For an in-depth guide to scarves: https://gentl.mn/best-scarves-for-you Like the scarf I’m wearing? Visit the link below: Alpaca Scarf Double Sided in Brown and Grey: https://gentl.mn/2kixmgp In today's video, I will discuss quality men's scarves, what you have to pay attention to and what you look for when you buy one. Scarves keep you stylish and warm and every man should have at least one. So, how to spot a quality men's scarf? First of all, size matters. Scarves can be very expensive but the problem is, sometimes, they're too short, sometimes they're too long, too wide or too slim and basically it limits you in the way you can tie the scarf. The ideal length for a man's scarf is about 72 inches or a 108 cm, everything shorter than that will be problematic and longer too. In terms of width, go for about 12inches or 30 cm, a little more or less works too, but that's the golden middle. The second thing to look for is fringes. You can have a long scarf with fringes such as here, where you can see them and it's perfectly appropriate. If you don't like that, just go with a different scarf where it's just basically little fringes and sometimes you can find them when they're completely sewn shut, this is actually a better way because it gives a flattering clean line. The third thing to consider when buying a scarf is the material. Go with natural fibers, there are many scarf materials out there and it's important to get the right one. One of the most popular materials is fleece or polyester scarves, they're not appropriate for overcoats and topcoats and town wear. So for those purposes, skip them. A very popular scarf material is merino wool, which is very nice because it's insulating, and it's affordable. It usually comes in plain solid, sometimes with checks and other patterns but it's not the softest cashmere. It's really great on reversible scarves when you have one side in silk and one side wool because you get the luster of the silk paired with the warmth of the wool. It's also popular in blended scarves, for example, with cashmere or with silk and it's a stable choice you can go with, just make sure it's not blended with polyester. One of the most popular materials in scarves is cashmere. Cashmere is great because it is soft and warm. One cashmere goat produces about a 150 grams of cashmere per year which is enough for about a scarf. The problem is, they're different qualities. There are short cashmere hairs and long staples. If you get the short staples, the scarf will peel very easily and quickly, that's a quality you want to avoid at all cost. If quality cashmere is a little too expensive for you, consider Alpaca. This is what I'm wearing right here. It is a little softer than wool, about as soft as cashmere but it is much warmer, the reason is, the fibers have hollow air chambers which act as an insulator, therefore Alpaca is much warmer than wool and cashmere. Silk scarves are great for formal outfits or eveningwear. Silk has this wonderful sheen and luster, has a wonderful touch but it's not super insulating because most of the time, silk scarves are thin and for that reason, we offer our silk scarves as reversible scarves with one side in silk and one side with wool. Now, if you have a scarf that has a different pattern on two sides, it's actually much more versatile. You can show maybe a different color or just mix the two and it just creates a great versatility to your outfits. It also looks great against solid overcoats and rather than investing in ten different scarves, you may be ending up just buying two or three scarves that work with everything you have in your wardrobe. These reversible scarves come in two versions: one, you have something called a tubular scarf, what that means is that you have actually, two layers of fabric that are basically sewn together and attached. It allows you to have entirely two different materials such as silk wool or cashmere and it makes an interesting look and feel in your skin. The second version of the reversible scarf is this one, where you have basically, a fabric that is double faced, there is no air in the middle, that's really nice and it feels like a single layer of a scarf but you have these two colors which add versatility. ======================================= To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: https://gentl.mn/1UCYZfo Want to see more videos? Learn 6 Ways How to Tie A Scarf like a Gentleman, and find out what is really important in a men's scarf in terms of quality, length, width etc. https://gentl.mn/scarf-guide #scarf #howtotieascarf #notsponsored The loop tie: Before you start tying it, it's important to know that you need something that's at least 70-75 inches long and about 12-15 inches wide. The way you tie it is: You take it the long way, and fold it in half the other way. You tighten the loop and you adjust your scarf. You put it in. Voila! The loop tie! Generally, as a man, you want a scarf that's about 70-75 inches long, because otherwise, your scarves are just too short - they're not covering you from the elements and, oftentimes, the ends just look ridiculous. For example, here we have an expensive cashmere scarf from Burberry, but it's only sixty inches long. So, for example, if I want to tie a loop tie, it's just very short, and when I walk around it's going to open up and it looks bad. The loop