For me I `m really shocked, how much talent and hard scrupulous work is wasted in these suicide, killing and disgusting finghting scenes... I understand, it is a money job to work on the purchased criminal program to grow up next assassins from our own human children, but how much better and greater could be to see really beautiful, balanced and spiritually oriented art of this guy!

Time and time again I keep hearing about artists being forced out of art school for not conforming to the madness that has overcome the academic system. It only reaffirms my thoughts, after our lectures on the feelings behind smashing pine cones with a hammer and fingerpainting nonsense.

I have never thought how magic opens the world for such amazing art, even though I have always loved the artwork of the game. I mean, nowadays we have photography, so portraits are not so relevant as they were before. But then we add this fantasy themes and there are whole new situations and people to paint that are impossible to catch with a camera.

I played that game once....I loved those drawings...but didn't know who did that... thanks for this video

I didn't realize the video was literally about THE MAGIC card game until the actual cards came out... But cool video nevertheless. I'm a Warhammer 40k fan myself and I hope you have a video about it in your channel.

Great analysis of what makes Kopinskis artstyle so good. Cards like Elvish Archdruid, Chord of Calling or Krenko really speak to me and i often find my self using/liking cards that Karl Kopinski has done the art for ^^ Cards like Bloodchinrager, War Flare or Mardu Heartpiercer just illustrate the nature of the Mardu so well

6:21 just a little FYI, with Mongolian you probably mean Mongolian elite cavalry Keshik who fought horseback with arrows. Seconds later you mention them as Ottoman Turks, however, those two empires are not the same and probably no real relation exists other than racial origins. As far as I know, there is no cavalry unit of the ottomans using a bow and a horse. Ottoman elite cavalry was Sipahi's and all depictions I could find indicate they primarily used spears. Although neither units probably used an armor like depicted by Kopinski I also think this is mostly reminiscent of Mongol Keshiks because of the bow design and the background.

Fascinating, glad I stumbled across this.

”And this piece? Is digital.” Yeah good eye can see that believe me. Even in work of this artist you can see what work is digital. There is reason Why people still paint in traditional oils. Thought I like both I think Oil painting can’t be replicated as digital. I would call it digital oil because that’s how it looks like.

M:TGA should really consider adding animations to their cards. Breathing even more life into magics card and help to grasp the complexity of the moment. Bringing to life that snapshot in the midst of war, and giving it flavour. If not for all cards, at least planes walkers or legendary creatures. Perhaps animation takes away from the thing that makes magic's art so unique, but in my eyes it's a way of enhancing an already amazing product.

I know you posted this a year ago so maybe your opinion has changed, but do you still think Spectrum 22 is the best that has been released thus far? I'd very much like to buy a copy unless you or other users see it differently.

Really love these videos. I like magic for it's strategy and from the perspective of a game, but what truly makes me love it is the world-building. The lore, the flavor text, and the top notch artwork has a place close to my heart.

This was a really cool video. Art, history, and magic. Very well put together. The editing style is really cool. The way you transition through the art is really creative. As an editing junkie I absolutely love this video. This is really good stuff man.
Haydyn Jones (1 year ago)
Would you do a video on Raymond Swanland? I fell in love with his work for novels, and was delighted when I discovered he did magic cards as well. However, I know you've noted on the similarities between his style and that of other MtG artists in the past. What is your opinion of old Swannie?
Rhystic Studies (1 year ago)
he is on the list.
Guilherme Almeida (1 year ago)
Amazing series. I've watched all of the episodes several times and learned alot. As an aspiring artist myself, the analysis you do in this videos is an inspiration in and on itself. Excelent job and thank you very much for doing it.

FYI, Dragonlord Atarka is traditional with the exception of some dragons in the background added later.
Rhystic Studies (1 year ago)
thanks for the heads up! I was misinformed. Spectrum has it listed as a digital piece, but this makes sense why, and that seems to be Karl's workflow too (as mentioned in the video with Krenko).
Captain Strangiato (1 year ago)
Sweet video as usual! I would love to see a video about Mark Tedin's art. My favorite classic magic artist.
