Gaining weight as a skinny person is not easy. It is frustrating to eat a lot but still not gain weight. One thing that skinny people do not know is that they have a fast metabolism which makes it hard for them to gain weight. A fast metabolism means that your body burns all the calories you eat. As a skinny person trying to gain weight, you have to eat a lot more than your metabolism can handle. Naturally, creating a caloric surplus in your body will make you gain weight. Probably you are skinny due to lack of knowledge of what it takes to gain weight. Below are top five tips that will help you gain weight: 5. Eat more food The leading trick to gain weight is to consume more calories than your body can burn. The mistake that most people do is to go by their feelings. Your metabolism could be much faster than you think. You need to know how much calories your body needs for you to gain weight. Keep track of everything you eat to know how much calories you consume every day. You might overestimate your calorie intake if you go with your feelings. In the first week, you will have difficulties eating all the required calories for you to gain weight. After maybe two weeks, your stomach will stretch and start getting hungry more often. 4. Track your progress Weigh yourself every week to check how you are progressing. Malnourished people will gain weight quickly in the first week due to increased bowel content and weight from the extra water as well. Continue eating the same if you gain weight; if you do not gain weight, you will have to keep adding more calories to your daily intake every week until you gain weight. You should note that the food that makes you gain the first 10kg will not make you gain the next 10kg. A skinny person with less muscle mass burns fewer calories than one with a bigger muscle mass. Thus, a person with no muscles will require fewer calories to gain weight as opposed to a more masculine person. 3. Eat more protein Protein is necessary for muscle building and recovery. The following are the best protein sources for gaining weight: whole eggs, chicken breast, tuna, cheese, and steaks. For you to build your body muscles, you will require at least 1g of proteins per 1lb of body-weight per day. However, you should have in mind that some people will not gain weight or muscles without gaining fat as well. 2. Eat more meals You have been eating little food for years. Thus your stomach is small. If you are required to take at least 1500 calories a day for you to gain weight, it will be easier if you take 300 calories in 5 meals than having 500 calories in 3 meals. Create yourself a bigger eating window. With eight sleeping hours, you are left with 16 hours to eat. Make a schedule of how you will have the five meals in those 16 hours. 1. Training Lifting weights is good for people trying to gain weight since it triggers the body to build muscle mass. If you do not train, the excess calories that do not burn will be stored as fat around your waistline. Your goal is to be muscular and not chubby. Therefore you will need to train. Remember, the more you train, the more calories you will burn and therefore the more calories you will require creating a caloric surplus. I know because I struggled with this myself. Learning how to gain weight fast if you're skinny is made complicated because the truth is, you're getting bad advice. Most will tell you that in order to get big you have to eat big. This is just too damn simplified to have any real merit. As I show you in this video, in order to build muscle if you are skinny you need to FIRST focus on the quality of the food you eat before you even think about the quantity. Eating a lot of bad food will do nothing to help you build muscle size since the building blocks are founded on garbage. Eating less of healthier foods will do far more to help you get bigger, even if that means taking in far fewer calories than you do now. As a self admitted junk food eater growing up, I can tell you that I never was really able to add any muscle eating the food I was eating. It wasn't until I decided to clean up my nutrition and start following more of a bodybuilding diet or eating plan that I started to see my gains skyrocket. The problem was, the bodybuilding meal plan was downright bland! I learned more about nutrition and realized that eating well didn't have to be painful. Years later I would create the X Factor Meal Plan (that is included in the ATHLEAN-X Training System at http://athleanx.com ). This same plan not only helped me to build muscle as a skinny guy but it also ironically helped guys that were overweight to get ripped! How does that work? It happens because when you start having a respect for your nutrition and you provide your body with the nutrients that it needs to build lean muscle, you change the way your body responds to your training. If you are looking to add muscle fast, you'd simply eat more of the right foods to establish a caloric surplus while making sure the food quality was high. Most skinny guys don't really have that sense of urgency and don't look at being skinny as a problem. More often than not they it's the case of "It would be nice to gain weight" or "I'm fine with the way I am now but I'd like to be able to put on a bit more size." This doesn't generate the necessary motivation to go through the hard process of changing your diet (and stick with it) to gain weight. And if the pain of staying skinny isn't greater than the pain required to go through the process of changing your diet you won't be able to stick with it. Diet and lifestyle adjustments: TIP #1 - Setup Your Calories and Macros To Make It Easier To Eat More As a skinny guy who's generally struggling to eat enough food to gain weight healthy fats are the easiest way to get into a calorie surplus. No matter how adaptive or "fast" your metabolism is at a certain intake of calories your body won't be able to "burn-off" the energy and you'll start gaining weight. Guys who claim they eat 5000-6000 kcal / day and don't gain any weight are either unaware of their true intake or are flat out lying. So the way you setup your macros to make gaining weight easier is to go with a very high fat diet. 1 gram of fat has 9 kcal. The first step of course is to setup the appropriate protein intake which can easily be 1g per lbs of Body-weight if you're skinny. Second step is to give yourself enough carbohydrate which you set as 2 - 3 g / lbs of Body-weight depending on personal preference. And the rest of calories into fat. i.e. Male 150 lbs @ 3000 