Deep Sea Mysteries

11:59
The ocean is vast and full of things we as humans have yet to discover. Put on your scuba suits, this one’s one’s going to be quite the ride. Hopefully, strange noises, odd creatures, and mysterious structures don’t scare you. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5. Colossal Squid Remember that small vampire squid? Yeah, take that and then make it like a million times bigger. Okay, not a million, but from this picture of one dried up on the shore, you understand. No to be confused with the giant squid, the colossal squid differs in that their tentacles have little hooks on them. They’re similar in length, though colossal squid are said to be stouter and heavier. These rare and terrifying creatures are a result of a phenomenon that is known as abyssal gigantism, where invertebrates in the deep sea are much larger in size so as to adapt to the smaller portions of food sources. Colossal squid have been seen to grow up to 46 ft long, weighing up to 1,650 pounds. Also, their eyes are said to be the biggest in the whole of the animal kingdom, their eyeballs measuring up to 11 inches in diameter. 4. USS Saratoga Admittedly, this photo looks terrifying, though do not be alarmed too much by the sight of it. What you see before you is the anchor hawse hole that was once part of the USS Saratoga. This gigantic artifact was discovered in the Bikini Atoll in Micronesia, were many a seacraft have met their demise. The anchor hawse hole has been sunken in the water for so long that it was naturally taken over by the aquatic environment, turning into something that is initially unrecognizable. 3. Mariana Trench Mystery Shark Oh, so you thought that that great white shark cannibal was the most of your worries as far as sharks go? Well think again, because something even more mysterious than that 16 foot shark eating shark is the Mariana Trench Mystery Shark. Footage of this elusive shark was apparently captured by marine biologists from Japan. The footage was concluded to have been taken from Suruga Bay in Japan. To give you some context, here’s how an average person measures up to more common sharks. And that biggest one is the mystery shark. There’s even been speculation that this shark may in fact be a megalodon, a species that’s said to have been extinct for millions of years. 2. The Bloop It might not be the most epic or mysterious sounding of titles, but its nomenclature doesn’t make it any less intriguing once you hear what The Bloop is. In the year 1997, a bloop, or low frequency underwater sound was detected in the south Pacific Ocean by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The sound was said to be powerful, at and was at first likened to the sound icequakes that take place in icebergs make. About 5 years later, it was then said to be more similar to a marine animal--though this was again disputed and the ice theory was considered to be conclusive. But within the scramble to figure out what the sound was, there were people saying perhaps == was real after all. Underwater Waterfall This is definitely a real picture of a real place--not something out of a fantasy land. This is the underwater waterfall located in the Denmark Strait. It is the largest underwater waterfall in the world, and is also known as the Denmark Strait Cataract or the North Atlantic Circulation Pump. It can be found on the western side of the strait located in the Atlantic Ocean and is quite the sight to see indeed. It’s as if the earth was opened and is swallowing the surface world whole--which is a nice thought. The waterfall measures up to 11,500 ft deep and was formed due to varying temperatures between the eastern and western water masses. The flow rate is over 175 million cubic ft per second and is said to be the most voluminous water fall in the world.

What Lives At The BOTTOM Of The Mariana Trench?

