New workshop build part 5: Flooring
Link to my website: http://benchworks.be/en/diy/ This shows the fitting and finishing of the wooden floor in my workshop, I always dreamed of working on a wooden floor, it's warm and comfortable. The last few years I started to get pain in my knees from the cold concrete floor, since working on this floor it has disappeared. I chose french pine because I wanted to have European wood and it was relatively affordable.

10 of the Most Popular Kitchen Styles
http://kitchencabinetvalue.com 10 of the most popular kitchen styles. Kitchen Cabinet Value 586-580-9436. Many homeowners are surprised to discover so many kitchen styles when they visit a home improvement store or a cabinet shop. The great variety and the number of available kitchen styles can be overwhelming. This variety, however, also ensures that every homeowner can find a kitchen style to their personal taste. Here are ten of the most popular kitchen styles: Antique Kitchen Style Old wood, aged paints and finishes, hardwood floors, and kitchen cabinet styles that look like old furniture are used to create this look. Contemporary Kitchen Style Contemporary kitchen cabinets are generally composed of minimal ornamentation and flat surfaces. Most materials in contemporary kitchen designs are man-made, including metal, plastic, concrete, glass, and recycled materials. Country Kitchen Style Painted and glazed cabinets, farmhouse sinks, beadboard panels, and open shelving are trademarks of country kitchen designs. Wide-planked wood floors, antique brass hardware, knotty pine furniture, and antique knick-knacks all contribute to the casual atmosphere of the country kitchen. European Kitchen Style European kitchens are minimalistic, functional and feature contemporary styling and an industrial look. European kitchen design avoids excess ornamentation. Materials used in European kitchen designs include plastic, metal, concrete, and glass. French Kitchen Style French kitchens have the character of rural France and use natural materials and earth tones. Wide-planked wood floors, antique brass hardware, stoneware, terracotta, wrought iron, fabric, and copper all contribute to mimicking the atmosphere of the French country lifestyle. Gourmet Kitchen Style A gourmet kitchen is usually situated around the cooking surface. The layout and measurements are critical in gourmet kitchen designs. The distances between the refrigerator, sink, and cooktop, known as the work triangle, should be spaced four to nine feet apart. Aisles and walkways should be 42-48 inches wide. Italian Kitchen Style Wood cabinets, natural stone surfaces, and natural wood tones comprise the Italian kitchen. Traditional Italian pots and pans can be displayed for aesthetic appeal and easy access. Bold colors are often part of the décor. Mexican Kitchen Style Lively, dramatic colors, to reflect the vibrant character of the heritage and culture of Mexico, are typically chosen. Granite is the best choice for countertops. Multicolored talavera tiles can bring an authentic look. For flooring, consider the rustic beauty of terracotta tiles or wide-planked wood to add warmth and natural beauty to the room. Mission Kitchen Style The term mission kitchens refers to several historic styles, but most people understand it to be referring to the Craftsman and Stickley style of furniture. Proper kitchen lighting is critical for mission style kitchens. Avoid recessed lights; consider light fixtures in amber tones made of bronze, wood, or stained glass. Shaker Kitchen Style Utilitarian designs, tapered posts, flat paneled doors, and sturdy construction are trademarks of Shaker kitchens. The style features Shaker door styles, which are flat paneled with flat square frames. Shaker cabinets are usually crafted with local American woods including ash, birch, cherry, hickory, maple or quarter-sawn oak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY1gF-bcddo This video was created by: Kitchen Cabinet Value 20504 Hall Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038 (586) 228-3262 Google Places: http://g.co/maps/ub2fb

