forbes started its Russian-language edition in April (2004). Klebnikov, US-born of Russian heritage, had previously been a senior editor with the US-based Forbes. In May, the magazine attracted wide attention by publishing a list of Russia's wealthiest people, claiming that Moscow had more billionaires who worked there or amassed their fortunes there than any other city in the world. "Here people fly and fall with staggering speed," Klebnikov said at a news conference when the list was released. His 2000 book "Godfather of the Kremlin: Boris Berezovsky and the Looting of Russia" described how Berezovsky, now living in exile in Britain, allegedly siphoned hundreds of millions of dollars out of Russia. After Klebnikov wrote a profile of Berezovsky for Forbes in 1996, Berezovsky filed a libel suit against the magazine in Britain. He withdrew the suit in 2003 after the publication acknowledged it was wrong to allege he was involved in the murder of a television personality. Klebnikov was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the London School of Economics. STORYLINE: A Moscow jury on Friday acquitted two ethnic Chechens accused of murdering US journalist Paul Klebnikov on a Moscow street almost two years ago. Klebnikov, a 41-year-old New Yorker of Russian descent and the Forbes Russian edition editor, was shot to death outside the Forbes office in Moscow in July 2004. The victim''s family said they were distressed but called on Russia to investigate his killing "with renewed vigour." Klebnikov had investigated corruption and sought to shed light on the closed, sometimes violent world of Russian business. Dozens of relatives and friends of the acquitted defendants, Kazbek Dukuzov, 32, Musa Vakhayev, 42, burst into cheers, applause and tears of relief outside the courtroom. "We are grateful for the just verdict," Dukuzov said before getting into a car. Paul Klebnikov''s brother Michael said the family is very distressed that his brother''s killers are still at large. He said that judging by information from the family''s lawyers and an independent assessment by a U.S. Justice Department specialist, the evidence against the defendants was circumstantial but strong enough to produce a conviction. The lawyer representing Paul Khlebnikov''s family, Larisa Maslennikova said, "... we respect the decision of the court and we will not comment on it. Otherwise, there would have been no respect for judiciary." Dukuzov''s lawyer said eight jurors favoured acquittal and four were opposed. Prosecutor Dmitry Shokhin said that the state might appeal the verdict, which he said was influenced by "gross violations" of procedural legislation. Under Russian law, acquittals can be appealed. Prosecutors claimed the defendants killed Klebnikov on behalf of Khozh-Akhmed Nukhayev, a Chechen separatist figure who was the subject of a critical book by Klebnikov and remains at large. The US government and Klebnikov''s family, whose roots are in Russia, have urged prosecutors to thoroughly investigate all angles and stressed the need to bring those behind the killing to justice - not just those who carried it out. Wide of Forbes news conference STORYLINE: A Chinese dumpling maker and Mexican telecommunications mogul are among a record number of wealthy people who have held the title of billionaire over the past year. The tally of billionaires around the globe reached a high of 946, their combined wealth growing 35 percent to 3.5 (t) trillion US dollars, according to Forbes magazine's 2007 rankings of the world's richest people. The rich cashed in on strong equity markets, real estate and commodity prices worldwide, according to Forbes billionaires editors. According to Steve Forbes, Editor in Chief of the magazine, "this is the richest year ever in human history." "In the last five years if you take the growth of the global economy between say 9-11 from 2001 and five years later, despite all of the turmoil in the world all of the conflict in the world the global economy, in real terms, expanded over 25 percent," said Forbes. Leading the list are two men who manage to keep getting richer as they give more and more money away. Microsoft founder Bill Gates ranked No. 1 for the 13th straight year, ahead of his friend and fellow philanthropist Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated. Gates's fortune rose six (b) billion US dollars to 56 (b) billion US dollars last year, while Buffett garnered in an additional 10 (b) billion US dollars to boost his net worth to 52 (b) billion US dollars. Only five Americans ranked in the top 20, though they account for 44 percent of the overall list. Breathing down Buffett's neck was Mexican telecom