tie is great for cold winters because you have multiple layers of fabric and it sits very close to your neck so it's really warm... and it's my favorite for cold days. The second way to tie a scarf is the once-around chest warmer. I like it very much because it's elegant and it looks almost like a scarf from the old days of the gentry in the nineteenth century. Open your coat, then throw it around your neck, should be about one-third to two-thirds. You open it up, put it on your chest... Once around. And then... on the other side of the chest. You close your coat, and that's it! Voila! The once-around chest warmer! I like it with a double sided scarf because it shows you the different textures, it's warm enough for the winter, yet it's not bulky. The third way to tie a scarf is the once-around with a simple knot at the end. You start, again, similar like before: throw it around your neck - about one-third to two-thirds. Then you tie it around your neck like so and you make a little knot. And that's it: the once-around with a knot scarf! It's still warm - sits tightly around your neck - the little knot makes it interesting because it looks slightly different and I like this way to tie a scarf because it's rather simple, it's quick, yet with the little knot at the end, it really changes up things, and if you have a scarf with two sides, it helps to bring out the best of both of them. The fourth way to tie a scarf is called the knot, and it's called that way because it has a simple knot. Here is how you tie it: Throw it around your neck. Take the longer end and form a simple knot. Make sure you go about this high. Now you simply put the other end through the open knot. You tie it up. You adjust it - up and down - so it's tight around your neck. Put it into your topcoat or overcoat. Adjust it a little bit if necessary. And you're good to go! I like it very much for the fall because the knot it not too bulky, lightweight, yet it allows me to wear a scarf and look good. The fifth way to tie a scarf is called the "count." I like it particularly because it's very elegant and you look like a count. [Laughs] Alright, throw it over your neck. And, again, like in "the knot," tie a knot. Pull the knot up. And just like the knot, bring in the loose end all the way up. Now what you do: The longer end goes once under and over. Make sure you kind of open up your scarf like so. Now you put it in there, and I like the count because it nicely covers up the 'V' of my coat, so no wind is going to blow in, it warms my chest, and it warms my neck, so I'm covered all around and I look great; That's why I love the count. ======================================= To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: https://gentl.mn/1qNYjH9 Want to see more videos? Parisian men wear scarves to show off their fashion sense. They have a keen sense of the scarf; it’s almost a birthright. They know how to tie them, when to wear them, and how to choose precisely the right color to wear with the rest of their outfit. Even in warmer weather, men are commonly seen with a lightweight scarf worn around their neck as an accessory. Read our in-depth guide here: https://gentl.mn/2zGYnAs Are Hermes Ties worth it? Monkey's Fist Knot Cufflinks - https://gentl.mn/2ItoNZk So, how can you distinguish a fake from a genuine Hermes tie? It all starts with the Hermes box. The Hermes ties always come in the signature orange box never in a plastic bag. If you get the box, inspect it meticulously. First of all, it has the signature Hermes orange that fakers often get wrong. The logo in the Box is not super huge and measures just about 2.3 centimeters or just under an inch from the H to the S. Also, look at the font itself, the logo, as well as anything below it because fakers oftentimes get that wrong. Also look at the edges of the orange paper on the inside. They cover the walls but not the bottom part and everything is very neat. Now if you buy a used Hermes tie, it likely won't come in a box so let's take a look at the ties and what you have to pay attention to. It's important to keep in mind that different Hermes ties such as the regular silk twill print or the heavy silk twill print, the scarf ties or the woven ties, can all have different hallmarks. The first way to identify a fake is to look at the silk. Hermes silk printed ties are always 100% silk, never polyester or any blend. Also, Hermes prints all of the regular weight silk ties on the same kind of twill, so it's always the same. The second step to identify a fake Hermes tie is to look at the direction of the twill. On the front side of the tie on the wider blade take a closer look at the twill pattern. It should always go from 11 to 5 o'clock. If it goes in any other direction it's a fake. Three, now that your tie is still turned around, take a closer look at the tip lining color. Genuine Hermes ties usually have a color of the lining that matches the background color exactly. Fake Hermes ties often get that wrong and they have a solid black lining with H patterns on it. Four, take a close look at the tie bar tacks. These are these little sewing things on either end of the fold that keep the tie from unfolding. For printed Hermes twill ties, these little tie tacks are usually in a color very close to the background color of the silk. On the other hand, fake Hermes ties usually use just