The Swedish Sea Rescue Society - It is entirely voluntary

00:31
The Swedish Sea Rescue Society proudly presents: Store Manager Madeleine Grundén and Vocational Teacher Staffan Sindsjö. Imagine rushing home from work on a windy and rainy evening. Not just to take it easy at home on the couch. Instead you change into a rescue suit and head out on the sea to train in extreme conditions. This is the life of a volunteer sea rescuer including evenings and weekends all year round. Madeleine and Staffan are two of our over 2000 volunteers that work along the Swedish coast. All together the sea rescuers dedicate thousands of hours of their own free time on exercises so that you can feel safe when you are out with your boat. Our most important mission is to save lives at sea and we do that completely non-profit without government funding. Cozy 1930 Cottage Overlooking The Sea in Sweden, Amazing Small House Design

03:06
This cozy cottage just came on the market in Sweden. It is located in Åsa, a wonderful little community on Sweden’s southwest coast. Åsa offers you both beaches and retail shops within easy walking distance, as well as the convenience of being less than an hour from Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. The original cottage was built back in 1930, with the larger bedroom at the end probably a later addition. It has a single-level floor plan of roughly 47 m2 (506 ft2). The dining room and living room are on the side with the higher roof, while the kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms are lined up under the lower-sloped roof. The dining area is one of the home’s highlights, a sunspace-like extension facing the sea. The living room’s distinctive fireplace is another nice feature. Looking at the floor plan, you’ll see that all the rooms are closed off from one another. The kitchen especially is somewhat cramped — notice how the sink appears to have been installed sideways to save space. So we would open up the kitchen to the dining room, which seems to have some extra space. We would probably also widen the opening between the living room and the dining room. And, it would be nice to have a door leading directly from the kitchen/dining space to the large south-facing deck. Göta Kanal (Sweden) Vacation Travel Video Guide

25:16
Travel video about destination Göta Kanal in Sweden. The Göta Canal is Sweden's construction of the millennium and connects Kattegatt on the west coast with the east coast of the Baltic Sea, and is the main waterway through Sweden, from Gothenburg to Stockholm. Gothenburg is a seaport that was founded in 1621 and on Packhus Quay, close to both the Maritime Centre and the Opera, the Wilhelm Tham on which we shall travel across Sweden, awaits us. Shortly before Trollhättan our first adventure begins as the boat ascends within a masterpiece of canal design. Over a short distance, six lock systems built in a row overcome a height difference of forty four metres. One lock after the other opens up, and the inflow of water raises the boat to the next level. Our journey leads into the Bottensjön that is connected to Lake Vättern until we finally arrive at the port of Karlsborg. Behind the walls of Karlsborg Fortress are barracks, various buildings and a church. A truly massive structure, built in 1809 after Sweden had lost Finland to Russia. At Berg the captain skilfully steers the boat into the Carl Johans locks. Our descent is complete and we continue on the long drawn-out Lake Roxen. Again, a natural body of water forms part of the eastern Göta Canal, a remnant of the Ice Age, thirty three metres above sea level. The crossing of southern Sweden has only been made possible due to the construction of the Göta Canal, an amazing waterway with sixty six locks and countless bridges. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Sweden Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations

57:19
Unusually clean, fresh air, dense, dark green pine forests, sparkling lakes among seemingly endless forests, bright blue sky, wide rivers, green grass in contrast with red-painted houses with white doors and window-frames… That’s Sweden. Vast free landscapes where mass of flowers bloom in May and trees glitter in unrealistic colors in September. Among the plains, the lakes and the hills ancient cities are located: the red-bricked Malmö, the port Gothenburg, the medieval Ystad, Helsingör and Helsingborg, and the university town Uppsala which is always full of life. Stockholm, built between Lake Malaren and Baltic Sea, rivals any European capital city. Near to it, there are castles which enchant the travellers, for instance Skokloster Castle or Gripsholm Castle. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Stockholm, Sweden Travel Guide - Must-See Attractions

03:46
http://bookinghunter.com Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the largest city of Fennoscandia. Stockholm is located on Sweden's south-central east coast, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren - Sweden's third largest lake - flows out into the Baltic Sea. The central parts of the city consist of fourteen islands that are continuous with the Stockholm archipelago. The geographical city centre is situated on the water, in Riddarfjärden bay. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways and another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces. The most important places to visit in Stockholm: Vasa Museum (this is Sweden's National Maritime Museum. On display is the famous Vasa ship, the only preserved 17th century ship of its kind), Stockholm Royal Palace (the official residence of the Swedish monarch. It's a former site of a 14th century fortress), Town Hall (a key landmark for the city of Sweden. More than eight million bricks were used to construct this beautiful building), Drottningholm Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This stunning architectural gem built in the 1600's is the private home of the Royal family) and many more. This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Stockholm travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Kayaking Dalslandskanal, Sweden - Day 1-9