11:45
Do you ever wonder what lives at the bottom of the mariana trench? This top 10 list of creepy deep sea monsters has some giant and bizarre creatures that are scary and mysterious! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "MYSTERIOUS Creatures Living At The BOTTOM Of The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/Efhjc-Gu508 Watch our "SECRETS Casinos DON'T Want You To Find Out!" video here: https://youtu.be/hAoABuvzOZM Watch our "RAREST And Most EXPENSIVE Cars In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/MtCnWSqqilg 10. Frilled Shark The frilled shark has been around a long, LONG time. They’re ‘living fossils’, thought to have been swimming around for anywhere between 95 and 300 million years! Also while they were first discovered in approx 1880 they weren’t actually described until 2004 (the same ROV mission as the barreleye fish). This is one predator that really knows how to keep its head down. It lives at a depth of over 5,000 ft (1524 m). 9. Hatchet Fish Okay so if you came face to face with this dude you’d get one hell of a shock right? Meet the deep sea hatchet fish, so called because of its metallic, hatchet-shaped appearance. It can be found 5,000 ft (1,524 m) down. The metal like quality comes from its scales which is just as well because if it weren’t so shiny you’d have trouble seeing it! 8. Seadevil Anglerfish You’ve probably seen this one in the movies. A seadevil anglerfish appeared in Finding Nemo and the image has been used in some high profile shows like The Simpsons. They were first described in 1864 and can live at a depth of over 6,000 feet (1900 m). Like many deep sea species its movements are mysterious to experts and the only one filmed alive was in 2014. 7. Telescope Octopus Some deep sea animals like to take it easy, I mean there’s a lot of pressure down there!! Maybe none more so than the telescope octopus. Living anywhere from 500 - 6,500 ft (150 - 2000 m) below the surface it’s really laid back. In fact that’s literally what it does… lie back and use its eyes to look up for any food swimming by. 6. Benthocodon Usually when you think of a jellyfish you think of a transparent wobbly thing that stings your foot. Well not this one. The benthocodon isn’t transparent. It has a round, red top which is 2 - 3 cm in diameter and it won’t sting you unless you run into it 2,500 ft (762 m) below the surface. You’d have to be pretty crazy to be at that depth and even crazier without any flippers! 5. Barreleye Fish This fish with a transparent head shocked viewers when it appeared on Blue Planet! Also known as a “spookfish” it has a jelly-like forehead that allows it to look up through its skull, giving it greater visibility! Pretty freaky huh? It is a very efficient hunter that can live at a depth of at least 2,600 feet (800 m) and can be anywhere from 15 to 40 cm long. 4. Goblin Shark This shark is one ugly shark, hence why we call it the goblin shark! Of course I wouldn’t say that to its face poor thing! But its sword-like snout and prehistoric appearance makes it truly unique. 3. Zombie Worm Zombie worms, also known as bone-eating worms, were discovered by accident in 2002 when they appeared to be drilling into the skeletons of dead animals like whales and fish. This confused experts because they looked too squishy to be able to drill like that, but that is how they got their name. The answer came later on in 2012. 2. Foraminifera Foraminifera or ‘fora’ are tiny organisms from the ‘protist’ family. They vary between 100 micrometers and around 20 cm. Because many of them are so small and I’m guessing chewy, they are a prime source of food in the Mariana Trench. That’s a shame because there’s a lot more to these little things than meets the eye. 1. Ping Pong Tree Sponge The strangest name on our list is also the nastiest! Sure, Ping Pong Tree Sponge sounds like something out of Spongebob Squarepants and it’s one beautiful-looking life form. But despite this charming exterior this isn’t a thing to be messed with! It lives nearly 9000 ft (2743 m) underwater and if you’re a small creature it spells bad news. Origins Explained is the place to be to find all the answers to your questions, from mysterious events and unsolved mysteries to everything there is to know about the world and its amazing animals!

Secrets of the Deep - Ancient Underwater Cities

30:21
Secrets of the Deep - Underwater Cities (Bimini Road and Yonaguni) It is the stuff of lore and legend. Cities swept into the sea. Civilizations lost beneath the waves. But are these more than just myths? Are there really sunken cities and ruins that need to be discovered? The Bimini Road, sometimes called the Bimini Wall, is an underwater rock formation near North Bimini island in the Bahamas. The Road consists of a 0.8 km (0.50 mi)-long northeast-southwest linear feature composed of roughly rectangular to subrectangular limestone blocks. Various claims have been made for this feature being either a wall, road, pier, breakwater, or other man-made structure. The Yonaguni Monument, also known as "Yonaguni (Island) Submarine Ruins" is a submerged rock formation off the coast of Yonaguni, the southernmost of the Ryukyu Islands, in Japan. Masaaki Kimura, Professor Emeritus from the Faculty of Science at the University of the Ryukyus claims that the formations are man-made stepped monoliths. His ideas are disputed and there is debate about whether the site is completely natural, a natural site that has been modified or a man-made artifact. Neither the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, nor the government of Okinawa Prefecture recognize the features as important cultural artifacts and neither government agency has carried out research or preservation work on the site. Deep Ocean: Lost World Of The Pacific Part 2 - David Attenborough Documentary HD

52:09
An underwater adventure in search of living fossils. The island of New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean sits on the equator, where immediately next to a richly-colored coral reef, a sharp underwater cliff drops down to 1,000 meters. A long-awaited exploration down the little known depths of this tropical sea is finally about to start. NHK has teamed up with eminent marine biologist Mark Erdmann, discoverer of the coelacanth in Indonesia. The spherical transparent submarine, which successfully captured the world’s first moving images of a giant squid in its natural habitat, is used as the team encounters true living fossil species one after another. During their last dive, in the darkest depths of caves in the deep-sea cliff, the crew encounters a huge, unknown exotic fish… Narrated by Sir David Attenborough. For this shoot, the submarine was equipped with a cutting-edge 4K camera, for pristine images. Join the film crew on an exciting adventure into a deep sea never before seen by humans, captured on six cameras shooting multi-angles, creating a breath-taking underwater documentary. Part 2: Lights in the Abyss The NHK team that captured the world’s first footage of a live giant squid in its natural habitat is setting out for another deep-sea adventure. They will give us a look at the amazing life forms with luminous bodies that have survived the harsh, pitch-dark deep sea environment of the Pacific.

