How to Value a Product

06:38
Value investing works because you purchase shares in a company at a great value. Same can be applied to your everyday life so that you buy the items that are more valuable to you. One must however watch out for inflated valuation that one might perceive. And one could also be astute enough to reduce the perceived value of an item through understanding and generally not caring about brand names and apparent value created by marketing. If exercised properly, this method of purchasing items can take you very far in reducing your expenditures. Project to Product: How Value Stream Networks Will Transform IT & Business - Mik Kersten

31:18
DOES18 Las Vegas — Based on his work with Fortune 100 enterprises, Dr. Mik Kersten presents a new concept, the Flow Framework, which unravels the enigma of enterprise software delivery, providing an approach that helps organizations better understand the human and system dynamic that underpins their IT infrastructure. How Value Stream Networks Will Transform IT & Business Mik Kersten, CEO, Tasktop (His new book, Project to Product, is now available here: http://bit.ly/ProjectProduct) Dr. Mik Kersten spent a decade creating open source developer tools before realizing that programing was not the bottleneck of large-scale software delivery. Since that time, he has been working on creating a model and tools for connecting the end-to-end software value stream. Prior to founding Tasktop, Mik created the Eclipse Mylyn open source project as part of his PhD in Computer Science, pioneering the integration of development tools with the delivery pipeline. As a research scientist at Xerox PARC, Mik implemented the first aspect-oriented programming tools for AspectJ. Mik is the CEO of Tasktop and loves working with IT and thought leaders on transforming how software is built. "Evan: For instance, scarf as a product but its brand name "OVOW" is new in the market. Would competing price consider the best strategy? Selling too cheap would make the product appear invaluable and too expensive appear unattractive. Add value: It is a social cause product which the company would donate $1 to support providing Hepatitis B Vaccinations to poor children every time customer buy it. Thank you for your advice. Karona"

Value analysis in a nutshell

03:04
What exactly is Value Analysis? What are the core elements of this methodology? And why has this approach been so successful for 70 years? How do you proceed within such a value analysis project? What are the tasks of a Professional in Value Management (PVM)? This short explanatory video gives a first overview of the topic using the example of a construction project. The methodology Value Analysis is an organized and creative approach that applies a function- and cost-oriented design process with the aim of increasing the value of the value analysis object. It is characterized by: • Functional orientation (basic idea: The customer does not want the object but its function / effect) • Value concept (How can I increase the value of an object? How can I realize functions at the best price?) • Holistic approach (integration of all stakeholders) • Interdisciplinary teamwork (integration of employees from product development, production, sales, purchasing ...) with space for creativity • Structured, step-by-step approach (according to the value analysis work plan described in the guideline VDI 2800) and • Application neutrality, which means that the methodology can be used independently of the industry, from the phase of the project (from the concept phase to the existing product) and from the considered object (product, process, service). How these core elements, responsible for the success of the methodology, are working together, is shown vividly. In 1947 Value Analysis has been developed in the USA by Lawrence D. Miles. The Technical Division Value Management / Value Analysis at the VDI has been the leading organization for the application, support and further development Value Analysis / Value Management in the German-speaking world since 1967. It also plays a leading role in the international community. Add Value. Never Discount Your Products.

08:46
For ways to add value and create buzz download my free PDF at http://www.jordanarandolph.com/blog/never-discount-your-products-heres-why/ It can be hard to stay positive when products aren’t selling, you haven’t hit your sales goal for the month and it seems no one is paying attention to your business. The solution many businesses deploy is slashing prices and throwing a sale. Sales generate buzz, create urgency to motivate customers to buy and make some big numbers appear in your bank account. Those short term gains are certainly attractive, but the long term effects of sales can be damaging to your brand and business. In this video, I’ll share with you why sales and discounting can damage your brand and what to do instead. Medical packaging experts Nick Packet and Kevin Grum recently presented at MD&M East 2018 in New York City. Their discussion focused on the life cycle of a product and how packaging can bring value to the product life cycle and reduce the total cost of a product. Nick and Kevin shared examples of how Tyvek® 40L can impact a product's life cycle value. They focused on breathability of substrates and how this feature can impact everything from design to end use, but they specifically focused on the pack-out, sterilization and distribution steps of the life cycle. In this video, see a client who was new to Scrum deal with estimating "Business Value" for the first time. See at the end how the Product Owner can order the backlog by ROI, which is awesome. Adam Cogan has more on the background on his blog: "One thing that is practically universal in our industry is that we let Product Owners get away with far too much. Product Owners are typically extremely busy and I believe that most dysfunction that happens in Scrum teams comes down to the Product Owner. Letting a Product Owner skip estimating the "Business Value" does *not* make developers work better together. Remember, 'what is trust?'" Creating Value = Making Money with Eben Pagan