49:20
This video summarizes a 13 day kayak trip with friends on Dalsland Canal. Dalsland Canal is one of Europe's most beautiful waterways and connects a number of lakes and rivers with water locks and idyllic canal passages. The total drop in altitude is 66m from lake Stora Le down to the big lake Vänern. Dalsland is a beautiful, wild and sparsely populated area in western Sweden situated between Vänern and the Norwegian border. This first part of two, starts in Ed on the big lake Stora Le and continues over lakes Foxen, Lelång, Västra Silen, Svärdlång, Laxsjön, and Råvarp. Part two will continue from Råvarp via the famous locks in Håverud & other locks, over lakes Ånimmen, Svanefjorden, Vänern and finally end in Mellerud. The video shows an overview map in the beginning plus a more detailed map for each new day. We were between 3 and 5 kayakers on different stretches. The kayak trip was a very nice experience even if we got all sorts of weather. Regarding wildlife we saw many Loons (Lom), Ospreys (Fiskgjuse), other birds, deer and several beaver huts (but no beavers). Locking with our kayaks was also a new and fun experience! I also had a chance to get acquainted with my first kayak sail (TW 0.8m2 sail from Flat Earth Kayak Sails). It was a blast and I can't wait until autumn comes with good winds and warm water! Part 1 was unfortunately accidently filmed with the 960p GoPro video setting, sorry about that. The pictures are full HD though and all of part 2 is full 1920x1080 HD. Hope you enjoy it!

Oresund Bridge: More than just a connection between Sweden and Denmark

09:35
The Öresund is the shortest sea route between the North and the Baltic Seas. For centuries it was a bone of contention for many maritime nations. But not all ships can sail through it, because the shipping channel is only eight metres deep in some places. This means that heavy commercial ships and fully laden tankers have to navigate the twists and turns of the Great Belt. Denmark and Sweden have been connected by the Oresund Bridge for ten years. The result is that Copenhagen and Malmö have almost merged. Why Russia Fears Sweden’s Deadly Submarines

10:01
This video shows you that Why Russia Fears Sweden’s Deadly Submarines. Another important features is a special ‘multi-mission’ portal for deploying special forces and underwater vehicles, a much-in demand feature for contemporary submarines. Situated between the torpedo tubes in the nose, the portal can also be used to recover the AUV-6 underwater drone, which can be launched from the torpedo tubes. The A26 would typically belly down on the ocean floor when employing the portal—a maneuver which could also aid it in escaping detection. For decades, submarines came in two discrete flavors: traditional diesel-electric submarines that need to surface every day or two to recharge their noisy, air-breathing diesel engines, and nuke-powered submarines that could quietly hum along under the sea at relatively high speeds for months at a time thanks to their nuke reactors. The downside to the nuke-powered variety, of course, is that they cost many times the price of a comparable diesel submarines and require nuke propulsion technology, which may not be worth the trouble for a country only interested in defending its coastal waters. A diesel submarine may also run more quietly than a nuke submarine by turning off its engines and running on batteries—but only for a very short amount of time. Still, there remains a performance gap in stealth and endurance that many countries would like to bridge at an affordable price. One such country was Sweden, which happens to be in a busy neighborhood opposite to Russian naval bases on the Baltic Sea. Though Sweden is not a member of NATO, Moscow has made clear it might take measures to ‘eliminate the threat,’ as Putin put it, if Stockholm decides to join or support the alliance. After a Soviet Whiskey-class submarine ran aground just six miles away from a Swedish naval base in 1981, Swedish ships opened fire on suspected Soviet submarines on several occasions throughout the rest of the 1980s. More recently, Russia has run an exercise simulating a nuke attack on Sweden and likely infiltrated Swedish territorial waters with least one submarine in 2014. Back in the 1960s, Sweden had begun developing a modernized version of the Stirling engine, a closed-cycle heat conversion engine first developed in 1818. This was first used to power a car in the 1970s, then the Swedish ship-builder Kockums successfully retrofitted a Stirling engine to power a Swedish Navy A14 submarine Nacken in 1988. Because the Stirling burns diesel fuel using liquid oxygen stored in cryogenic tanks rather than an air-breathing engine, it can quietly cruise underwater at low speeds for weeks at a time without having to surface. MOST FEARED maneuver in the air from Sweden Jet Fighter | Cockpit View