The deep ocean is the final frontier on planet Earth

14:49
The ocean covers 70% of our planet. The deep-sea floor is a realm that is largely unexplored, but cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to go deeper than ever before. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.trib.al/rWl91R7 Beneath the waves is a mysterious world that takes up to 95% of Earth's living space. Only three people have ever reached the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean. The deep is a world without sunlight, of freezing temperatures, and immense pressure. It's remained largely unexplored until now. Cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to explore deeper than ever before. They are opening up a whole new world of potential benefits to humanity. The risks are great, but the rewards could be greater. From a vast wealth of resources to clues about the origins of life, the race is on to the final frontier The Okeanos Explorer, the American government state-of-the-art vessel, designed for every type of deep ocean exploration from discovering new species to investigating shipwrecks. On board, engineers and scientists come together to answer questions about the origins of life and human history. Today the Okeanos is on a mission to investigate the wreck of a World War one submarine. Engineer Bobby Moore is part of a team who has developed the technology for this type of mission. The “deep discover”, a remote operating vehicle is equipped with 20 powerful LED lights and designed to withstand the huge pressure four miles down. Equivalent to 50 jumbo jets stacked on top of a person While the crew of the Okeanos send robots to investigate the deep, some of their fellow scientists prefer a more hands-on approach. Doctor Greg stone is a world leading marine biologist with over 8,000 hours under the sea. He has been exploring the abyss in person for 30 years. The technology opening up the deep is also opening up opportunity. Not just to witness the diversity of life but to glimpse vast amounts of rare mineral resources. Some of the world's most valuable metals can be found deep under the waves. A discovery that has begun to pique the interest of the global mining industry. The boldest of mining companies are heading to the deep drawn by the allure of a new Gold Rush. But to exploit it they're also beating a path to another strange new world. In an industrial estate in the north of England, SMD is one of the world's leading manufacturers of remote underwater equipment. The industrial technology the company has developed has made mining possible several kilometers beneath the ocean surface. With an estimated 150 trillion dollars’ worth of gold alone, deep-sea mining has the potential to transform the global economy. With so much still to discover, mining in the deep ocean could have unknowable impact. It's not just life today that may need protecting; reaching the deep ocean might just allow researchers to answer some truly fundamental questions. Hydrothermal vents, hot springs on the ocean floor, are cracks in the Earth's crust. Some claim they could help scientists glimpse the origins of life itself. We might still be years away from unlocking the mysteries of the deep. Even with the latest technology, this kind of exploration is always challenging. As the crew of the Okeanos comes to terms with a scale of the challenge and the opportunity that lies beneath, what they and others discover could transform humanity's understanding of how to protect the ocean. It's the most hostile environment on earth, but the keys to our future may lie in the deep. Sea of Creepy Monsters - The Secrets of Nature

51:06
The Lembeh strait in the northern part of the Idonesian island of Sulawesi is a unique hotspot of marine biodiversity. Countless amazing creatures thrive in the underwater landscape surrounding Lembeh island. During four years a wildlife filmmaker couple spent many months in the region capturing hundreds of hours of behavior, lots of it never filmed before. Among other unique behavior the filmmakers were able to shoot an Anglerfish swallowing a Lionfish, a scene resembling Godzilla gulping down Dracula. Elegant seahorses, thumb-splitting Mantis shrimp, and deadly mini-octopuses are just some of the remarkable creatures traditional underwater films tend to overlook. As most of the underwater drama is hidden from plain sight only the groundbreaking macro photography in this film can reveal the awe and beauty of life in the Reef of Little Monsters.

