In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino from http://www.iamalpham.com, http://www.aaronmarino.com and http://www.peteandpedro.com talks about 7 men 's style and fashion brands that are over-priced (in his opinion). You work way to hard to waste your money on overpriced items and clothing. Alpha gives his opinion about seven clothing brands that are over-priced, over-rated, a waste of money, and the quality does not equal the price.
Alpha's 'Don't Waste Your Money' List
1. Jos A. Bank - nothing in that joint is worth the price you'll pay
2. Men's Warehouse - the quality is sub-par quality and the style is 'eh'
3. Armani - single most overpriced brand due to the nosedive in quality (note: Alpha loves Suitsupply)
4. Diesel - they make pretty much everything, but each costs a small fortune to buy
5. Lacoste - you'll be spending a lot for a little alligator
6. Ralph Lauren Polo - paying a lot for a little pony
7. Abercrombie - it's the Banana Republic of pricing for young people's clothing; it's a cheaper option but the same quality as Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostale. H&M, Zara, and Forever 21 have cheap quality clothing that's affordable (look stylish without spending a ton of money).
Jos. A Bank is only worthwhile when the clothing is on clearance. I bought a pair of Bostonian Amon wing tips today for 25.00 after using 50.00 in points. Bought their clearance sweaters for $30.00, which is about all their worth.
Hollister is sooooo over priced, and there t shirts are really thin, but there nice asf, and hollister, American eagle, Aeropostale, and some under armour is like the 4 only brands for tops that I wear. Get ur fruit of the loom buying ass outta my house.
Pre London hit list of bad quality well I washed a pre London hoody to descovered it was runied the white lint mixed with the black lint absolutely annoyed couldn't refuned so binned it I recommed bee inspired if going brands worth it price tbh I think they are too cheep for the price in my opinion fabrics are decent
The one time I went into a Men's Warehouse about twenty years ago I found a Louis Roth Blazer at a great price. I still wear it today, it is a beautiful jacket and is almost on a par with Oxxford Clothes. In fact, they were called the Oxxford of the west coast for many years.
The bottom of the knot (on your tie) is too tooo thin >> not Nice. Many americans do it like that. It should be normal, not thin. Make a research on it ( Google images)
Europeans don't tight it like that.
Nope, it makes you look like an insecure show-off, as well as giving the impression that you're irresponsible with your money. Plus that it doesn't matter if you wear an expensive brand if you live in a dump and have made no influence. Mark Zuckerberg for example is a multi-billionaire, but he doesn't need to wear overpriced brands to be viewed as rich and successful. Same with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates
The problem with cheaper brands is that they employ thousands of children from east ask to work long hours in terrible conditions in order to keep the prices low. Cheap clothes also have a horrible effect on environment.
You shouldn't think that at all. Even as a teenager, my branded items didn't leave any impression at all, while my "ordinary" items were often given compliments. Most people focus on what item you're wearing, not the brand.
There's also the opposite effect that wearing branded items will make other people think you're fake rich, insecure, irresponsible with your money, and generally trying way too hard
It's weird I'm wearing an Abercrombie shirt right now, but I came here to say you aren't paying for the material your payongfor the brand name on that piece of clothing, I don't get it people buy stuff like that so they can flex on others I bought my shirt for 74.99$ + tax bringing that shirt up to about 80.00$ it's worth it the quality is good it's just the fact of the brand name on it, look up Abercrombie Cologne it's about 90.00$ that's more than Gucci cologne! WTF
I have a bunch of Lacoste. (Including a tennis racquet worth around $1000). My mom has a bunch of Lacoste bags that has never broken. (Bought 10+ years ago). I love the quality of my bag and sweatshirt, shirt, and polos, as well as my City Sneakers.
I agree with all of these except Lacoste. I used to work at Saks in Boston and Armani is extremely overpriced. So is Hugo Boss I mean $1,000 for a fused suit is absurd. As for Lacoste I only buy their polos. I've had several for over ten years and they still look great.
Most people don't agree but IMHO the Polo and Lacoste criticism was spot on. The quality is decent, but they do absolutely nothing style or design wise to justify the cost. No question, you are paying for that logo. That was a regular sweat shirt with an alligator on it. $155? lol. You can't tell me the quality of a sweatshirt justifies that kind of price. I've had regular Nike sweatshirts that seem damn near indestructible for less than half the price.
Executive at a real estate development company.
Not going to wear any of my Canali suits to a construction site.
Jos A. Bank crushes it for "throwaway" suites you can look presentable in and not worry.
But Most of these have good quality. *Example* Lacoste has good quality shirts. ALSO Abercrombie has really good quality material too. I’m wearing a jumper from there now. I have coat too and more. It’s really good. Also Forever 21 and Hollister and stuff are really good too. ALSO Gucci, Channel and Canada Goose are too expensive. BUT the quality of Canada Goose is NOT that good. My mum got a coat from there ranging about £600 because of the real fur. The zip is really badly placed and has been stitched on wrong so you can’t open it all the way and the fur has been coming out through little holes. Too overpriced.
Any fashionable man knows that you focus on style rather than brand. I've made a huge impression with an overcoat for only $125 and a watch for just $37, as well as a cardigan bought at a thrift store for about $11.
Not to mention that during a summer party, I wore a short-sleeved shirt with a t-shirt underneath that were bought at Jack&Jones, chino shorts from GAP, aviators for just $4, and a watch for $50. The first thing I heard was "Look at him! He must be so loaded"
Yeah, greedy and selfish businesses who rob middle-class people of their money. I also already mentioned that when items reach a certain price point, then it's not a matter of quality anymore, but markups and production costs.
Why is that a positive thing? You'll just rip people off of their money just so they can wear a dumb logo on a product that's objectively nothing better than what you can buy for half the price. That's literally a scam!
Plus that items like trenchcoats, leather boots, blazers, watches, top coats, suits, and suede jackets from even cheap brands leave much more of an impact on the general public than a t-shirt, jumper, or hoodie from Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Diesel, and Armani simply because of what items they are (I know that from personal experiences).
That can work, but there are also a lot of brands that are affordable and still have good enough quality like GAP, Express, Banana Republic, and Jack&Jones. I even bought a suit from Zara since I'm not the guy who exactly wears a suit 4-5 times a week, and before that I bought a pin stripe Oxford shirt that lasted for over 6 years. I also still own a white woolen turtleneck that has lasted for over 7 years without any noticeable changes.