10:41
A great video (Cockpit View) of the Swedish military Saab Gripen military aircraft maneuver in the air. The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. It is powered by the Volvo RM12 and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are modified for NATO interoperability standards and to undertake air to air refueling. In 1979, the Swedish government began development studies for an aircraft capable of fighter, attack and reconnaissance missions to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen. A new design from Saab was selected and developed as the JAS 39, first flying in 1988. Following two crashes during flight development and subsequent alterations to the aircraft's flight control software, the Gripen entered service with the Swedish Air Force in 1997. Upgraded variants, featuring more advanced avionics and adaptations for longer mission times, began coming service in 2003. To market the aircraft internationally, Saab formed partnerships and collaborative efforts with multiple overseas aerospace companies. One example of such efforts was Gripen International, a joint collaboration between Saab and BAE Systems built in 2001. Gripen International was responsible for marketing the aircraft, and was heavily involved in the successful export of the type to South Africa; the organization was later dissolved amidst allegations of bribery being employed to secure foreign interest and sales. On the export market, the Gripen has achieved moderate success in sales to nations in Central Europe, South Africa, and Southeast Asia; bribery has been suspected in some of these procurements, but authorities closed the investigation in 2009.[7] A further version designated Gripen JAS 39E/F is under development as of 2014; it has been referred to as Gripen NG or Super-JAS.[8] The changes include the adoption of a new powerplant, the General Electric F414G, an active electronically scanned array radar and significantly increased internal fuel capacity. Saab has proposed other derivatives, including a navalised Sea Gripen for carrier operations and an optionally manned aircraft for unmanned operations. Sweden and Brazil have ordered the Gripen E/F, and Switzerland initially selected it for procurement. As of 2013, more than 247 Gripens have been built.

Baltic Sea security - a shared priority for Sweden and NATO

04:07
Sweden has responded to a changing security situation in Europe by increasing its military spending, reintroducing conscription and hosting large-scale exercises. It has also stationed troops back on the strategically important Swedish island of Gotland, in the middle of the Baltic Sea, for the first time in more than a decade. While Sweden is not a NATO nation, NATO and Sweden have a strong partnership and actively work together in peace and security operations, and for both, providing security in the Baltic Sea region is a priority. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ SUBSCRIBE to this channel http://bit.ly/NATOsubscribe SUBSCRIBE to NATO News http://bit.ly/NATONewsSubscribe SUBSCRIBE to NATO History http://bit.ly/NATOHistorySubscribe Connect with NATO online: Visit the Official NATO Homepage: http://bit.ly/NATOhomepage Find NATO on FACEBOOK: http://bit.ly/NATOfacebook Follow @NATO on TWITTER: http://bit.ly/NATOtwitter Follow NATO on Instagram: http://bit.ly/NATOinstagram Find NATO on Google+: http://bit.ly/NATOgoogleplus Find NATO on LinkedIn: http://bit.ly/NATOlinkedin Find NATO on Flickr: http://bit.ly/NATOflickr

Hear the Otherworldly Sounds of Skating on Thin Ice | National Geographic

03:08
This small lake outside Stockholm, Sweden, emits otherworldly sounds as Mårten Ajne skates over its precariously thin, black ice. “Wild ice skating,” or “Nordic skating,” is both an art and a science. A skater seeks out the thinnest, most pristine black ice possible—both for its smoothness, and for its high-pitched, laser-like sounds. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Like a dome or arch, the support comes from the sides rather than the top, and the water underneath prevents the ice from breaking. But, experience and careful advance planning are key. Factors including temperature, atmospheric conditions, and even satellite images of the Earth’s surface are considered. It’s complicated, but appealing to mathematicians like Ajne. Even with preparation, there’s a risk of falling in… So it’s best done in groups, for safety. The 20-Year-Old With a Plan to Rid the Sea of Plastic