giant Carlos Slim Helu, who added 19 (b) billion US dollars to his existing fortune, the largest one-year gain over the past decade. With 49 (b) billion US dollars to his name, Helu was just three (b) billion US dollars shy of the No. 2 spot. "Coronation Box" valued between 1 and 2 (m) million (US) dollars STORYLINE: Sotheby's auction house on Thursday displayed the world's largest private collection of Faberge Imperial Easter Eggs and other creations from the famous Russian craft maker ahead of an auction which will fetch an estimated 90 (m) million US dollars. The eggs, considered a standard for rare treasures, were first commissioned by Russian Tsar Alexander III from the House of Faberge master crafters in 1885 as Easter gifts for his wife, Tsarina Maria Feodorovna. The tradition continued for 30 years in the Romanov imperial family. The eggs to be sold come from the collection of the family of Malcolm Forbes, the late publisher of Forbes Magazine. Sotheby's auction house said the nine eggs and 180 other Faberge pieces from the collection would be offered at auction in New York on April 20 and 21. A pre-sale public exhibition opens on April 12. The highlight of April's auction will be the Coronation Egg, considered one of the most valuable objects made by Faberge. It was commissioned by Nicholas II after he was crowned in Moscow to present to his Tsarina on Easter in 1897. There are 50 Imperial Easter Eggs in the world, including the nine owned by the Forbes family. There are 10 in the Moscow Kremlin Collection, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the United States has five and Britain's Queen Elizabeth owns three. The others are in the United States, Switzerland and Monaco, but eight are unaccounted for, Sotheby's said. Forbes, publisher of Forbes Magazine, collected the Imperial eggs and other objects made by the House of Faberge. They have been displayed at Forbes Galleries and shows worldwide since his death 14 years ago. The last Faberge Imperial egg to go on auction was sold for 9.57 (m) million US dollars at Christie's auction house in April 2002, a Sotheby's spokesman said. USA: PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL STEVE FORBES SPEECH

02:25
English/Nat Republican presidential hopeful, Steve Forbes, has made a pitch for support from the U-S Christian Coalition at the organisation's conference in Washington. Forbes is the latest in a succession of potential presidential candidates canvassing for the endorsement of the group's two (m) million members. His speech on Saturday followed Friday's appeals to the Christian Coalition by George Bush Junior and Elizabeth Dole. With his family by his side, Steve Forbes received a warm welcome from the Christian Coalition in Washington on Saturday. The Republican presidential candidate is hoping to increase his profile by winning the support of the 3-thousand-500 delegates at this two-day "Road to Victory" conference. He wants to capitalise on Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson's claim that the group is being rejuvenated by conservative disgust with President Bill Clinton. To a howl of approval, Forbes rallied the conference against Clinton. SOUNDBITE: (English) "As you know the clock is ticking. In 477 days Bill Clinton will no longer be President of the United States." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Forbes flexed his financial muscle by lambasting the present U-S taxation system, which he wants to reform. If elected, he also plans radical changes to U-S relations with international financial institutions. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Let me be blunt about the IMF (International Monetary Fund). If and when I become President, it's going to Jurassic Park." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Forbes also took a swipe at Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, who gave an interview to Playboy magazine saying organised religion was a "sham". SOUNDBITE: (English) "You may have heard the explanation from the Governor that when he attacked what he called organised religion, allegedly he was angry they were standing in the way of legalised prostitution. Now, here we have the American people grappling with first principles and Jesse Ventura is worried about legalised prostitution. It makes you wonder if organised wrestling should require participants in the future to wear protective helmets." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Testimony to the Christian Coalition's lingering power is the fact that its conference has drawn six of this season's eight Republican presidential candidates. Forbes said he was ready to take on his rivals for the nomination. SOUNDBITE: (English) "George W. Bush, it's time to debate. No more ducking, no more dodging, no more waffling. I call for five debates, several hours each, substantive debates so the American people can see what we believe, why we believe it and most important, or just as important, who will have the backbone, the courage, the determination to make positive things happen and not go along with the Beltway flow." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Apart from Forbes, George Bush Junior and Elizabeth Dole, Gary Bauer, Alan Keyes and Orrin Hatch have all appeared at the Christian Coalition conference in the past two days. Mid pull out of Julia Roberts KIDMAN BOTTOM DOLLAR AT BOX OFFICE When it comes to value for money - Nicole Kidman is bottom dollar. She's ranked last in a new survey by Forbes magazine which calculated which stars are worth their huge fee when it comes to how much their movies make at the box office. New mum Nicole is at number 35 - despite high-paying roles in films like 'The Golden Compass', 'The Invasion' and 'Bewitched' she only averaged $1.01 of gross income for studios for every dollar she cost to appear. The Ultimate Star Payback list was complied by looking at the stars' last three films that opened wide in at least 1,000 theatres before 2008 and were made in the last five years. It calculated the gross income for each film by adding half the worldwide box office and the first three months of wholesale DVD revenues and then subtracting its budget. The gross income was divided by the actor's total compensation to derive his or her payback for the movie. At the other end of the scale from Kidman - Vince Vaughn provided the best bang for his buck. He raked in $14.73 of gross income for studios for every dollar he was paid for 'The Break-up,' 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Dodgeball'. Forbes says that's because "until recently his salary was relatively low, and the films he was in, like `Wedding Crashers' and `The Break-up,' had modest budgets yet did extremely well at the box office worldwide". Below Vince - Tobey Maguire ranked No. 2 on the list, with a gross income return of $13.44 for each dollar of his pay for the 'Spider-Man' sequels and 'Seabiscuit'. Julia Roberts was in third place with a gross income return of $13.19. Making up the rest of the top ten - Brad Pitt ranked fourth with $12.73, followed by Naomi Watts and Matt Damon ($12.16 each), George Clooney ($11.56), Jennifer Aniston ($10.48), Hugh Jackman ($9.90) and Ben Stiller ($9.50). The survey is in a special entertainment edition of Forbes magazine - which is out now. Dwayne Johnson tops Forbes' list of highest paid actors

02:09
(25 Aug 2016) DWAYNE JOHNSON TOPS FORBES' LIST OF HIGHEST PAID ACTORS Dwayne Johnson elbowed Robert Downey Jr. aside to become the highest-paid actor with a fast and furious income of $64.5 million, according to Forbes magazine. The former wrestler beat out Jackie Chan with $61 million and Matt Damon, who earned $55 million. The rest of the top five on the list, released Thursday, included Tom Cruise with $53 million and Johnny Depp with $48 million. The top guys make more money than the top ladies. Forbes' list of the highest-paid actresses, released earlier this week, put Jennifer Lawrence on top with $46 million, Melissa McCarthy with $33 million and Scarlett Johansson with $25 million. All the data is from between June 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016, before fees and taxes. USA: REPUBLICAN STEVE FORBES PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY CAMPAIGN

02:25
English/Nat The second US presidential primary has been taking place in the state of Delaware. But the turnout's been low as only one of the major presidential hopefuls -- Republican Steve Forbes -- has been campaigning there. The others didn't want to offend New Hampshire officials who want a one-week cushion between its primary and any other election. A recent poll puts Forbes in third place in the Republican contest, behind Bob Dole and Pat Buchanan. This was millionaire Steve Forbes' turn to take centre-stage with two of America's key conservative forces. He was the lone candidate on hand in Washington before the Conservative Political Action Conference -- C-P-A-C -- and its sister group the American Conservative Union. Both groups raise millions of dollars for conservative causes and candidates of choice. They helped to launch the Reagan revolution of the 1980s. They represent a powerful and influential block among conservatives that Steve Forbes hopes to score points with. And despite his poor showing in Iowa and New Hampshire, he's telling them that the race isn't over. SOUNDBITE: "They said that I'd remain an asterisk in this race. That the message couldn't get through the clutter. Well the message is more powerful than the messenger. The message is more powerful than any candidate of campaign. The message is why I'm running today and why I have no intention of quitting this race. I'm in for the duration." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes It was also a chance to take a knife to the politics of Pat Buchanan. He's the man now seen as Forbes' chief rival in the race, and the same man who stole the limelight from Forbes and former frontrunner Bob Dole in Iowa and New Hampshire. SOUNDBITE: "There is another direction that says America can't compete in the world anymore; doesn't have faith that we can hack it in the world anymore; that we have to hide behind walls, raise tariffs, and remember -- tariffs are taxes, tariffs are taxes; that we have to turn our backs to the world, sort of a bunker mentality. I don't believe in that kind of America. I have faith in the American people to compete against anyone." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes With millions of dollars more to spend on the campaign than Buchanan and Dole combined, Forbes says he's determined to compete for the heart and soul of mainstream conservatives in the Republican party. Various of Paul Klebnikov presenting Russian version of "Forbes" magazine STORYLINE: A Russian court on Saturday acquitted two men accused of murdering US journalist and Forbes Russian edition editor Paul Klebnikov, and prosecutors said they would appeal the verdict. The Moscow City Court''s verdict followed a jury vote on Friday to acquit ethnic Chechen Kazbek Dukuzov, Musa Vakhayev and Fail Sadretdinov in the killing of Klebnikov. Prosecutor Dmitry Shokhin told reporters that he would appeal the verdict to Russia''s Supreme Court on "flagrant procedural violations." Dukuzov''s lawyer Igor Korotkov said eight jurors favoured acquittal and four were opposed. Ruslan Zakolyuzhniy, the lawyer representing Fail Sadretdinov said, "I believe this verdict is just, lawful and justified. It completely corresponds with the yesterday''s (Friday''s) jury vote. We expected such a verdict." Relatives and friends of the defendants met the verdict with cheers, applause and tears of relief outside the courtroom. Klebnikov, a 41-year-old New Yorker of Russian descent, was fatally shot on the street outside the Forbes office in Moscow in July 2004. The high-profile slaying raised questions about who would want to kill Klebnikov, a journalist and author who investigated corruption and sought to shed light on the closed, sometimes violent world of Russian business. The US State Department and Klebnikov''s family urged the Russian government to continue its investigation with renewed vigour after the acquittal. Prominent Russian journalist and Chechnya war critic found dead

00:29
SHOTLIST 1. Wide shot of Anna Politkovskaya speaking on stage 2. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Anna Politkovskaya, Author and Commentator on recent Chechen Wars: ''The situation has not changed (in Chechnya). The people there have no human rights, like wild animals. In this type of situation without even the most basic rights, people cannot avoid behaving like animals. Even beasts have more rights than they do, and so now people are turning into animals.'' 3. Wide pan of demonstration STORYLINE: A prominent Russian journalist famous for her critical coverage of the war in Chechnya was killed Saturday in Moscow, police and prosecutors said. Anna Politkovskaya was found dead in an elevator in a Moscow apartment building, a duty officer at a central Moscow police station told The Associated Press. She had been shot to death, and a pistol and four bullets were found nearby, the Interfax news agency reported, citing police officials. The slaying took place at about 4:30 p.m. (1130 GMT) in Politkovskaya's apartment building, Dmitry Muratov, editor in chief of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper where she worked, told Ekho Moskvy radio. Politkovskaya, a tireless investigative reporter and highly respected journalist, has chronicled the killings, tortures and beatings of civilians by Russian servicemen in reports that put her on a collision course with the authorities. She wrote a book critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his campaign in Chechnya, documenting widespread abuse of civilians by government troops. In 2001, she fled to Vienna, Austria, for several months after receiving e-mail threats alleging that a Russian police officer she had accused of committing atrocities against