Kcal/ day broken down into: 150g of protein 280-300g of carbs 130-140g of fat I would generally advise you to avoid or at least minimize heat processed vegetable oils, anything with rapeseed oil, canola oil, hydrogenised or (partially) hardened vegetable fats and artificial transfats. Foods such as peanut butter, almond butter, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, whole milk, kefir, yoghurt, full fat cheese, fatty fish, generally fattier meats and whole eggs are all amazing sources. My go-to source of healthy fats and calories is dark 80%+ chocolate. If I'm on a "bulk" sometimes I'll eat 2 of these 100g chocolates per day. So when it comes to food you want to avoid low fat products and stick with a high fat diet. TIP #2 - Design Your Environment / LifestyleTo Have Easy Access to Food Healthy snacks are a great choice. Great sources to have around are dry roasted nuts and dried fruits. These are easy to store and to bring with you. You want to make it easier to consume more calories. So things like not drinking water anytime before a meal is recommend so you can eat more. Generally avoid things like intermittent fasting if you need to consume a lot of calories. It doesn't make sense to fast. Eating more frequent meals can help some guys get more food, choose a meal frequency that makes you more hungry and allows for easier consumption of food. Don't forget to bring food with you. Plan how you're gonna get food. This comes down to weekly grocery shopping and always having go-to high calorie sources like nuts and dark chocolate available. TIP #3 - Track Your Food Intake Guys who are naturally skinny greatly overestimate the amount of calories they eat by A LOT. This can be solved with tracking your food intake with free apps such as MyFitnessPal. You don't need to track 24/7 365 days of the year but it is recommended to track for a few weeks to see exactly how much food and calories you need to start gaining weight. If you don't do this you're most likely going to waste your time and you're not going to be consistent. If you remove the guess work you'll get results much faster. Compound exercises are those that involve more than one joint and muscle group. They are more efficient and effective for muscle growth. Because after spending years building muscle naturally I've learned that there are certain useless exercises that you should avoid entirely other exercises that you might want to consider incorporating and then there are the exercises that you just cant go without. Exercises that by themselves have the power to transform your physique. I've narrowed this list down to just seven of the most important exercises that you absolutely should have as a staple part of your routine to efficiently build the most muscle in the shortest amount of time. By mastering these 7 key compound exercises you'll see incredible results even if you're not doing any other exercises in the gym. And I made this video specifically for men not because women can't benefit from these exercises as well but because the ideal attractive body type for men is a V shape whereas for women it's more of an hourglass figure. So even though a lot of the exercises do crossover for both men women this video is specifically to help you develop the best manly physique with the least amount of exercises possible. I'm going to list off these exercises in no particular order, so Let's start first with a very important upper body exercise the bent over barbell Row. With this exercise you'll be working the rhomboids which are the muscles that connect your shoulder blades together so your upper back muscles and you'll also be working the back of your shoulder and your biceps. This is one of the most important pulling movements that you can do. Because you're working multiple muscle groups responsible for Pulling you're able to lift a lot more weight with this compound exercise then if you were to isolate any one of these muscles individually. By strengthening your rhomboids and your posterior deltoid you'll be tightening up your upper back which will help you hold yourself straight up and maintain a better more attractive upright posture. Since you can lift heavy weight with this exercise your biceps are also going to get a lot of stimulation because you'll be lifting a weight that would be impossible to lift with an isolated movement like bicep curls. A basic bent over row is done by grabbing a barbell with your hands a little wider than shoulder-width apart. Stick your butt out and stick your chest out before beginning the movement. Then bend down by about 60 degrees so you're a little higher than being fully parallel to the ground and you want let the weight hang straight down, do not flex your shoulders. While keeping your chest out pull the barbell inward towards your stomach and aim to touch your belly button with the bar. Then bring it back down to that hanging position and repeat this motion for reps. The great thing about rows is that you can do it with a barbell or you can do it with dumbbells, but a general rule of thumb to remember is that you'll be able to lift more weight and typically you'll be able to build more mass with barbells over dumbbells. Also by changing the angles at which you bend during a bent over row you can Target different parts of your back. A fully bent-over position where you're at a 90 degree angle will Target more of your lats and the middle of your back whereas standing more upright will Target more of your traps and upper back. Let's move on to another staple exercise that you should be doing, barbell and dumbbell chest presses. While the rows will help you develop the posterior or the back part of your upper body the chest presses are there to help you develop the anterior or the front part of your upper body. It'll hit your chest, the front head of your shoulders as well as your triceps. With chest presses you want to spend the majority of your time doing them at two different angles flat and incline. If your weakness is your upper chest you want to spend more of your time doing incline presses. if your upper chest is fine but you lack lower chest development you want to spend more of your time doing flat movements. Now the reason why I didn't mention the decline angle is because with flat presses you're going to get