Subscribe to MOTHERBOARD: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-To-MOTHERBOARD Boyan Slat's story is not quite that of a 20-year-old Wunderkind who magically found a potential fix to a longstanding problem. It's perhaps more accurately described as a combination of personal dedication and trial and error. When going through his old prototypes for a technology that would passively scrub oceans of plastic, he's almost embarrassed of his early concepts. "But that's what science is really," Slat said. "It's a work in progress." The crowdfunding campaign behind Slat's Ocean Cleanup Project was announced with strong bidding, no matter: "With two million dollars we can make a theoretical concept come true." With just two days left in his campaign, Slat successfully collected the funding for his project, bringing him one step closer to realizing a vision of plastic-free oceans. It has two bedrooms in 506 sq ft. | www.facebook.com/SmallHouseBliss Looking at the floor plan, you’ll see that all the rooms are closed off from one another. An awesome trip to the outermost parts of Stockholm archipelago that 'had it all' ! (svenska turbeskrivning finns nedan) Nice surf conditions, warm water (no tides), excellent weather, sea eagles, a grey seal, herons, beautiful sunsets all in a beautiful archipelago setting. A 3 day tour which you can follow on the map linked below or on maps in the slide show linked below. Selected entry points into the movie Day 2 (when GoPro is first used) 0:15 Start of outer archipelago 5:00 Surfing over my friend's kayak 8:04 Reached Skarv archipelago (outer most archipelago) 9:15 Kayaking around Skarv's Bodskär island 15:10 Heading back towards Söderskärgården (sun + waves) 17:02 On Labbkobben island trying to get cellular coverage 17:42 Leave Söderskärgården & go north to Röder archipelago 18:32 Surf 19:14 Slow-motion kayaking in waves 19:49 Arrive to Röder's Storskär Day 3 20:16 Perfect sunny and calm morning! 21:14 Underwater slow-motion roll + Christophe's roll 22:58 Nice pools & rocks on northern end of Röder's Storskär 26:21 'Seal hunt' + dealing with coffee crave 28:27 Eastern Norrpada archipelago 32:08 Roll after reaching northern Norrpada (now filmed forward) 33:37 Reached viewpoint on Gummaskär island Battery runs out when leaving Norrpada 34:25 Credits NOTE: Day 3 music in credits should be: Procession (The City) by Vangelis + Mrs. Soffel (Film Music) by Mark Isham The following map (as long as it is available) is zoomable and provides different map types sea chart/satellite/normal-map. http://kartor.eniro.se/m/rapj4 Stockholm's skärgård ('skärgård' == archipelago) consists of 13 smaller archipelagos with more than 30000 islands in total! A slide show from the whole trip (also includes better pictures of the grey seal). http://youtu.be/DwLB-BU2RUE ===== Svensk turbeskrivning ===== En tuff och lång film om underbar tur till ytterskärgården som hade allt! Fina surf förhållanden, varmt i vattnet, bra väder, havsörn, hägrar, säl, soluppgång, vacker ytterskärgård...

My Swedish Heart, a road trip through southern Sweden

02:23
A girl remembers her summer love in southern Sweden. See our other films from Sweden - Skåne Summer Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii6YJv75vRY and West Sweden, My Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34-ZfB7AnCw From Malmö to Smögen her experiences of jumping in lakes, dancing till late, tasting oysters and celebrating life lead us to discover the beauty of the Skåne and West Sweden regions. Do you remember that feeling of falling in love? We’re all are own film directors, blending our memories together into a sweet film. West Sweden, Malmö, Gothenburg and Skåne are the perfect places to make your movie of memories. #visitsweden A Q&A with our travelling creatives; 1.       What was the highlight of your trip to Sweden?   The highlight of our trip was without a doubt he little town of Smögen.. With all its little coloured houses it just looks like the Sweden you imagine: a must!                  2.       What was the most unique thing you discovered during your trip to Sweden?   The pilane Sculpture park : to contemporate giant art installations in the middle of nature is something very unique. 3.       How would you describe Sweden in three words?    Beautiful, welcoming, laid back  4.       How would you describe the Swedish locals in three words? Casual, tolerant, fun 5.       What were your top three food experiences? Our unforgettable food experience was the oysters tasting at Everts Sjöbod...Even Paul Because said it was the best oysters on the planet!    6.       What was your best city experience(s)?   The city we liked the most was definitely Goteborg. It has a very friendly atmosphere, a beautiful botanical garden and there seems to be a lot going on there culturally speaking.  7.      What was your best experience(s) in nature?   The  cliffs of Hovs Hallar, it's a very dramatic spot and at sunset even better. 8.       Tell us about the accommodation in Sweden? The accommodations were well designed and very cosy. Hotels often have a hot tub included which is a great way to relax after a long day of exploring . 9.    What would you say to someone thinking about going to Sweden? Don’t plan too much, rent a car and hit the road!     10.    Would you go back to Sweden and, if so, what would you most look forward to? We would like to go back to Sweden to continue explore the country, specially the north part in Wintertime. Sea Kayaking Sweden - East Coast (Oskarshamn - Gryt) with 4k drone footage

