Back Story: The Blood Mage was once a very weak and untalented Mage living in a small village in the Summerset Isles. The Blood Mage was practically incapable of using Magic, and for an elf of any variety, it is highly unusual. His Destruction spells lacked force, his enchantments lacked durability, and his summoned creatures died within seconds of reanimation or summoning. His master shunned him, constantly saying that he would one day rid himself of such a troublesome apprentice... And son... Desperate for power, he sought knowledge of the strongest Destruction magics, the most powerful of summoned Daedra, and the most potent enchantments that could rend a man's heart from his chest with just its presence. Still, he tried and failed.. Seeing no possible means of truly becoming a Mage, he gave up on himself, and was certain that his life had been wasted. His father disowned him, leaving him homeless and without family. His mother dead during childbirth, and his only sister drowned when she was but 20... He was alone, cold, tired, hungry, and most of all unloved... He sought to end his pain, all of his suffering, and stood upon the highest cliff he could find, overhanging a rocky descent and pit. As he was about to cast himself into the gorge, he heard whispers. Turning his head, he found himself face to face with 3 master vampires. Smiling with malice in their eyes, one began casting the infectious absorption spell known to all vampires. As he felt his life being stolen away, Carothriel began to feel a surge of magic in his body. Without thinking, flames erupted from his hands, laying bare his adversaries, slaughtering the vampires with an almost practiced ease. As he stood over their burnt corpses now disintegrating into ash, he passed out. Upon awakening, he found himself still on the precipice he had been standing before. As he stood, blood began to drop from his nose, and he began to cough it up as well. The magic was still there, but it cost him his lifeblood to use it. Still taking pride in his newfound power, he tore through the woods, traveling for 3 days with no food or water, hunger gnawing at his insides... Arriving home, he banged as hard as his exhausted body could on the front door, to see his father's scowling face. His father spoke. "I believe I was fairly clear when I told you to leave. Begone, lest I call the guards to come arrest y--" he was cut short as Carothriel's eyes began to gleam, and he lashed out towards his father's exposed throat. Draining him dry, he felt his thirst and hunger dissipate, and the sun suddenly seemed less harsh... And then he realized what he'd done... Killing off the last of his family left Carothriel alone... He had no home now... He began to take up odd jobs to support himself, never staying in one place too long, leaving when he could. However, one job went slightly awry. A delivery from a cargo ship he'd boarded was blown off course, taking them from Morrowind to the northern half of Skyrim. The ship ran aground, and bandits seized the opportunity hours later. Luckily, Carothriel was already long gone. Taking off into the woods, he ran for what felt like days straight, until he ran into the imperial ambush at Darkwater Crossing, and was taken to Helgen.