10:36
Get your FREE program from Eben: http://ebenpagan.com/special-offers/61d9lfuyft/ Very few things actually make money. Most of the things that people do, most of the activities inside of a business to make money don't work. There are only a few things in business that make money and these are the things that create value. For many years I've been asking myself the question, what is value? I would say that this question has led me to more money making opportunities than probably just about anything else I thought of. If you looked up value in the economic sense, what you would find is a word that economists call utility. Utility, or utility value, is the value that someone expects to get from getting something or using something. Or the satisfaction that they will get from it. The emotional satisfaction of getting something, or using something, or having a problem solved. Utility and utility value are important to think about. The reason that this is so important is because this leads the mind to find those opportunities where we could create value and make money. It turns out that value is a process. It's a process called valuing. We humans have a predictable process that we go through when valuing things. If I have a problem, as it gets more urgent and as it gets bigger, the value of solving it goes up. There are points in our lives where we have big pain and urgency, or a big fear and frustration, or a big desire and want. When those emotions are at their highest, whether it be in a fear, in a problem, or whether it be an aspiration and a want, that's when a solution, or a product, or service that solves our problem or gives us what we want, has the most value. Because that's when we're going through the process inside of ourselves as seeing the problem getting bigger and bigger, or experiencing it getting bigger and bigger. Value goes up as our need goes up, as the urgency for something goes up, as our emotional fear, or emotional desire goes up. The most value is created in a business when a problem, or pain is solved, especially if there is urgency involved. Problem and pain, these are where most of the money is made. When you add urgency, it dramatically increases your probability of this particular area of value being a good money making opportunity. Products and services that take away problems and pain create a lot of value. One example might be pest control. If you find a bunch of bugs in your bedroom. You have a high emotional need there. When you have the person come over and they say, I can get rid of these bugs, it almost doesn't matter how much it costs to get rid of the bugs. The marketing and selling of products and services is a very high value activity in business as this is what generates customers. What we have got on this particular slide in this particular area, is essentially two different areas of value creation. One is products and services and the other is marketing and selling. It really comes down to products and marketing. Creating products and services that take away problems and pain. Delivering desires is another area where you could create value. Then marketing and selling of these products and services. Guess what I try to invest most of my time doing inside of my business? Creating products and services that take away problems and pain and create a lot of value, and the marketing and the selling of those products and services. Guess what I try to not do, and I try to outsource to others. All of the accounting, the administrative work, the tracking, and much of the other busy work that goes into running a business. Because I know that if I can invest my time on only those things that create the most value, I'm going to have been doing the things that will have created the most money in the long run. Since business is a game of creating value and money, I want to be doing the highest leverage thing. At this point, what most people ask is what do I do? Give me the template. Or they say something like, well, I don't really like to sell, so give me something else. I just want to say you really need to take this information right here to heart. Creating products and services and then creating the marketing and the selling that sells them, this is all that is important in business. This is eighty percent of the game, and if you are not doing both of these things, if you're not creating high value products and services, and you are not doing the marketing and selling of those products and services, you are going to create maybe one percent, or five percent, or maybe ten percent if you are lucky, of the money that you could possibly create. It is very important that you create a lot of value if you want to create money. It is very important that you work on your products and services, creating high value products and services, and then work on the marketing and selling of those products and services if you want there to be money in the bank at the end of the day.

Sales Tip: Crack the Code on Building Value from Products and Services

02:21
http://www.blitzmasters.com Welcome to another episode of Coffee Coaching with Andrea Sittig-Rolf, CEO of BlitzMasters and creator of the Blitz Experience. Your selling value versus your selling price is the age old question for many sales professionals. The key to success in building value from your products and services lies in asking the right questions at the beginning of the sales process to gather the information that points to the decision-making criteria of your prospects. By asking open ended questions, you allow your prospect to do the talking and tell you what his or her hot button issues are. As an example, think of a prospect who mentions that he went through a lot of pain with a previous company. If he later shoots down your deal for being too expensive, you can remind him of the painful process of working with a cheaper company. Plus, once you build the value of your product or service by sharing success stories of previous clients, price may no longer be a factor. Once you build value, you can show that your company can be preferable over competitors. Thanks for watching and be sure to check out our other episodes of Coffee Coaching.