civilians was intent on revenge. Police officer Sergei Lapin was detained in 2002 based on Politkovskaya's allegations but the case against him was closed the following year. Politkovskaya began reporting on Chechnya in 1999 during Russia's second military campaign there, concentrating less on military engagements than on the human side of the war. She wrote about the Chechen inhabitants of refugee camps and wounded Russian soldiers - until she was banned from visiting the hospitals, Panfilov said. In 2004, she fell seriously ill with symptoms of food poisoning after drinking tea on a flight from Moscow to southern Russia during the school hostage crisis in Beslan, where many thought she was heading to mediate the crisis. Her colleagues suspected the incident was an attempt on her life. She had been one of the few people to enter the Moscow theater where Chechen militants seized hundreds of hostages in October 2002 to try negotiating with the rebels. Politkovskaya's murder is the highest-profile killing of a journalist in Russia since they July 2004 slaying of Paul Klebnikov, editor of the Russian edition of Forbes magazine. USA: REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE STEVE FORBES CAMPAIGN

02:36
English/Nat Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes has taken his message of conservative family values into Iowa. Accompanied by a large media contingent Forbes travelled by his own coach through the state capital and surrounding area. With less than a week until the Iowa caucus, the man who was once considered only a political afterthought is being taken seriously. The Steve Forbes campaign bandwagon thundered across the frozen Iowa plains on Wednesday. His campaign has already cost 18 (m) million dollars - much of it from his own personal fortune. The campaign's cornerstone is a flat tax. And it's that flat tax message which seems to be striking a chord with voters, propelling the publishing magnate to the top of many polls in Iowa and putting the frighteners on other candidates. Forbes's first foray into politics is attracting throngs of media and the curious alike to far flung farming towns of Iowa. And at every stop, the target is big government and Washington insiders, both Republican and Democrat. SOUNDBITE: "And it's sad when Republicans have to use Bill Clinton as an excuse for anything." SUPER CAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican Candidate Forbes has been in the race only five months - less time than the other contenders, but time enough to convince voters about his flat tax proposals. It's a theme he hopes will take him on to victory in Iowa and later in New Hampshire. SOUNDBITE: "But you know you have to be up to date on these things. I think we'll make a credible showing in Iowa, and make a credible in New Hampshire with our message of hope, growth and opportunity." SUPER CAPTION:Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Forbes is using T-V and radio in an unprecedented media blitz to convince voters he's their man. But he has yet to offer any details on how he will save every American household thousands of dollars. SOUND UP: (media video) "I'm Steve Forbes, if you take away the tax code you take away the power of Washington politicians. So I say scrap the tax code. Put in a low flat-tax. It's simple. It's honest. And that's a big change for Washington." SUPERCAPTION: Steve Forbes, Republican presidential candidate Now other candidates, including front-runner Bob Dole - are beginning to take Forbes seriously. SOUNDBITE: "All the other candidates including Dole now are attacking him relentlessly. Dole is fearful that he will surge enough to actually beat the front-runner in Iowa, which would be a devastating blow to Senator Dole. The other candidates are fearful he will do so well that none of them can emerge in what has become the coveted position which is the 'anybody but Dole ' position." SUPER CAPTION: Norman Ornstein, Political Analyst, The American Enterprise Institute Even the media are now putting Forbes firmly under the microscope. SOUNDBITE: (Question: 'Okay, so you are not a creation of the media?') A "I'm a creation of the fact that we have a message of hope, growth and opportunity, and that's what voters are responding to." SUPER CAPTION:Steve Forbes Polls say, that at the very least, the once dark-horse Forbes is now a force other Republican contenders must deal with. Sanders: Trump Was Joking About Tillerson's IQ

02:06
Sanders said Tuesday, "Senator Corker is certainly entitled to his own opinion but he's not entitled to his own facts." She added that Trump, has been an "incredibly strong leader on foreign policy and national security."