And all you want to do is gain some weight and build some muscle but it seems like no matter what you do your body just won't let you gain any weight. Trust me I've been there after working out and burning a whole bunch of fat it became really hard to put on any extra muscle for me. In high-school people would call me lanky and even though I was strong especially for my weight I didn't feel like I looked strong and for whatever reason that was important to me like I'm sure it's important to a lot of you. Overtime I changed that and I promise you it's possible for you to change it too. You can learn everything you need to do to change it in this video today. Let's start first with the term hardgainer I want you to eliminate it from your vocabulary because every disadvantage that you have can be turned into an advantage. Focusing on your disadvantage of putting on muscle will not help you build muscle it'll only help you find excuses for why you can't. Again I don't care how fast your metabolism is you can build muscle and you can build a lot of it by doing the right things. So stop calling yourself a hardgainer.......hardgainers by the way are very lucky because after they put on muscle they're usually the ones that looks super aesthetic because it's easy for them to stay lean. To gain weight first of all you should be challenging yourself with a progressive weight training program. This means you should work on incrementally increasing the weight you're lifting for every one of your exercises especially for the compound major lifts like squats, bench and dumbbell presses, deadlifts and weighted wide grip pullups or barbell rows. Progressive overload in your compound lifts is super important to build mass however it's not the only thing that you have to do. When I was in my sophomore year of high school I was benching 205 for almost 10 reps. And I remember somebody in our high school gym came over to me and said you don't look like you can do that weight. and even though he meant that as a compliment he meant that I'm stronger than I look that's not how I took it. So around my junior and senoir year I started to increase the amount of food that I was taking in. And even though this did help me grow it only helped me grow a little bit. It wasn't until after high school that i really discovered how important eating the right food in the right amounts...how important that is for building Mass. Here's what I learned first of all if you're going to the gym lifting the heavy weight but still struggling to build muscle I need you to drastically increase your carbohydrates. And I don't mean carbs like candy ice cream chips and junk food I mean carbs like brown and white rice sweet potatoes quinoa buckwheat couscous Ezekiel bread and even regular whole wheat bread and pasta is a must if you're struggling with building Mass. Now I know this isn't the general advice that you're going to get because there's a huge carb phobia in the fitness industry nowadays but I'm telling you if youre hitting the gym hard that's what you're missing. Back in the 70s and the 80s bodybuilders like Arnold were very fond of a 40-40-20 split where they would have 40% protein 40% carbs and 20% fat. And for gaining muscle this was always the split that I noticed the most results with. You may be wondering why a high carb diet will help you gain muscle. And the reason why is because of insulin. At the end of the day we're trying to get you to gain weight here. To lose weight we know that we need to keep your insulin levels low. To gain weight the inverse is true we need to keep those insulin levels High. And carbs are the most insulinogenic out of the three macronutrients protein carbs and fats. So but having more carbs you're going to be able to spike your insulin and gain weight easier. It is absolutely unnecessary for you to have more than one gram of protein per pound of body weight. However with carbs if you're skinny and you just can't gain muscle no matter what you do the Sky's the limit with carbs. Most hardgainers Focus way too much on how much protein theyre having and they're doing trendy diets like keto and intermittent fasting. And I know that keto and intermittent fasting are both great diet plans to burn fat but they are far from the best diet structures to build muscle. I normally tell you guys that it doesn't matter how many meals you have per day or how often you eat.

According to one study, being underweight was associated with a 140% greater risk of early death in men, and 100% in women. These were actually higher than the risks for obesity. There are also many people who are not clinically underweight but still want to gain some muscle and mass. Now for either scenario, the main principles are the same. Eat More Calories Than Your Body Burns The most important thing to gain weight is to eat more calories than your body needs. Without doing that, you simply won’t gain any. The quickest way to determine your calorie needs is using an online calorie calculator which I'll link up in the video description. Aim for 300-500 calories per day above your maintenance level, or 700-1000 calories if you want to gain weight fast. Keep in mind that calorie calculators only provide estimates. Binging on soda and donuts may help you gain weight, but that's not the right kind. It's very important to eat mostly healthy foods so that you build muscle and still nurture metabolic health. Eat Lots of Protein The single most important nutrient for gaining healthy weight is protein. After all, muscle is made of protein. For weight gain aim for 0.7-1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (1.5 – 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram). You can even go above that if your calorie intake is very high. Healthy high-protein foods include meats, fish, eggs, many dairy products, legumes and nuts. Protein supplements like whey protein can also be useful if you struggle to eat large amounts. Although protein is king, you'll also need to eat a lot of carbs and fat to exceed your calorie requirements each day. So following a low-fat or low-carb diet won't be helpful. Lift Weights and Improve Your Strength In order to make sure that the excess calories go to your muscles instead of just your fat cells, it's absolutely crucial to lift weights. The gym is the perfect environment for this, and you should aim to train 2-4 times per week. If you are new to it all, consider hiring a qualified personal trainer at the beginning. You may also want to consult with a doctor if you have skeletal problems or any sort of medical issue. At the end of the day, changing your weight is a marathon, not a sprint. That goes for both losing and gaining. And while it does take a long time, if you are consistent then you will find a lot of success in the long run.