Diet secrets of the deep and fathomous

03:24
Recent research efforts by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have advanced our understanding of the feeding relationships within open ocean food webs by carefully detailing who eats whom. Gathering this type of information is a necessary step towards conservation of ocean species and ecosystems. Studying the diets of deep-sea animals is a formidable challenge. The scientists analyzed 27-years of video footage collected by deep-diving, remotely operated submersibles. Results reveal a food web that is far more complex than previously known, with a dynamic assemblage of jellies, squids, fishes, worms, and crustaceans feeding on one another in a variety of permutations, to sustain life in the deep sea. Mermaid Secrets of the Deep - MERMAID SONG - S13E1 | Theekholms

This video debuts an original mermaid song written and performed by mermaid Lula (Lauren Carr Reed - insta link below) 😃Upon hearing the song, Radia, finds the two mermaids on the beach. Mermaids Océan, Lula, and Radia discuss the new strategy to stop climate change and pollution. Radia explains that there is nowhere to relocate to. Everywhere is being affected. It is time to stop swimming away from problems and take a stand! To take a stand and educate every living thing on the planet. Teach them that they must clean up the area they live in and figure out how to educate the humans that are responsible for the climate change. Thank you to Spencer Carr Reed for playing the guitar for Lauren to sing with. Mermaid Secrets of The Deep Full Season 12 - THE LITTLE MERMAID | Theekholms

More mermaid secrets are revealed in this epic little mermaid adventure. In full season 12, Radia is visited by merman Aquarius. She visits a healer and saves a few mermaids along the way. Radia is becoming more comfortable being the mermaid princess. Ultimately she realizes her purpose. She is to inspire all life to take responsibility for the health of the planet. Before becoming the mermaid princess, Radia tried to make a global healing potion that would "fix" the human pollution problem overnight. Now she knows that is not realistic. The real way to change humans behavior is by creating a movement! Educating all life, humans and non-humans to think globally and act locally will bring about the change needed to reverse pollution. Ocean Mapping Exploring the Secrets of the Deep

03:06
Dr. Larry Mayer is a professor at the University of New Hampshire and the director of the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at UNH. He recorded this Aquacast at the Aquarium on August 29, 2013. Over the past fifty years there have been remarkable advances in using sonar to map the seafloor and the water column. These advances combine sophisticated sonar technology with advanced visualization tools and are providing new perspectives of the seafloor. Transcript: Well we map the ocean for lots of reasons: for safety and navigation, so ships don't run aground; we map it to put cables in; we map it for sovereignty reasons, something called the Law of the Sea Treaty, which allows us to extend our sovereign rights of the sea floors' resources if the sea floor has certain shape characteristics. We map it to understand circulation, which ties into climate change distribution of heat, but most importantly, we map it because we don't know what's there and that's the way we explore. We explore through mapping. So how do we map the ocean? It's interesting. For thousands of years we did it just one way, and that was with a hunk of lead at the end of a rope. And then finally towards the end of the second World War, echosound was developed, but these early echosounders would put one little ping of sound that would spread widely over the bottom, bounce back and we'd have an idea of how deep it is. What's happened in the last twenty or thirty years though is a new type of mapping system called multi beam mapping systems have come along. And these are suddenly giving us nearly complete picture at high-resolution of the seafloor and it's really revolutionized the way we look at the seafloor. Since this revolution in technology going from the lead line measurements, the single measurements, the single beam echo sounder measurements, which were single measurements to this multi beam mapping where we have thousands of measurements coming back, this complete picture it's opened a new world of possibilities of interactive three dimensional visualization. And so now we can now display the seafloor in very natural and intuitive looking images that we could fly through and explore and really make sense to us. And that's another new innovation that's come along has been the concept of telepresence. The fact that vessels of exploration, and there are many of them out there now, are transmitting in real time the information they're collecting, including the mapping information to the internet, through the internet to centers around the nation and basically to anyone who has access to the internet. And so, everybody can share as the maps unfold and unscroll on the screen and see what's down there. My advice to young people who want to ocean explorers is don't give up the math, don't give up the physics, don't write that off. You may not use it every day now, but later it will come in very, very handy and it'll set you on a track to help you understand how the world works, and that's what exploration is all about. There's definitely a role for aquaria and all kinds of public forum. I have to tell you, as I walked on the streets of Long Beach today it sent a shiver down my spine to see the signs that said "Ocean Exploration." It was phenomenal. As we were here a few weeks ago for the ocean forum, the aquarium was just overflowing with people and to see all those young children in particularly interested, kind of restores my faith that we are doing this for a good cause.

Deep Sea Secrets: Dave Gallo at TEDxMidwest

15:57
"We've only explored 5-6% of the sea," Dave Gallo tells the teens of TEDxMidwest. He takes us on a deep sea adventure and shares the beauty and magnificence of life at the bottom of the ocean. But that life comes at a price and his hope is that we start to look at our planet differently so that we can begin adjusting our habits to heal it. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