Tony Robbins: Increase Your Value ( Tony Robbins Inspiration )

34:06
Are you a recent graduate looking for ways to be successful in your career (or mid-career, looking for a boost)? Try thinking of yourself as a product and find ways to ‘upgrade’ yourself every year. Even if you’re still paying off your college loans, there are creative and cost effective ways to continuously learn and grow. Think of yourself as a product. That’s right! View yourself as a competitive product with features, benefits, assets and liabilities -- all waiting to be improved upon year over year, carefully differentiating yourself from others and creating your personal brand. Companies spend time every year listening to their customers’ needs and then they work on upgrading and improving their products. Why? So they can sell more of their products and services in the marketplace. You can use this business process of continual product improvement to make yourself more valuable as an employee as you progress through your career. Determine how you can 'upgrade' yourself. Improvement doesn’t have to be expensive. For example, what would happen if you picked one topic each year? Let’s say you have a new job and you want to be able to take on new and challenging projects, so you choose the topic of project management. Then, let’s say you went to the library and each month or so you checked out (or downloaded) and read a different book about project management. How much of an expert on the topic of project management could you become after one year and reading six or more books? If you started this practice now, of picking one subject per year and reading books on that topic, just think about how many subjects you could learn about and become an expert in over the next 10 – 20 years. It’s truly amazing when you think about how such a small change like this could have such a huge impact on your career and your life.

Measuring GDP: Output and Value-added Approach

04:37
Transcript: 1 Looking at the Circular Flow of Income, 1 We see that stuff just gets transformed in different stages. 1 Firms use factors of production from households, 1 Perform some magic, 1 And Tada! You get goods and services 1 These are sold back to households. 1 Households pay for these stuff too, 1 Which reflects the value of these goods. 2 So this arrow, the National Expenditure, 3 And this arrow, the National Output. 4 Should be roughly equivalent. 5 Because when firms sell goods to households, 6 It's just goods transformed into money 7 Hey, where does all this money on spending come from? 8 It comes from income made by the households. 9 So this arrow, the national income, 10 also equals to national expenditure. 11 We see that National Income = National Expenditure = National Output. They are just in different stages of the Circular Flow of Income. 12 So how do we measure GDP? 13 We can measure the total output, the total final goods and services. 14 Why only final goods and services? 15 Take the production of sandwiches for example. 16 First, we need labor 17 to harvest wheat, 18 then wheat goes into the production of flour. 19 Flour goes into the production of bread, 20 And bread goes into the production of sandwiches. 21 We then sell the sandwich at $5. 22 Tada! GDP equals to $5. 23 This $5 already includes the value of labor, flour, wheat and bread 24 that went into the production of sandwich. 24 We don't have to add these things again. 25 See, if you add the value of these things, 25 On top of the sandwich, (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 ) 26 It's $15, way higher than $5. 27 Because you've double-counted, and it's wrong. 28 Alternatively, we can use the value-added approach 28 We measure the additional value that is created in every stage of production. We start from zero. Labor doesn't require any other input. So labor itself is pure value. Using this labor, we grow wheat. Wheat is sold at $2. What is the additional value created? Remember we got to minus the cost of production which is labor. So $2 - $1 = $1 $1 of additional value created. Using wheat, we make flour. Flour is sold at $3. What is the additional value created? We got to minus the cost of production which is wheat. $3 - $2 = $1 $1 of additional value created. Do the same for the rest Bread adds value to flour. And sandwich adds value to bread. Add up all the additional value created by each stage of production, We get $5 as well. Wow! 29 You see, Output approach and value-added approach are quite similar. 29 In value-added approach, you add up all the additional value 30 Which is just the value of the final output. 31 Hey, that's not the only way to measure GDP… 31 If you like this video, remember to like and subscribe. 32 Next up: measuring GDP: Expenditure and Income Approach. _____________________________________________________ How do we measure the size of the economy? We can calculate the total output produced. Why do we only count FINAL goods and services towards gross domestic product (GDP)? What's double-counting? What is the difference between intermediate goods and final goods? Important definitions: Gross Domestic Product or GDP is the total value of all final goods and services produced within the borders of a country during a given period. Use flashcards to remember these definitions: http://www.memrise.com/course/461808/economics-101/

The Value Simulation Game by Todd Little

01:02:00
In this highly engaging workshop attendees will experience estimating, planning and delivering a new product and product features. The uncertainty in value and costs will be resolved through rolling dice based on the stories that the team selects and prioritizes. The teams will run through 3 iterations of story cost, value estimation, and product feature delivery. Points will be scored for delivering product features and meeting release and iteration commitments. Dealing with uncertainty is one of the largest challenges that teams face. The simulation aims to have levels of uncertainty in value and delivery that are commensurate with those found in software development. Some of the key tools for dealing with uncertainty are integrated into the simulation. In particular, the simulation covers these 4 areas: Value of Information Value of Flexibility Cost of Delay Value of Uncertainty Attendees will come away with a better understanding of the challenges of working with uncertainty in software projects, and will learn some of the tools that are at their disposal for managing this uncertainty.
