Claude Debussy - La Mer

23:09
"La Mer" L.109, (The Sea), is an orchestral composition by Claude Debussy. It was started in 1903 in France and completed in 1905 on the English Channel coast in Eastbourne. The premiere was given by the Lamoureux Orchestra under the direction of Camille Chevillard on 15 October 1905 in Paris. "La Mer" is a composition of huge suggestion and subtlety in its rich depiction of the ocean, which combines unusual orchestration with daring impressionistic harmonies. The work has proven very influential, and its use of sensuous tonal colours and its orchestration methods have influenced many later film scores. While the structure of the work places it outside of both absolute music and programme music as those terms were understood in the early 20th century, it obviously uses descriptive devices to suggest wind, waves and the ambience of the sea. But structuring a piece around a nature subject without any literary or human element to it - neither people, nor mythology, nor ships are suggested in the piece - also was highly unusual at the time. Debussy called his work "three symphonic sketches," avoiding the loaded term symphony; yet the work is sometimes called a symphony; it consists of two powerful outer movements framing a lighter, faster piece which acts as a type of scherzo. "La Mer" is divided inot three movements: 1. "De l'aube à midi sur la mer" (from dawn to midday on the sea); 2. "Jeux de vagues" (Play of the Waves); 3. "Dialogue du vent et de la mer" (Dialogue of the wind and the sea). Conductor: Vladimir Ashkenazy & Cleveland Orchestra

Trenet's French version was a homage and ode to the changing moods of the sea, while Lawrence, by just adding one word "Beyond" to the title, gave him the start whereby he made the song into one of a dear lover mourning for a lost love, boyfriend/girlfriend, or beloved sweetheart It has been recorded by many artists, but Bobby Darin's version released in 1959 is the best known by many. La Mer (Beyond the Sea)

04:37
"La Mer" is a song written by French composer, lyricist, singer and showman Charles Trenet (1913--2001). Trenet wrote the lyrics of "La Mer" on a train in 1943 while travelling along the French Mediterranean coast, returning from Paris to Narbonne. He supposedly wrote the song in ten minutes, on toilet paper supplied by SNCF (National Corporation of French Railways). The music is based on "Heart and Soul", a popular song at the time, with music by Hoagy Carmichael and lyrics by Frank Loesser, published in 1938. He was assisted with the tune by Léo Chauliac. It was originally published by Raoul Breton. It was not until 1946 that Trenet recorded the song. When it was released in 1946, it became an unexpected hit, and has remained a chanson classic ever since. The song has been subject to many interpretations in French and in many languages. Roger Williams recorded it as "La Mer (Beyond the Sea)" in 1956. In the 1960s, a cover was done by Cliff Richard with The Shadows. Dalida and Will Ferdy did covers both in 1976 and Daniel Guichard in 1983 and Graham Dalby and The Grahamophones recorded the song on the album Transatlantique in 1993. More recent versions include Kevin Kline (film, "French Kiss"-1995), Kristina & Laura, Manlio Sgalambro, Lisa del Bo, Biréli Lagrène, Patricia Kaas, and others. Instrumental versions were done by Ray Conniff His Orchestra and Chorus, Le Grand Orchestre de Paul Mauriat, Richard Clayderman. Language versions "Beyond the Sea" Main article: Beyond the Sea (song) English lyrics, unrelated to the French lyrics, were later written by Jack Lawrence and entitled "Beyond the Sea". The English version has been recorded by many artists, including Benny Goodman, Mantovani, Roger Williams and Gisele MacKenzie, but Bobby Darin's version released in 1959 is the best known by many, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song reached the top 40 twice prior to the Darin version (Goodman's version in 1948, Williams's in 1955). More recent versions include covers by Lawrence Welk, Martin Denny, Bent Thalmay, Dick Jordan, Helen Shapiro, Johnny Mathis, We Five, The Sandpipers, Sacha Distel, George Benson, Bobby Caldwell, Carol Welsman, Eric Comstock, Gene Nery, Robbie Williams, Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart and Miguel Bosé. "Il Mare" An Italian version with lyrics by Pasquale Panella and made famous by Sergio Cammariere "De zee" In 1970, it was covered in Dutch by Lize Marke with lyrics by Johnny Steggerda, Jack Bess. In 2008, it was covered in Dutch but with new lyrics Herman Pieter de Boer rather than the 1970 lyrics. It was performed as a jazz tune by Rob de Nijs.
La Mer ~ Francoise Hardy (HD, HQ) with French lyrics