31:04
This video is about our 4 day sea kayaking trip on Sweden's beautiful east coast from the city of Oskarshamn to the small town Gryt during August 7-11, 2018. It was a windy trip with winds up to 11 m/s and even stronger gusts. But luckily most of the winds were either tail winds or side winds so the kayak sailing and surfing was excellent! The trip took us through Misterhult, Tjust and Gryt archipelagos. The video contains some 4k drone (DJI Mavic Air) coverage from 3 different occasions and gives some bird's-eye views of the islands. I am only a drone newbie with only 1h fly time so far, so please excuse my not so perfect piloting ;-) Note: Mac users need to use Chrome to make 4k resolution available as Safari does not support 4k. The trip was totally 128 km (80 miles) long in 3.5 days i.e. 36.5km/day (23 miles/day). Our route, drone footage and camping spots can be seen here https://kartor.eniro.se/m/Vpg58. Note: You can pan, zoom in/out and change between map types satellite(flygfoto-hybrid)/map(karta)/sea-charts(sjökort). Sweden suspects Russian submarine is hiding in Baltic Sea. Russia says ‘no’

01:36
The Swedish military is continuing a search of the Baltic Sea in the archipelago near Stockholm after they were tipped off about suspicious activity in the region, Reuters reports. More than 200 military personnel are involved in the search, which includes Swedish Navy ships and helicopters. The forces include the HMS Visby, a corvette that is equipped with stealth technology and equipment for anti-submarine warfare, according to Reuters. Swedish military officials first intercepted a radio transmission on a frequency often used by the Russian Navy for emergencies from the archipelago area last week. More encrypted radio traffic was picked up after the search began last Friday, originating both from a point in the archipelago and Russia’s Kaliningrad region across the Baltic Sea, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal said. Rear Adm. Anders Grenstad of the Royal Swedish Navy said during a news conference on Sunday that Grenstad said foreign underwater activity could potentially be a submarine, a mini-submarine or divers with an underwater vehicle. Grenstad added that three credible observations had been made, two on Friday and one on Sunday. A picture taken from land released by the armed forces showed a white spot in the sea, but the photo was not clear enough to determine more about what it was. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. (You could win a cruise!) I’ve been nominated as favourite cruise blogger in the Wave awards and it would mean SO much to me if I could have your vote. (I run this blog in my spare time and work full time in a non-cruising industry so I feel extremely lucky to have been nominated at all). It only takes 30 seconds to do and you don’t have to fill in any of the other categories if you don’t want to. If I could vote for you as best cruise blog readers I would!! It means more to me than you could ever know! http://www.worldofcruising.co.uk/vote

Holland's Barriers to The Sea

44:21
The Delta Works in the Netherlands (Holland) is the largest flood protection project in the world. This project consists of a number of surge barriers, for examples: 1- The Oosterscheldekering is the largest of the 13 ambitious Delta Works series of dams and storm surge barriers and it is the largest surge barrier in the world, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) long. The dam is based on 65 concrete pillars with 62 steel doors, each 42 metres wide. It is designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. 2- The Maeslantkering is a storm barrier with two movable arms; when the arms are open the waterway remains an important shipping route however when the arms close a protective storm barrier is formed for the city of Rotterdam. Closing the arms of the barrier is a completely automated process done without human intervention. "Sweden" Minecraft Remix

Want to be featured in a video like our friends @SchmidtSource and @DaBigBadBooV? Hook yourself up with some NoteBlock swag https://rdbl.co/2OudGkF and send a pic to [email protected] or @NoteBlockRemix on Twitter! I've said it before and I'll say it again- despite the rep it's gotten in recent years, I love Minecraft! Before the rush of rip-offs and look-alikes, Minecraft was such a simply unique and fresh idea that I've ended up sinking way more hours into than probably any other game that I've ever played. Though it often goes overlooked, Minecraft has a fantastic soundtrack composed by C418! I compel you to just take a listen to it for awhile! Hope you guys enjoy! If you did, feel free to leave a like or subscribe to the channel! Before you ask, yes! You may use this in your videos! Just be sure to credit via a link to my channel or this video! Doom from the Sea! Let's Play Viking Sweden CK2 - Part 10

We go a little longer this time but we have really good reason for it all. Why you ask? Oh very simple. We have some raiding to do. A lot of raiding. So much raiding which happens to get a certain very important score up to ohh...lets say 50. Oh yes.
