Almost everything is tied to databases. Learn them. I wish I would've known that a long time ago.

Is sql same as mysql
epicwhat001 (1 month ago)
MySQL is a version of SQL defined by a company. Microsoft has their own sql version called sql server and so does Oracle.

I’ve been in IT for a while and have been dabbling with databases. I’m just not sure is I should do the MCSE SQL 2016 Developer or the SQL 2016 Administrator course? If anyone has some advice please let me know :)

That is the best advice I've been looking for but did not know who to ask..TY. I am in the same position. You're right. My heart isn't and never has been on the Developer side.. But like many of us, we see so many Developer positions opening up and we Network guys feel a little left out at times...This video has restored my faith in my passion & IT Skillset. THANKX!!!

Do both networking and Sql , and you will be even more valuable as a jr network engineer, or linux network engineer.
Nick Leeds (3 months ago)
But you need very very specific experience. How does one get one of these Jr network engineer job if they aren't in their 20s with a degree from MIT or Caltech

Glad you made it! I've been studying SQL for a year and have been hoping to get into BI work and I don't have a degree, and have no desire to get back into school! LOL

SQL dev jobs generally pay more than software development alone, but you're putting yourself in a precarious position specialising solely in one form of technology like that. A better option would be to expand in to business intelligence, data warehousing, big data and data analytics.
Keytron Quabius (25 days ago)
How can you end up analyzing trends and stuff? Or if you have a propensity to analyze and like to make propaganda. Or just anything narrarive driven. I've seen people that do this before , it's just hard to explain exactly what they're doing
Acaminero New York (7 months ago)
Really, SQL developers are hard to find.?
2LegHumanist (1 year ago)
PowerLeef It has it's place but will never replace relational databases for most business database applications which don't have the scalability concerns solved by by hadoop and map reduce.
PowerLeef (1 year ago)
2LegHumanist What do you think of the No-Sql movement?
2LegHumanist (1 year ago)
I know that, I've been a software developer with strong SQL for 20 years. Nothing I said suggests you can't do both. But a SQL developer does not do both and that's the role we're talking about here. It was only about 15 years ago that colleges started churning out developers who couldn't write a sql query to save their lives. it used to be that every developer could do database design and development. Now because the industry is full of SQL-illiterates, SQL development is a valuable and sought-after skill and SQL developers are hard to find.

Who the f*ck in their right mind want to become SQL developer? This is VERY specific and narrow specialization. What he means is DBA(architect/administrator).

before you start bashing BI, you do know that almost 80% of what a data scientist does is data prep, actually, it could be more depending on the situation. All the hard work and complex algorithms have for the most part already been created for you to use in sklearn or R. You just need to understand the models, but please you don't need a PHD in stats or math to do data science. The really smart people are either in academics or working on some crazy project for google or facebook which is not the norm.
2LegHumanist (1 year ago)
Joe JG Fallacy of the undistributed middle. Cake can't exist without flour, that doesn't mean flour is cake. And no, it doesn't depend where you work. Data science is a much higher level field than business intelligence. If you go into it without a solid grasp of statistics, machine learning and business, you're a fake data scientist regardless of the title bestowed on you.
PowerLeef (1 year ago)
What IS interesting is that understanding relational data and databases can net you jobs in areas that you might not expect. I've seen need for people with data skills to assist in projects in chemistry, wildlife biology, education research assistant.
Joe JG (1 year ago)
it depends where you work. Data science can't exist with shit or unreliable data so there has to be a partnership between the two. I've seen the two exist in the same department in some companies but it depends. Normally there is a strong partnership between the two.
2LegHumanist (1 year ago)
Joe JG BI is business intelligence and it does not cover data science.