How to distress and authentically handscrape a hardwood floor - make new wood look old
Distressing and hand scraping new wood so that the wood looks antique is quite straight forward. Nothing beats a subtly hand scraped hardwood floor or furniture for artistic effect: sorry, machine scraped floors lake the randomness of a legit handscrape and the powers that be in the factories always seem to overdue the effect. Less is always more. If you have access to labour or have endless muscles and energy here is what to do: Supplies: 1. various paint scrapers 2. a fine flat file 3. lots of replacement blades 4. steel wool 5. Vinegar 6. 80 grit sand paper 7. Vaccum with soft bristle head designed for hardwood floors 8. black shoe polish or asphalt (mix into either hardwax oil and/or wax 8. Shellac 9. paint brush 10. hardwax oil (I have used Woca, Eukula, Osmowax, rubio monocoat 11. cotton rags 12. Paste, or liquid wood wax 13. circular buffing machine https://youtu.be/hCsX412ytIw 14. 16 inch steel wool pad for buffing machines What to do (assuming you are working with freshly laid 3/4 inch hardwood flooring) 1. Rent a drum sander and edger to flatten off the over wood so that you are working with a flat surface (or if you installed engineered raw wood it will start out flat enough) 2. Distress your floor as randomly as possible by beating it with hammers, heavy chains, bowling balls. What you are doing is creating a depression in the wood grain that will come out later. 3. in a large bucket, fill a large bucket with a measured and recorded amount of regular vinegar 4. put a measured and recorded amount of regular steel wool pads into the vinegar. 5. Let dissolve for a measured and recorded amount of time. White oak has a relatively high amount of tannic acid that reacts quickly with the solution; however, other woods like butternut require a higher concentration of steel wool:vinegar that has been dissolved overnight to get the same reaction. 6. evenly wipe the solution on to the distressed hardwood floor. Wait until it turns black. This will take a varying amount of time depending on the wood species. 7. Get to work and start scraping of the black/brown/purple parts layer on the wood. No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to make the floor perfectly flat: this is what you want! Once the floor is oiled and waxed, light will bounce off the undulations in way that will set this floor apart from any factory scraped floor. Trust me. 8. If you hand scraped across the grain, it will show different than scraping with the grain. I prefer to keep this to a minimum since it tends to look very contrived. 9. If you are using multiple people, make sure they scrape one line them move to any section of the floor. This is because everyone scrapes different and you want everything to look random. 10. sweep up all the wood shaving 11. hand sand each board, going with the grain, until smooth and uniform. 12 vacuum the whole floor 13. If you wish to use shellac, mix up the shellac (sample the different colours - usually clear, orange, or amber) and evenly apply in sections using a paint brush. I recommend taping off small sections along the grain so that you don't have to worry about. Once complete and dry, hand sand the raised grain with a fine sanding sponge . Repeat the application of shellac and hand sand again after it is dry. 14. Shellac is not appropriate as a finish coat, so make the protective layer with either a hardwax oil, or a liquid or paste wax. 15. You can add shoe polish, oil stain, or asphalt into the hardwax oil or various waxes to give a desired effect. 16. When using hardwax oils, evenly apply with cotton rags(please handle safely, they absolutely will set on fire if you leave balled up and unattended!!!!!!), then evenly polish the floor with a white pad on a circular buffing machine to ensure it is finished evenly. Only add one or two layers of oil and let it cure for about a week before cleaning. https://youtu.be/jX47HBaHm7Y 17. If you are using wax, apply by hand and allow the wax to dry for an hour or two. Then buff the floor with a steel wool pad or a whitepad (please see other videos for this). Come back the next day and buff with fine steel wool pad on a buffing machine to help harden the wax. Keep repeating the wax application process as many times as you wish until you get a look that you love. Let the floor cure for about a week. If you do decide to wax the floor, i think this looks the best, make sure you are prepared to purchase a the buffing machine so that you can regularly polish the floor and reapply layers of wax over the years. This is the best way to maintain your floor and have its looks improve with age.

Tips for Dust Mopping Effectively
Dust mopping is essential to removing soil, dust and other debris from floors to prep them for wet mopping. This process should be done often depending on the foot traffic in your facility. Step One: Choose a Dust Mop Select a dust mop that is about half the width of the work area. For example, if the aisles of your retail store are six feet wide, choose a 36 inch mop to clean half the aisle in one pass while allowing customers to pass by. Step Two: Dust Mop the Area Push the mop close to the area's edges, moving debris into a neat pile in front of the mop. Overlap each pass by six inches, working from the outer perimeter to the center. Step Three: Remove Dirt and Debris Use a dust pan or stiff broom to sweep up debris, then empty it into a trash container. Step Four: Clean the Dust Mop Remove debris from the dust mop by shaking it out. Next, prolong the life of the mop by spraying it with a special dust mop treatment. Staining a Hardwood Floor with Vinegar and Steel Wool
In this video, we demonstrate how to stain a hardwood floor with a vinegar and steel wool mixture. Click here to read our blog post about this topic: http://bit.ly/2cdftLK or call (800) 737-1786 for more information. This is a perfect way to create a homemade floor stain to change the look of your floors. Mixing vinegar and steel creates iron acetate, which gives wood an aged look. The results are best when it’s applied to white oak. This video was recorded during a 2014 NWFA training seminar hosted at the City Floor Supply warehouse. Wood Flooring Grades | Woodpecker Flooring
Discover more about wood flooring grades at https://woodpeckerflooring.co.uk/ Know your floor to love it more. One of the most alluring things about wood flooring is its uniqueness. Each plank can feature details never to be repeated again. Natural knots, cracks and colour variation in timber make wood floors hugely distinctive. And a beautifully refined look can also be achieved with less natural character. To choose your wood floor, you'll need a little understanding of our wood flooring grades. Each category defines the level of character and detail you can expect. So getting to grips with the differences will help you make the right choice and discover your ideal style. Our wood flooring is separated into three distinct grades: Select, Rustic and Extra Rustic. Select is our most refined grade of wood flooring. Still with grain, colour variations and character but kept to a minimum for a beautifully mellow oak floor. Rustic is the all-rounder. It balances more grain, colour variation, sapwood, large knots, dark streaks and filled cracks with a sublime natural character. It's our most popular choice, suitable for lots of interior styles. Extra Rustic is the showman. Featuring an almost limitless number and size of knots, colour variations, splits and cracks, this is our most distinctive choice. So if you want to celebrate all that comes with the striking details of natural wood, this is the one for you. Discover more about wood flooring grades at: https://woodpeckerflooring.co.uk/