a black color and their tacks are also much thicker. The fifth step in identifying a genuine Hermes tie is to look at the dovetail fold. By that I mean you turn the tie around, you look at the front plate and open the folds in the back. Look underneath of it and you will see a dovetail fold that is a hallmark of all Hermes ties. Six, look for the slip stitch. All Hermes ties are hand sewn with a thread that is a hundred and seventy seven meters long. Seven, find the loop thread. Because ties can stretch and they are made out of different layers you need a thread that has a reserve and that reserve in Hermes ties is in the loop. Eight, take a closer look at the horse carriage Hermes logo on the slimmer blade of the tie. On regular silk twill ties, you will always find this Hermes stamp on the front side of the slim blade. On a tie, it should say Hermes Paris all in caps and have a copyright symbol. Nine, look at the pattern mark. All printed Hermes ties in twill have a pattern mark to identify the designer and the design number. It's rectangular and it aligns with the edge fold of the tie. The top line should read made in France, all in caps, Sans Serif. The middle line should have a pattern number followed by the initials of the Artist. Those are in a serif font. Tenth way to identify a genuine Hermes tie is to take a look at the tie keeper. By that, I mean that little woven label in the back of Hermes ties that you can use to stick the slimmer and the tie through. Unlike many other ties including the ones from Fort Belvedere, the keeper loop in Hermes is not made out of the tie silk but it's a simple woven label that is much slimmer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Learn the best way to tie your Ascot & Cravat, what mistakes to avoid and more. http://gentl.mn/ascots-cravats-how-to #ascot #howtotieanascot #notsponsored How to tie an Ascot? Here are three ways that you can do it. 1. TRADITIONAL - pleats up or down, it doesn't matter. It is necessary to have the pleats overlap the knot so the knot will be tighter and look your best all day. The right end needs to be about three to four inches longer than the left one. Second, the right end, the longer end, goes over the left end. What's important here is that the pleated part is actually part of the knot. With the traditional ascot, you may want to unbutton your shirt and then you close it once you have it tucked in and then simply adjust it to your liking. 2. SIMPLE - simple because of a single knot. For this type of knot, it is rather loose so it is likely for it to become looser over the course of the day. 3. MODIFIED FOUR IN HAND- The right end should be about 2 inches longer and follow the steps when tying a regular four in hand. With an ascot, it's more complicated because it is unlined. The advantage of this is that even if it comes loose which is not likely, you can always simply tighten it. The modified four in hand adds more volume in the knot making it pop and flow down nicely. Some of you may have half ascot versions where you have one loop and one wide end. To tie this, the wide end goes through the loop and you pull it tight, adjust it and just bring this end through the back, adjust it and put it in. It's not as full but can be advantageous when it's warm and you want less material on your chest. Things to avoid when wearing an ascot? -Never button your shirt all the way up. -Never unbutton more than two buttons an exposed chest is not attractive. -Avoid cheap silk on your skin or jacquard woven silk because it will pull more threads and it will be more uncomfortable. -For day wear, avoid ascots with interlining because it's stiffer and not very comfortable to wear. -If you sweat a lot, be careful with your shirts because cheap silk have the tendency to bleed off the color and you don't want to ruin your shirts. ======================================= Interested in buying Ascots, look here http://gentl.mn/1V5LLb9 To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: http://gentl.mn/1RYGNMU Want to see more videos? Hermès - Footsteps across the world collection: Kyoto https://www.hermes.com/uk/en/story/sustainable-development/ Droplets, waves and mountains… the etchings held prisoner in blocks of stone were the inspiration for the Japanese master bookbinders’ marbled paper. Inkjet printing has transposed these effects to fabric, without ever equalling the delicacy and radiance of the patterns found by Hermès in an old album in the archives of its Lyon textile sector. After years of research, this technique of silk marbling using a compressed, through-coloured starch paste was rediscovered in Kyoto. The Nose family is its custodian. Midnight in Paris, and the city seems calm and quiet. But a signal beams out from the Eiffel Tower: a call to Super H! Something’s afoot. Masked and cloaked, the proud horse atop the Hermès building undergoes a strange metmorphosis, ready for action. We watch breathlessly as he prepares to take flight – a modern Pegasus for the world of the comic strip. A few seasons ago, another carré – Quand soudain (‘When suddenly…’) – showed him with his rider, galloping, mane rippling in the wind. Here, watched from a discreet distance by his groom, standing behind a nearby window, he sports a super-hero costume all his own. What’s about to happen? Find out next time, in the adventures of Super H.