02:23
Many artists have covered this song, in French and other languages. This one is Francoise Hardy's interpretation, which sings the sea's praises in a heart-warming way. My English Translation of the Lyrics:- The sea that you see dancing along the clear bay, Has silvery reflections, the sea, Reflections that are transfigured in the rain. The sea, under a summer sky, confuses its white waves With the angels so pure, the sea, An infinite azure rocking chair. Behold the bushy wet weeds near the water, Behold the white birds and the rusty mansions. The sea has cradled them all along the clear bay, And, like a love song, the sea Has cradled my heart, for life. The sea has cradled them all along the clear bay, And, like a love song, the sea Has cradled my heart, for life. "La Mer" is a song written by French composer, lyricist and singer Charles Trenet. Trenet wrote the lyrics in 1943 on a train while travelling along the French Mediterranean coast. He supposedly finished writing in ten minutes on a piece of toilet paper supplied by the French National Railway Corporation (SNCF). The music was based on a 1938 popular song "Heart and Soul" and Leo Chauliac helped Trenet with the tune. Trenet recorded the song in 1946, which became an unexpected hit and has remained a classic song ever since. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. The source for Bobby Darin's 1960 hit Beyond the Sea was a song by the archetypal French chansonnier Charles Trenet, La Mer, written in 1945. What it lost in poetry when it washed up on American shores, it gained in swing, and was a long standing hit on both continents. #2 on the list of 100 Les Plus Belles Chansons after Brel's Ne Me Quitte Pas

1946 Charles Trenet - La Mer (aka “Beyond The Sea”)

03:20
The mid-1940s tunes “La Vie En Rose” and “La Mer” are sometimes cited as the two most successful international song hits to come from France. Here the composer sings his famous French-language version. The familiar “Beyond The Sea” English lyric by Jack Lawrence was introduced in the U.S. in 1947, and available on the MusicProf78 channel is a beautiful Harry James version from that year, as is the Bobby Darin hit of early 1960. CD audio, originally issued on 78rpm: (FR) Columbia DF-3096 - La Mer (Trenet) by Charles Trenet, conducted by Albert Lasry, recorded March 25, 1946 Check out the daily music posts on my Facebook group: 1950s HITS--EVERY DAY! https://www.facebook.com/groups/824194430969202/ MusicProf78 Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Musicprof78/689903871053047

La mer Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs A des reflets d'argent La mer Des reflets changeants Sous la pluie La mer Au ciel d'¨¦t¨¦ confond Ses blancs moutons Avec les anges si purs La mer berg¨¨re d'azur Infinie Voyez Pr¨¨s des ¨¦tangs Ces grands roseaux mouill¨¦s Voyez Ces oiseaux blancs Et ces maisons rouill¨¦es La mer Les a berc¨¦s Le long des golfes clairs Et d'une chanson d'amour La mer A berc¨¦ mon coeur pour la vie

Calogero & Passi - Face à la mer (greek lyrics)

Calogero & Passi - Face à la mer (greek lyrics) / Αντίκρυ στη Θάλασσα Στίχοι: Alana Filippi & Passi Μουσική: Calogero & Gioacchino Πρώτη εκτέλεση από τον Calogero και τον Passi, στο άλμπουμ του Calogero: Calog3ro (2004) Lyrics - Paroles : (Passi) On ne choisit ni son origine, ni sa couleur de peau. Je me relève, Je prends mon dernier rêve. Je me relève, Je prends mon dernier rêve. Calo-Passi 2.0.0.4. action. (Calogero) Face à la mer J'aurais dû grandir; Face contre terre J'aurais pu mourir. Je me relève, Je prends mon dernier rêve.
